Avoiding attacks

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Ok so I’m looking for ways to completely negate attacks. I know of the feat Deflect Arrows. I found a spell, the name escapes me at the moment, that allows you to instantaneously turn insubstantial, but it only gives DR 10/magic which is lame. I know Crane Style used to allow you to negate melee attacks but got errataed. Is there anything else that I’m missing? Thanks in advance.

The spell I couldn’t think of was Windy Escape, it also negates sneak attack, critical, and poison. So if you know one of those is coming I guess it could be situationally useful. Also just found Bleed for your Master, throws your familiar into the path of the attack in order for you to take no damage, kinda messed up but it “Negates” an attack against you.

Mobile Stronghold - Any attack

Requires an opposed roll (not automatic):
Smash From the Air - Basically all ranged attacks
Snake Style - Any attack

Hum, I don’t know how I missed Snake style. That is potentially useful.

Ether Step. Windy Escape is a Sylph racial spell.

Really Swashbuckler Parry and other parry mechanics in general do this well.

Various contingency spells/effects are made for this. Readying an action can have a similar effect.

There's other ways of avoiding 2nd & later attacks in a full attack. the swashbuckler deed dodging panache can do this if you have somewhere out of reach to dodge to, or spell storing armor + the frigid touch spell can render enemies staggered (no save), or the frightful aspect spell can render enemies frightened (no save, again).

Liberty's Edge

Parry, mirror image, blur, displacement, cloak of displacement, projected image.

It all depends on what class you have and way you want to avoid the attack.
You want to avoid the effects that trigger when you are hit?
The damage?

Do those.

Then get yourself the Armor/Shield/Dex combo that gives you the most plusses.

Get a Protector Familiar, which protects you with Shield Other (1/2 the Damage goes to your Familiar instead.)

Get DR and Fast Healing for you and your Familiar.

If you are thinking Snake Style, you should also look at Crane Style feats.

One of my favorite tricks is to come up with a way to see while Blind, then open up an Eversmoking Bottle.

Honestly I was hoping for something like deflect arrow, where when I’m told I’ve been hit I can say “No I’m not.” The way Crane Style used to be before errata.

But I haven’t heard of/investigated some of these other options that people are saying so I’m going to investigate them as well.
