Is this D&D 5th edition?

General Discussion

This is almost a carbon copy of D&D 5th edition sprinkled with a generous helping of Mutants and Masterminds.
By this point its obvious I have some grievances.
The races, classes and backgrounds are entirely based off d&d 5th. It feels so boxed in and forced. (Not to mention the "Lore"'s that were mentioned. Circus Lore and Entertainment Lore are separate things when Entertainment could easily cover circus'. And Scouting Lore?? Not everything needs its own specific Lore that utterly narrows down what you know.)
Now the Ability Boots and Flaw. The problem is in what i just wrote. Ability BoostS and Flaw...A singular flaw with a rediculous amount of boosts. As well as the note saying that you don't get anything for having flaws and that you'll fall behind with your party if you have too many. True enough being entirely flawed ends up being useless. But having nothing but bonuses to almost every ability just waters down the fun immensly. I know you kids who rolled 4 18's on your character sheet at home and can fight, sneak, knowledge and diplomat your way through anything with a single character are ecstatic. I don't know. Maybe its just me but playing the "Jack of all trades and Master of all" is just boring. There's no challenge anymore as every enemy falls before you and your armor has nary a scratch on it.

And a last bit to my rant. Death. You ruined dying to D&D 5th edition levels. There's no point in worrying if your character will bleed out when no matter how much damage they take (as long as its not double yor hp) they're just dropped the the dying steps.

This post is unique and insightful.

OP is completely wrong... this is a carbon copy of D&D 4th edition.
Items levels... check.
Monster levels ... check.
Bonus of your level on every roll... check.

at least the actions you can do are not divided in "encounter" and "daily"... yet.

Dark Archive

Eh character creation in PF2e reminds me much more of Modiphius' 2d20 system than 5e

Wrong its a Carbon copy of 1st edition D&D. Its got most of the same classes and monsters, you even roll a d20 to hit! The rogue is just the thief renamed.

You guys are all wrong, it's a carbon copy of Dungeon World. You roll dice and go on adventures! It's exactly the same, it's really super disappointing...

No way, this is totally a FATAL system ripoff!!!

Liberty's Edge

Did someone say Gamma World?

Thought I saw, Alpha and Omega tech somewhere...

As much as the jokes are hilarious, this does seem to be a genuine issue some people have and... I don't understand it.

The main thing that differentiates 5e from Pathfinder is the amount of options you have. 5e seems simple but restrictive, while Pathfinder could be considered complex but bloated. Obviously both systems have exceptions; the Warlock and to a greater extent the Unearthed Arcana Mystic have genuine choices, but those are very much exceptions to the rule.

PF2 seems to be very much more like PF1 in that sense, having an even greater volume of options while hopefully streamlining the maths and reducing bloat. Its success on that front is what the Playtest is here to find out.

I dont consider this a copy of any other game, I just find this to be not a very good game. Our first session was not fun, the mechanics are not fun for us, the character creation was not fun. That is not how I was hoping this would be. I love Paizo and Pathfinder.

And you took notes and such to provide constructive feedback, right?
