Recruitment

@Ouachitonian - Sure, skinwalkers can be allowed. They're not unbalanced, and they've got some interesting and cool flavor. Just make sure there's a reason you didn't pick human.

If you're going to do nature-themed, I would suggest either a savage and wild character from Arcadia, totally divorced from civilization, or to be Avistani and a shipwreck-victim. The Arcadian civilizations are quite advanced and sophisticated and largely not nature-themed.

You have until the 30th.

Okay. I will ask for input from my fellow players, and I will get back to you. For Ravnur, Xomec, and Sulan, I don't think I need anything more from you.

I think that I still need Jon Anthony to check in and say that he's completed his character.

Work went ballistic. I should be able to finish up tonight. I'm pretty sure that shopping is all thats left.

Any particular recommendations for Favored Enemies or Terrains?

Good question!

Favored terrain (swamp, water, mountains, jungle)

Favored enemy (magical beast, fey, giant, human, animal)

Here's Cnut, Ouachitonian's submission. I may still make some tweaks, but he should be mostly done. He's a Natural Weapon ranger, preferring to close to melee and use his claws and bite, though he will fight from range with his longbow if the situation requires. Long term, I expect him to acquire a bear companion, and then probably take him into the Nature Warden prestige class, though that's not necessarily set in stone.

What motivates Ravnur? Does he have any goals? Actually, everyone should answer this question, if you can.

For Sulan, his primary motivation is really just survival. Lost and alone on this wild continent/island, having become outcast from his tribe, he really just is looking to enhance his chances at living.

From his time in the desert he knows that solitary wanderers don't last long, so he hopes to replace his clan with a new batch of allies.

Xemoc wants to find a place that he can call home. While he enjoys the life of a wandering warrior helping those in need, that lack of a place to call home and people that he can call family takes a toll on him He also wants to hone his mindblade and mental armor, eventually becoming a metaforge so that he might better protect those he cares about.

Grand Lodge

I would love to do a Paladin of Shelyn seeking to spread the word of beauty and love to the "New" World.

Or even a strange wondering warrior of Love who is a Swashbuckler using a glaive(via Balded Brush)

I think I'm all set.

I'd originally imagined Jon being shipwrecked and trailing the party into camp, but he could have come in on one of the other boats. Whatever makes integrating him easiest. I do imagine that he hasn't found Andrea, and that he is somewhat anxious about her.

Motivation: Jon's looking for opportunites for a new life. He'd be willing to work to garner favor with the local authorities. He's got a sense of responsibility to the community and justice and fair play.

Crunch, the weakest half, is finished here I believe. I'm nearly finished with the shift I had to cover tonight; I'll be finishing up her lore then.

And I had initially messaged you about a Dwarf; sorry I ditched that plan, but I couldn't get a good feel for anyone but her this time around.

Lirgeni? That's an unusual ethnicity. I'm looking forward to what you come up with.

Okay, Jon! Thanks, looks good to me.

Just a couple more days until I spring for a decision.

If I've missed this, I'm sorry: what year is it, and how long was the trip from Absalom?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The date in-game is Sarenith 19th of 4711. The trip began on Gozran 13th, so the trip was about two months.

I hate the waiting part.

Is Dragonrider an available class?

Grand Lodge

No. Of 3rd party, only DSP psionics are allowed.

If you want to be considered, please post notice of your application's completion ASAP. The end of the month is nearing and I am getting ready to close recruitment and call it.

Cnut is good to go.

I'm going to withdraw, not enough time and I can't seem to get over making something necromancer related.

A Juju Oracle, which I though would have been fun. Bringing free labor, in the form of monster skeletons, for the colony. Some more healing to the group but overall I don't think it would have fit in. :/ If it would have, possibly then I will make something for the future, but I don't want to muddy the waters! lol.

So best of luck to everyone who completed their characters! Maybe next time if another opening comes around!

im sorry, i couldnt log on since wednesday. everytime it just kicked me back to log in screen :(

just poking the thread to say im still here though

I think Sulan is ready, aside from buying things like rope and rations, which I normally leave until after selection, because it's kind of a pain in the a$$.

