Kresham Gull |

Kresham tries to comfort the poor man. "Try not to dwell on your loss too much. There is still future ahead. Your village will be avenged. After all, the taller they are, the harder they fall."
To Wren, he replies:
"If there is really a horde of giants, they would quickly outnumber us out in the open. We need a chokepoint to hold them off, and walls of Sandpoint provide good protection. But maybe we could try sneaking up on their camp while they rest and try to quickly take a few out before they notice? I am not sure how viable this would be with the dragon guarding them. Do the dragons even sleep at all, I wonder?"
Knowledge Arcana: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15

Skarn Hornfels |

"If we killed the dragon and a few others, that would surely aid our cause. Most armies are less effective when they are headless. One assumes this Teraktinus is the leader. Killing that one might be the most mortal blow we could deal this army." Skarn thinks for a moment, "we definitely should have that teleport ready though, to get away if things look like we will be overwhelmed."

Garrosh Saurfang |

DM_Mathpro, what do we know about the military/security forces in Sandpoint - is there anything more than a militia or a few guards?
;)

DM Mathpro |
THe man smiles weakly at Kresham "thank you...its just my entire family...well honestly I ran before I knew they were ALL slaughtered...so maybe there is some hope..." His eyes then look over at Skarn. "Umm...I'm not really sure what type of giants they were...the damage did most of the damage to town truth be told...but there were about a dozen of them...didn't really stick around to get a head count."
As far as Sandpoints military capabilities you guys are by far the majority of it. They have a militia but there "farmers with pitchforks" to quote The Patriot. Every other time that Sandpoint got into a major scrape they would call on Magnimar for help.

Wren Chavali |

"So, are we heading out to meet them now, and falling back, or do we wait here for them to bring the battle to us? We could get overwhelmed against that many giants and a dragon, but if we wait, that number might be too much for us to repel without losing the town."

Garrosh Saurfang |

"Agreed - if we do have a chance to strike strategically and retreat efficiently, this is what we should do" - the half orc nods, then turns to the man with a heavy semblance - "I am truly sorry about your loss - if there are any survivors, we will do our best to get them back to safety"

Garrosh Saurfang |

"We should wake the mayor" - Garrosh snarls - "Didn't I ask for some sugared water?!" - he looks around for a servant or someone similar.

DM Mathpro |
A servent comes in with some sugar water and hands it to Garrosh who then carefully pours it in the Mayors mouth. She slowly comes to. Wha...what..." she mumbles and then sits bolt straigt up on the couch "What is going on here...oh right...sorry walking up to that lovely face Garrosh...its a little jarring. I do appologize." her eyes scan the room and she looks at the man covered in blood. "Who's he?"

Skarn Hornfels |

Skarn looks at the mayor, "him? Oh, he is a refugee. You'll need to find him some housing." He turns to the man, "there, so that's handled," and then back to the mayor, "we four are going to go out and try and head off this invasion, or at least thin its ranks. We hope to be back in a few days. If we don't make it back, you should know that we appreciated the statue."

Garrosh Saurfang |

"His village was destroyed by a horde of giants, not far from here" - the half-orc adds, turning to the man - "My apologies, for I have not asked your name, nor that of your village - I am Garrosh" - he offers.

Wren Chavali |

Wren doesn't take time to exchange niceties with the man. She had a new mission and wasting time here wasn't going to help those still alive. She was ready to head out now.

DM Mathpro |
"I was from a small town about 5 days from here...the name of it was Ravenmoore"[/b] "If you want to meet them they should be in Galduria in a day. Should be about 7-8 days out from Sandpoint." Thankfully I was able to get here quickly. My name is Peven by the way. Mrs. Mayor I would like to request aslym with in your walls please...my family is gone so there is nothing for me to go home to but heart break." The mayor grants his request and then asks if there is anything else that you need her for. If not she will get him settled in.

Skarn Hornfels |

"I shan't trouble you with trivialities Madam Mayor, but I don't suppose there is a bit of that excellent tobacco that I like so much about? The name always escapes me, but you know the stuff."
7-8 days? Didn't he say 5 before? Are we retconning this, or is he confused? I'm ready to head on if everyone else is.

Garrosh Saurfang |

Good to go, but also confused about the 5 vs. 7-8 days ;)

Wren Chavali |

"I can teleport us out tomorrow. I can also switch my spells, so I can have an emergency teleport, so we can pop right out after we deal with a few of them."

Garrosh Saurfang |

"Exactly" - Garrosh adds - "What do we know about red dragons?"

