Can (should) gauntlets with +1 or greater runes add this item bonus to skill actions such as grapple, shove, disarm, trip? Other weapons with the appropriate trait gets to add this modifier to their rolls and while gauntlets and unarmed attacks (for the case of hand wraps) do not specifically have these traits (grapple, disarm, etc.) you do need to have at least one free hand to perform these “attack” actions (unless your weapon has these traits with the exception of gauntlets as they have the free hand trait).
Your thoughts?

Without the "Trait" unfortunatly I would say no. This is why certin martal arts stances in monk give traits to their UA attacks. If you somehow gave the Trip or grapple trait to your gauntlets then yes.
Curses, your literal logic helps my case not one bit! But while your sneaking about, how about gauntlets and dueling parry?
Free hand trait reads “... When you’re not wielding anything and not otherwise using the hand, you can use abilities that require you to have a hand free as well as those that require you to be wielding a weapon in that hand...” Core Rule Book, p. 283.

Normally I'd agree with everyone else here, but I remember seeing some developer commentary back when the game was new talking about allowing people to Trip with unarmed attacks.
The notable language is that the trip property works 'even if you don't have a free hand', while someone wielding a gauntlet or fighting unarmed is simultaneously wielding a weapon while still having a free hand, bypassing the normal limitation that the Trip property is required to circumvent.

But would we get the item bonus to trip, etc. for magical gauntlets?

From my interpretation, if you want a bonus to the athletics attacks, you need to use the handwraps. All of those maneuvers are unarmed attacks, after all.
As a houserule, I'd say it's pretty reasonable to let gauntlet runes boost them though, but, again, thats houserule land
The thing is, some unarmed strikes specifically have traits like Grapple or trip, which implies normal unarmed strikes don't get the trait.

They don't. Which means Handwraps and the like don't apply their bonuses (you need an actual Athletics item for that). The Grapple trait or the like makes the Handwraps work sans Athletics item.