If you need me to do that stuff first, let me know.

Xomec is completed. Once again thanks for the consideration.

So I am having Skrit as one of the volunteers to go on this adventure to explore mostly untamed lands. Intellectual curiosity will be the main reason he claims to have wanted to go. Being an expert on a number of topics that might come in handy exploring wilderness. But it wouldnt take long to figure out he rarely talks about his past in his homeland.

From an out of character perspective the roll I see him filling is something of a skill/knowledge monkey who will eventually go into buffing and supporting the party when he gains Infusions. His main combat contributions will be via bombs, particularly debuff heavy ones, like his Frost bomb currently. He also has a huge Craft Alchemy bonus so he can pump out all manner of potions and alchemical goods to aid the people around him. Possible source of tension, he's not a good guy. Not evil and into pain or suffering by any means. He's just CN and he started his travels to make a name for himself somewhere new. Skrit led a comfortable life as a wealthy merchant once and that's something he'd like to get back to if possible.

Question How open are you to retraining feats? Because thematically I love the idea of the feat Harvest Parts. It would let me get materials to help offset the cost of anything alchemical I make but in the long run I dont know if its going to be worth it. If i craft a lot to help people out, awesome. But if not I figure I might want to retrain it later on. If retraining wont be available I may just choose something more universally useful.

Narrative Questions:
1. First, I'd like some kind of narrative backstory. Doesn't have to be very long or involved, or really special or dramatic (although it completely can be if you like). I would, however, like it to touch on a few key points: What was your character's upbringing like? What was their social status? Do they have any sort of profession, and how did they get into it? How old are they?

He is a 32 year old merchant formerly of the Padishah Empire of Kelesh. He spent most of his life there and although he does not talk about it often now his life there was a happy one. He mainly studied flora and fauna of the desert. He conducted business with various alchemists within the city, selling them materials and buying potions to resell to other customers. His family was extensive and relatively close but Skrit wanted to separate himself from his family and stand out more as an individual. He was happy to see his family and often sent money to his parents or siblings when they were in need but appreciated his separation from them as well.
The locket around his neck bears the engraving "SK". Although it is not something he speaks of to anyone but his closest family and friends, the K is for Krissa his wife who passed away several years ago. It was her passing that caused him to sever his ties from his homeland. Everything reminded him of his loss and he longed to start anew somewhere.

2. Second, everyone (well, most people) have people in their lives. It's okay if your answers to this are "no people", but that has to be a conscious choice. I'd like you to include in your submission two characters: One NPC that your character is leaving behind in their previous life, and one NPC or PC that your character meets on their months at sea. What do these people mean to you? What do you think of them?

He's leaving behind a massive family in the Empire of Kelesh, but he had put up more and more distance between them and himself over the years after the death of his wife. Again, had she been alive still he likely never would have traveled so far without her. An elven alchemist named Tammar Delnari was a long time partner of Skrits and was one of the few people who saw up close how bad things had gotten for Skrit after Krissa's passing. Tammar was happy to see Skrit trying to find something to motivate him and move on from. He sent him off with a number of books on flora and fauna from other climates and the differences in alchemical practices of various nations. Tammar was a dear friend whom will be missed and whose gifts would shape who Skritt became in time.

Vorn and her infant daughter Mai, two ratfolk he encountered upon the sea voyage continue to be a fascinating pair to him. Ratfolk are generally so communal. He recognizes the oddity he represents by traveling alone and leaving family behind. So to find another Ratfolk who only recently gave birth making her way alone to a strange new continent is very curious to Skrit. He longs to hear more about what drove Vorn to her decision.

3. I want to know why your PCs are leaving behind everything they've ever known. Could be lots of reasons, but nobody does that sort of thing for s@&$s and giggles. Unless they do! Feel free to write a character like that, but it should be explicit.

As above, he left because of the death of his wife. Seeking something new, a purpose to drive him out of the grief he was left with after her passing.

