What is the Hardness of Armors?

General Discussion

I need to know the hardness of all Armors (long story short, I want to show that information on the FRONT worksheet so users don't have to flip pages to find it)

I see that page 354 has a table for materials, but I am not sure about some armors. Here is what I have so far... Does this sounds good? How about Padded Armors or Hide armors?

▬▌Light Armor▐▬
Padded Armor --> ??
Leather --> 4
Studded Leather --> 4
Chain Shirt --> 9
▬▌Medium Armor▐▬
Hide --> ??
Scale Mail --> 9
Chain Mail --> 9
Breastplate --> 9
▬▌Heavy Armor▐▬
Splint mail --> 9
Half Plate --> 9
Full Plate --> 9

THANKS for your feebback!

Padded seems like Cloth to me, so 2 for that. As for Hide, I'd say leather is the closest, though if it were me I'd bump it up to 5 or maybe 6 for the extra thickness/toughness of the material, but by RAW, the closest I think would be leather.

That being said, I think going purely off the hardness value of a material is a bit dubious, even if by RAW that's what you do, but since we know that thickness plays into the hardness of an object, given the different values for thin items, items, and structures, it seems odd to me that a chain shirt is just as hard as full plate.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Indeed - I just wished the Hardness was included in the Armor table (well, and in all other places it would need to be!) - it would simplify things and reduce Page Hopping and guessing values...

Thanks for your input!

Considering that a heavy metal shield is hardness 5, you should half those values. Plate armor isn't thicker then a shield.

Is that your estimate of what it should be, or did you see this in the rules?

I am attempting to implement the rules, which forces me to know these little details...!
