Waves of negative energy cause all living creatures in the spell's area to become exhausted. This spell has no effect on a creature that is already exhausted.
If you stay continually exhausted, you're completely immune. Sleep is for the weak.

There's a cracked ioun stone which converts fatigue/exhaustion to sickened/nausea. Add landlubbers lozenges and you're fine.
Various other magic items affect fatigue/exhaustion directly. A cord of stubborn resolve for example. They tend to be more expensive.
The placebo effect spell, or (lesser) restoration can remove it afterwards. Lesser restoration may be best delivered in potion form.