Garrosh Saurfang |

"Not much is what you mean then" - Garrosh chuckles.

Wren Chavali |

Know. Nature 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21
Wren tries to recall everything she had heard about red dragons, separating the legends from the facts.

DM Mathpro |
You guys would know that depending on the age of the dragon the abilities would change but all red dragons have a fire breath weapon and are pretty leathal if you get into mele with them. In a full round they get 6 attacks(bite, two wings, two claws, and a tail). Once they reach adulthood they also have some aura's to worry about as well as DR and SR. As far as spells go you don't really need to worry about anything harmful until they reach adulthood.
The night passes slowly as you all eagerly await the next days events. You wake quickly and gather together at the Rusty Dragon for a quick meal before you head out. No one is there to bother you and you are able to get in, eat, and get out in about an hour. As you eat the weight of the day consumes you all and there is very little conversation. The meal ends and the realization of the task at hand dawns on you all and a knot forms in your stomachs and you wonder if breakfast is going to stay in.
Role-play any last minute preparations if you want and then when ready Wren can teleport you directly to Galduria. You all are pretty sure that is where they were headed and hope your not to late.

Wren Chavali |

Wren spell changes for today:
5th level--Two Teleports, and no Overland Flight.
3rd level--Fly memorized and Aqueous Orb is not memorized.
Proposed buffs before teleporting:
Mage Armor and Shield on Wren (making current AC 22),
Mirror Image on Wren (making 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 images),
Invisibility and Fly on Wren,
Haste and Communal Protection from Energy (Fire) on the group,
and finally, GMW and Heroism on whomever request them.

Skarn Hornfels |

I recommend waiting on the rounds and minutes per level buff spells.
"You know, lumpy they may be, but the mattresses here are still superior to sleeping out under the stars."
I'm ready!

Garrosh Saurfang |

"There is something to be said about sleeping under the open sky though" - Garrosh pipes in - "But these are definitely lumpy"
Casting Extended Magic Vestment.

DM Mathpro |
Skarn, Wren, Garrosh after you leave Sandpoint you are instantly dropped into a very bloody battle going on in Galduria. There are giants everywhere and the northern part of the city is burning and you soon see the young red dragon that is responsible. As you get your barrings you are able to to see two people who are fighting a stone giant for their life.
Boran and Nadezdha you are currently locked in battle with a stone giant and having little success when you see 3 people instantly appear and they jump in to help you.
Need your actions for the first round. The giant is not flat footed because Nadezdha and Boran have been fighting it for a few rounds now. They've managed to stave off any damage but haven't really harmed the giant to much either. If you do not help Boran and Nadezdha thats fine but let me know what else you are doing.

Boran |

Adjusting his grip on the guisarme, Boran moves from a defensive stance to an offensive one, "You an' your ladz shoulda stayed up in the hills....what the hell'll you gonna get out of raiding Galduria?" he shouts up at the giant before slashing and jabbing the big bastard.

Skarn Hornfels |

Skarn gives a grin, "ahhh, combat, and against giants no less!"
He commences his Judgement of Justice (+3 to hit with +6 to confirm crits) and his Judgement of Destruction (+4 damage) as a swift action.
He then casts lend judgement and lends the Judgement of Justice with him. "Better to hit more often, than to hit slightly better, my friend. Now go get them!"
With that, Skarn hefts his heavy pick and moves in to combat. I only move 20', and no idea how far the giants are from us.

Wren Chavali |

Wren casts her Persistent Confusion spell on the red dragon. After casting the spell, she looked for something to duck behind as her Invisibility spell went away. Met here were still seven copies of her present, but she didn't want the dragon to focus entirely on her either.
Two DC 23 Will saves to avoid the effects of the spell.
[ooc]DM, I say all the spells in my prep were cast except Haste and GMW as no one spoke up to claim them.

Taket |

I hope its ok that I post. I assume I am around somewhere too.
A tall "tribal" man with braids and tattoos rounds a corner and moves to attack a stone giant. His armor gleams is if polished fine silver as he moves. He seems to loose his temper as he closes with the creature and swings a large grey metal hammer at it.

A young lady with feathered wings(!) hovers 3 feet in the air before the giant. She's dressed in flowing white robes of translucent silk. She draws a white bow and lets fly a hail of shocking arrows.

Garrosh Saurfang |

Garrosh nods in thanks at Skarn, then casts a spell of his own, bolstering the power of his weapon - "We fight the giants!" - the half orc retorts before he even registers who he is talking with - "Are you a fairy then?!" - he follows up.
Casting Greater Magic Weapon.
Echoing Skarn's thoughts - not really certain of the distances.

