I'm currently a developer for Paizo's organized play department, formerly of the editing department, and have done some writing for books like the Pathfinder Second Edition Gamemastery Guide, Lost Omens Gods & Magic, and the upcoming Advanced Player's Guide.

Whoops, buried the lede a bit there!

Hmm... I'm not a greaaaat cook by any means but I tend to want to do something and then add that to the repertoire? Like there was one summer we barbecued a lot and I learned a bunch of marinades, I wanted to do Hawaiian food for Thanksgiving last year so I learned how to do kalua pig, haupia, etc. Right now me and my roommate are trading off weeks where we give each other recipes to try out, so I just had to figure out how to use the immersion blender ^_^. I'm also trying to learn some Korean recipes lately, but still working on it >.<

Have you seen Tiger King?

(un)fortunately, yes, I watched it the release weekend. It may have led to a sequence of events where my roommate would sometimes remote-play Joe Exotic music on the wi-fi-connected speakers in the middle of the day. Loudly. Without warning.

Have you played Maneater?

It'll help with that.

How do you get past staring at a blank page or character sheet for days trying to get an idea into something coherent enough to use?

To be honest? I don't--I find it really hard to turn the tap on command. But! I definitely jot down notes in my phone if something comes to me, so when it's time to make a new character, I usually can go through it for past ideas to pick up or riff on, like "Oh warpriest of Pharasma with a glaive and tassel and when she flourishes the glaive it makes Pharasma's spiral, I remember that idea let's go with that!"

Basically when I DO have an idea, I write it down cuz I know they don't always show up when I want them ^_^'

Since we're all currently WFH, do you miss my occasional visits to your desk to creepily loom over your cubicle wall and stare at you until you acknowledge me?

Not as much as when you do it from outside his living room window.

Especially since I live on the fifth floor щ(゜ロ゜щ)

I will say that Cosmo's looming way always a nice way to punctuate an afternoon, and a good incentive to line the top of the cubicle with more plushies and figurines so there would be no place to loom.

Just finished "He Mele A Hilo" by Ryka Aoki.

Amazing book about hula, Hilo, Hi'iaka, Lohiau, identity, belonging, fitting in, and who is Hawai'ian enough.

I loved the dialogue and the characters. Plot? A bit nebulous.

Well worth the time it takes to track it down and read it.

What parts of the lore would you say you specialize in?

Whoops! After the con finished last year, I didn't come back here in a bit!

I'm not familiar with this, but Amazoom says it's magical realism, which I usually like ^_^

Hmm... it's a little hard to say. Honestly, I don't think I'm as great of a lore archivarius as some of my colleagues, in that I don't know the ins and outs of every AP or PFS season and such. I've worked on a lot of Tian Xia stuff lately so I feel like I'm kind of getting more knowledgeable about that (and there's a lot less of it in print to keep straight!).

I think as far as lore goes, I'd say I really enjoying trying to translate lore to mechanics. Like if I'm writing up a monster and the lore said something like "Monster, covered with its moonlight-drinking quills", I might try to give it a darkness aura or something--that sort of thing!

The Concordance

Hi, James. I have a question on PF1 rules.
I already know when Empower Spell + Maximize Spell, they calculated separating.
I want to know the interaction between Intensify Spell and the above two.
A CL 15 caster casts a Intensified, Maximize Fireball, the damage will be (1)15d6=90 or (2)10d6=60+5d6 ?
And the same question when goes to Intensify Spell + Empower Spell, do they calculated separating?

Which of the islands in eastern Okaiyo Ocean (pictured on the Golarion world map from CRB) does Taiwalei hail from (assuming those islands are depicted)? After hearing about this character in the Pathfinder Society Guide, I've been excited to learn more about his home region.

What existed first on Golarion, tengu or worship/fearful veneration of the Duke of Thunder (Hei Feng)?

Hi James! Just reminder here: When paizo officially posts hidden file or K.H.W's full name?