4. They have a class. Presumably, those abilities didn't manifest out of nowhere. Why are they whatever class they are? Did they get training? Did their grandmother f%~& a demon?

He picked up bits and pieces of alchemical knowledge during his time as a merchant. He had to know what he was selling to various alchemists and be able to inspect the products they gave him in return so it only made sense. His skill in the subject was largely superficial until circumstances began to demand otherwise. Traveling along from the Empire of Kelesh to shipping off point of the consortium of ships for Arcadia, he was forced to but a lot of theoretical knowledge to the test. Injuries and adversities had to be dealt with and so he did, pouring over the books his old partner had given him for information and a lot of trail and error along the way.

5. What does your character look and act like? How do they come off? How do they dress? What equipment do they use?

Standing just under four feet tall, Skrit has a coat of grey-brown hair and bright yellow eyes. He stands tall but rarely stands still, his small form constantly darting about with almost nervous energy as he gesticulates and pantomimes while he speaks. He talks with his hands as much as his mouth and tends to occupy the personal space of whoever he is talking to. This is largely due to differences in culture both in the Empire of the Kelesh and in Ratfolk culture. He tends to wear the light, loose fitting robes so common among Keleshites. He used to wear a headdress but without the constant threat of sand blowing into one’s eyes he has taken to leaving his head bare. Instead, being fond of jewelry, he has taken to wearing ornate golden earrings and caps on his ears. When interacting with Skrit it is generally clear that he is an intelligent, passionate man. Those without much patience might also find him somewhat arrogant or condescending. Still if his overbearing nature can be overlooked he is happy to be a source of esoteric and interesting information, always eager to take on a new project. Something he makes sure to almost never reveal is the presence of the strange tumor familiar on his chest. It was the result of an experiment in his earlier days learning alchemy and while he has grown fond of the creature he recognizes the strangeness of it and doesn’t speak of it to strangers.

6. If your character has any self-awareness of their own alignment, what do they think of themselves? Why are they whatever alignment they are?

To step out of character, choosing alignments is always hard for me and this question frames the reason very well. I feel like their self-awareness of their alignment vs the players naming of their alignment is often very different for characters. In Skrit’s case though I think he is fairly aware of his alignment. The chaotic side, the part of him that shuns the crowd or the norm just for the fun of it, to be different and special, that has always been there driving him. And as far as the good/evil axis goes he is not, frankly speaking, the nicest person. In his day he took part in several darker deals and made no effort to avoid hurting people. Indeed, when someone was in his way he was happy to arrange accidents for them. Not always ones that cause physical harm, but he wouldn’t take it off the table either. He takes no joy in other people’s pain and in fact can take pride in making the people he cares about happy. At the end of the day though he is looking out for himself and how others relate to him to decide how he is going to treat them. I think he’s pretty happy with who he is. If anything, he may desire to be or perhaps even already believe he is more lawful and orderly than I as a player feel he is. In his eyes I imagine a lot of what he does isn’t chaotic so much as following a very erratic set of rules. But as a player I see him as fairly chaotic at the end of the day.

Okay. I will close recruitment. Give me a bit to think and look through your posting history and weigh some options, and then I will choose. I've been a bit busy with work to really properly do this, so I apologize for the slight delay.

The characters in consideration are:

Skritt,

Sulan Kator,

Catyrhinja,

Cnut,

Jon Anthony,

Ravnur,

Xomec.

If your character is not listed, it's because I didn't receive notice or see that your character is completed. If you think I'm wrong about this, please let me know ASAP. Thank you all for your interest and hard work.

@ Skritt - retraining is fine to me, as long as you have the money/resources and the time.

Okay, I'd like to accept Peet's Sulan Kator, half-orc goliath druid. Please post into our discussion thread and dot the gameplay thread, and we can all say hi and work out how to bring you in.

Everyone else, many apologies. Thank you for your hard work, and I hope you see you next time.

Woot! Thanks for the pick!

COngratulations, Peet. Good gaming to you and leinathan's group. Looks like it will be huge fun.
