Gunpowder and its mechanics in 2E

Prerelease Discussion

Well now that we had a look on how items and alchemy have been reworked to work better in PF2E i started to wonder how the effects of gunpowder items would work both in crafting and mechanically in combat/encounter.

With Gunpowder items i mean vaguely around everything using gunpowder or "explosives" per say, like Grenades, Bombs, Guns, Firework and the like, and maybe some of the items that "work as" gunpowder, maybe something similar to the "Warplock Rifles" the Skaven use in Warhammer Fantasy.

Will we be able to see any of these items in the first releases of PF2E or would we need to see a expansion before we will see the resurfacing of firearm weaponry? At least i hope reworking the firearm system to be more compelling and less than a pain then 1E is considered.

They've said guns wont be in the original book because they'd want to do a separate playtest for it.

Search for Eric Mona's posts from beginning of playtest blogs.

Know Direction podcast with Erik Mona. I think from March.

I have a lot of strong opinions and cogent suggestions regarding this topic. I think the gun rules in PF E1 are comically silly and fairly unsatisfying. That said, I can wait to cross that bridge when I come to it.

I'm okay with guns being for later. They're changing core basics like actions, attack progression, AC progression and so on to such an extent that the basics really need to be playtested heavily and locked down first. Once the core game is rock solid, we can worry about "exception" weapons that might screw with the system.

I would be ok with core guns - I guess the new TAC would work in favor of this and the reload requirements would be probably similar to (heavy) crossbow
but it is probably really better if the implement it after playtesting
