Effect of Quality and Potency on Item Level

Magic Items

How is potency meant to interact when it comes to a groups starting items.
+2 Armor of Expert Quality is a 7th level item in it's entirety even though it's a combination of a 7th level potency and a 2nd level quality, but what if the player wants to have +2 Armor of Master Quality. Both the +2 Potency and the Master Quality are 7th level items, but they are better than the default +2 Armour so would they have to be treated as two separate 7th level items even though they are a single item and the qualities only benefit in the situation is +1 (max 0) ACP?

You could use two separate 7th level slots, or as I've been considering allowing my players to do in future adventures, you could add up the prices of quality materials and potency and use one slot of the item level that has permanent items of around that price.

Pg. 370, Runes

The level of an item with runes etched on it is equal to the highest level among the base item and all runes etched on it; therefore, a +1 mace (4th level) with a disrupting rune (5th level) would be a 5th-level item.

So a +2 Master Slick Glamered Armor only counts as a single 7th level item.

...for the purpose of dispelling, smashing DC, and everything else that depends on item level (not much for now).

For the purpose of trasures, you will need to buy the +1 mace (a 4th level item) and the disrupting rune (a 5th level item) separately.

There was a discussion on this a while ago, it sounded cool until we had clarification.

Can I get a link to this? My group has been having so much trouble with this, we house-ruled it to keep the math neat because the rules are kinda vague.

It's easy.

For the playtest, you pick items from the list. If there is a +2 Master Slick Glamered armor on the list, go for it. Otherwise, you pick the armor that IS on the list and use additional picks to get additional runes that are on the list.

For non-playtest use, do whatever your GM wants to allow.

Couldn't you add all the prices together and figure out what level it is that way?