Skarn Hornfels |

So that judgement will last Garrosh 11 rounds, 10 now. I interpreted we were right near some Giants, and thus we were going into combat. Is it the case that we're not right near some bad guys?

![]() |

lol, nice one. Nadi laughs. Why? Gotta thing for fairies, Orc?

DM Mathpro |
Round 1 Wrap up
Boran strikes the giant right in the leg and opens up an artery with his swing, coating the warrior in blood. Because of the spay of blood his other two attacks miss. Garrosh you cast your spell. Wren casts her spell and she feels the dragon resist it at first but then the spell takes hold. Skarn you start your judgements and move to engage the giant. Next round you will be able to take a full action against the giant. The dragon, seeing the party materialize will breath fire down on everyone attacking the giant, and the giant itself. Skarn, Boran, and the Giant are unable to move out of the way of the breath weapon and take the full brunt of the flames but thanks to Wren's prot energy spell cast in sandpoint before you left Skarn you are unharmed. The giant and Boran take 34 damage. Nadezdha and Taket both dodge to the side and are only mildly singed by the breath weapon and take 17 damage each. Garrosh and Wren you are still under the effects of protection from energy and take no damage from the breath weapon. Taket you swing your blade through the giant and it drops lifeless to the ground, singed and bleeding. Wren you feel your spell take hold and the dragon is now confused. Nadezdha seeing that the giant is down and the dragon just swooped down at the party you let lose your arrows at the dragon. Three of them lodge deep into the creatures hide.
Very good round guys! You took down a giant in less than one round...very impressive. There are other giants pillaging the town that you guys can move and attack next round. There is one with in 30 feet of you so those interested in mele can start working on a giant. Those of you who want to target the dragon can do so as well.

Taket |

Taket has some minor fire resistance and takes 2 less from the breath. He also has a feat called Dreadful Carnage - If you reduce an enemy to 0 or fewer HP, you can make an intimidate check to demoralize
all enemies within 30' as a free action. Not sure if the dragon is close enough but at least one giant is. :)
As the giant falls to the ground Taket bellows in rage.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (9) + 16 = 25
You can use this skill to cause opponents to become shaken for a number of rounds. This shaken condition doesn’t stack with other shaken conditions to make an affected creature frightened. The DC of this check is equal to 10 + the target’s Hit Dice + the target’s Wisdom modifier.
Success: If you are successful, the target is shaken for one round. This duration increases by 1 round for every 5 by which you beat the DC. You can only threaten an opponent this way if it is within 30 feet and can clearly see and hear you. Using demoralize on the same creature only extends the duration; it does not create a stronger fear condition.
Fail: The opponent is not shaken.

Taket |

Taket, still raging and heedless of any plan, charges the closed giant.
Power Attack Furious Focus Vital Strike: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (9) + 22 = 314d6 + 25 + 2d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 6, 6) + 25 + (2, 4) = 55
Vicious damage to Taket: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Edit - four sixes? That was nice!

Skarn Hornfels |

Nadedzha has a dragon to deal with now right? Shooting arrows into a confused dragon, so now it's all after Nad?
I'm guessing the dragon is not in a place where I can melee it, so I will charge the same giant Taket has. While moving, I will swift action make my weapon giant-bane. Power Attacking, and this is "big Game" and a giant.
+2 Heavy Pick Hit: 1d20 + 14 + 2 + 3 + 2 - 3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 14 + 2 + 3 + 2 - 3 + 1 + 1 = 22

If that hits, it releases the searing light into the giant, that damage is figured in.
My AC right now is 30 vs Giants.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Slight retcon if that is ok DM Mathpro - I forgot I had bought a magical whip :P Will cast Divine Favor instead.
"From my father's side of the family, I hear they are good baked over a hot fire - don't think it would agree with my delicate palate though" - Garrosh snarls back with a smile - "And that's half" - he finishes, wading in on the closest giant.
Once he is one step behind and to the left of Skarn, his whip lashes out at the giant they are facing, attempting to bring the massive creature down.
Going for a Trip attempt.
Trip: 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (7) + 29 = 36
If he falls, I get an AoO due to Greater Trip:
Whip, 2H: 1d20 + 8 + 5 + 3 + 3 + 1 + 3 + 1 + 4 - 3 ⇒ (4) + 8 + 5 + 3 + 3 + 1 + 3 + 1 + 4 - 3 = 29 +4 is from Paired opportunists if it applies.
Damage if it hits: 1d10 + 21 ⇒ (9) + 21 = 30
