Looking for a fun Goblin build for PFS play

Advice

Grand Lodge

Local lodge is starting PFS 2e support, and I'm wanting to play a goblin...but I don't know what class to go...none of the core classes are really speaking to me.

I do know that I don't want to play it a comic relief. I played the Fumbus pregen the other day, and wasn't terribly impressed with the Alchemist.

Any suggestions for a decent and fun build suitable for a goblin?

Rogue with Dogslicer is a classic, simple, effective and with a good weapon.

Dragon Instinct for angry goblin, Burn it with a fire dragon is fitting and you could use Horsechopper weapon as well if you wish.

I think the Titan Instinct Barbarian is really fun with a small character. Nothing's as intimidating/hilarious as a small goblin with a large weapon.

Get the quick jump feat with martial disciple (atheletics) background and just use the long jump action (now it only costs one) to leap around instead of Striding. Plus if you go legendarey acrobatics at lvl 15 you pick up Cloud Jump and can leap a reliable 75 per leap.

Sidenote may be incorrect about the 75ft. Not sure if they feat breaks the normal limit for long jump.

The Dex/Cha boosts of the Goblin do support a Bard as an option, which don't have to be comic relief if you don't want them to.

An Enigma Muse can allow you access to Bardic Lore, which lets you make Recall Knowledge checks on everything. You think your smart? This Goblin went to Bard College. Polymath Muse meanwhile can get Versatile Performance, letting you use Performance in place of Diplomacy, Deception, and Intimidation for certain actions. You could always do both later.

The mix of full Spellcasting, skilling options (Eclectic Skill lets you add your level to all untrained skills), and some fantastic Composition Cantrips (Allegro is a Cantrip Haste, definitely worth grabbing), you can be quite the asset to the team in and out of the battle.

You don't have to be a singing or instrument Bard either. You could Act out a scene, use Oration to tell stories, Dance your way across the battlefield, it's up to you.

Honestly considering something along these lines for my first character.

Bard has never really been my thing...mechanically they are a fine class...I just never could get into them thematically.

I was thinking about maybe doing one of the divine spell list Sorcerer bloodlines, mix a bit of healing with a bit of damage/utility. Maybe the undead bloodline, focusing on Heal and Harm, with other spells for utility and protection?

Rogue has always been my old standby...if nothing else calls out to me, I'll probably just fall back on that.

Goblin Song race feat is a ton of fun. Well looks like it.

Just a note. Fumbus isn't a great example of an alchemist I think. I personally think anyway. but alchemist are a bit rough lv 1-3 or 5 IMO as well. But pretty amusing after.

Grand Lodge

I like the alchemist thematically, but I think I am going to hold off on playing one until I see where they go with poisons in the future. I would love to finally be able to play a poison focused character, but they just aren't quite there in the core book alone...lose out on action economy, etc. Poisons are way better than in 1e so far, but targets getting multiple save attempts against them, and having to re-apply poisons after every hit, make them weaker than other options currently.

Goblin song is 100% not for me...I will never play a goblin as a singing comical character, just not my style.

Silver Crusade

Want to avoid comic relief? Goblin Paladin!!! Or maybe a neutral good Redeemer of Pharasma with the Shining Oath (against undead).

Or, using the exact same race and class, Goblin Champion of Cayden Cailean, and we're back in comic relief territory.

I know you said bards aren't your thing, but I may consider one. Goblin songs are a Pathfinder tradition, so a singing goblin bard just seems very thematic, and works well with their racial stats.

I'm having tons of fun with my own 2nd-level goblin rogue, Breadcrumbs.

Not sure if he is PFS legal though, as I made him for a home game.

Goblin Bard may fit 100% within the established lore, and be a perfect fit for their stat boosts...but I think it is stupid, and would never play a character like that. If that is your thing though, have fun with it.

I kinda like the champion concept...but I don't really like the Champion class.

Maybe I'll go with a Pharasma worshipping, Undead Bloodline Sorcerer...he died during or shortly after birth, but Pharasma sent him back since it wasn't his time. The brush with death left him with a strange connection to the forces of life and death...and a much calmer, more grim, and more rational personality than his Goblin kin.

I didn't really see goblin song as comical myself. More threatening lyrical threats. Either like Vash the STampede's total slaughter song. Or Frolo's hellfire. Or just a Kirk style threaten monolog about hor you're going to murder them in ways unbecoming sentient creatures.

My half goblin (via the half -races rules) uses it, but he typically has a weird lyrical string about how he's going to use them to test two new alchemical formula t see which is stronger. (and once it was vash the stampede)

Granted I guess that semi goes against hte "Silly and repetitive" fluff of the feat.
So maybe that doesn't work for PFS and you can't do something more interesting with it.

Sorcerer was actually going to be my next suggestion. There's synergy with the racial charisma bonus, and you can play it as serious as you want.

I'm still not sure what I think of the champion class. I always liked paladins before, but this new version is so completely different that I'm not sure what to think of it, mechanically. Fluff-wise, I really like the idea of non-LG champions of deities we couldn't do before, like the redeemer of Pharasma or liberator of Cayden I suggested earlier.

Also, with charisma being much less important to paladins than in 1e, and it being easier to make up for racial attribute flaws, I realized that a dwarven paladin of Torag is finally a realistic possibility. It's also interesting to note that your type of champion depends on character alignment, not deity alignment. So for instance, Sarenrae and Shelyn can have all three of paladins, redeemers, and liberators, depending on the alignments of their followers who choose to be champions.

Goblin sorcerer works well. Draconic bloodline-red or gold-can get burn it as your first ancestry feat and charhide heritage for a very thematic start.

Undead sounds super flavorful. I know I'd be creeped out by a half undead goblin.

I think I'm settled on Undead Sorcerer, the only downside is it doesn't look like I will have a solid ranged attack cantrip to fall back on when I run out of spell slots. Divine Lance doesn't work for a Pharasman, and being limited to a melee cantrip could be dangerous.

I just need to go through and figure out the fine details of the build now...background, feats, skills, etc.

At first, it would probably be best to start off by using those Sorcerer simple weapon proficiencies, and use a Crossbow or a Sling. Later on, you could get Adopted Ancestry with a General Feat and then nab the Human Adapted Cantrip feat to nab a more magical ranged option like Produce Flame or Telekinetic Projectile.

Grand Lodge

Just realized, I could always use the 'Reach Spell' metamagic feat on Chill Touch. That can work for my fall back spell when I am out of resources.

STR based Ruffian Rogue with horsechopper, intimidation and trip schtick should work well and can be played sufficiently grim that you don't need to be the comic relief.

Horsechopper is arguably one of the better weapons for the Ruffian. And both stats and Goblin class abilities work nicely for rogues.

Goblin sorcerer is what I'm currently toying with. The Cha and Dex boosts are nice, and I like the idea of an Aberrant goblin with tentacles and teeth spewing out all over the place. Or a Diabolic goblin who seduces people with promises of power while also getting a little bonus to fire spells
