Which Race / Theme / Class are you?

General Discussion

If you were propelled into the world of Starfinder, what would be your Race, Theme, and Class*?

*Class may be augmented by an archetype (and if one doesn't exist, make one up!) or may even be multiclassed.

Dont pick what you want to be, but rather give a best guess based on your attributes, stature, mannerisms, knowledge, education, skills, hobbies, etc..

To make it more fun, you can't choose human.

Also, don't assume you'd be a CR 1/4 NPC or something like that. Let's say that you will be a PC with a Theme, Race, and Class.

Example 1:
A good friend of mine is the lead in a lot of local musicals. He's tall and intelligent, and his job revolves around computers. He has a hobby of building computers.

He would be a Damaya Lashunta Icon Technomancer.

Example 2:
Another friend is huge and muscle bound, and works as a fork lift driver. He loves tinkering with all sorts of equipment and is decent at computers.

He'd be a Vesk Themeless Mechanic.

Example Me:
I've been using Bookrat or mini giant space hamster as my internet handle since the mid 90s, so I figure that puts me squarely in the Ysoki race.

My career is as a professional scientist, so scholar would be an appropriate theme.

My degree is in toxicology, which puts me in the mystic class fairly well, based on the life science aspects of the class. But I was a combat soldier for a number of years with two wars under my belt. So I'd have a Multiclass of soldier.

That makes me a Ysoki Scholar Soldier 2/Mystic X

The soldier level may be higher. I don't know.

I honestly think I would prolly be Themeless, because I don't really have a direction in life...

I have a natural strength that has given me feats of strength without ever being "in shape"... I have a quirky charisma about me (I know noone who actually hates or even dislikes me because of it) and make fast friends easily, and with a lack of any True common sense. I think I can fairly easily put myself as a Korasha Lashunta.

Meanwhile, my Class I'd have to say that it'd prolly be Mechanic, I spend near all my life on the computer, having an Exocortex doesn't seem too different. I've also been learning the hardware of computers thanks to my roommate. Then again I'd prolly have at least some levels in Mystic, because of my need to be around animals. (I actually don't have a career, but I do volunteer regularly at my local animal shelter.)

I'm thinking Themeless Korasha Lashunta Mystic(Xenodruid) 3/Mechanic X.

Oh, good call. We can go deeper with the specialties.

For me, I'd go Bombard Soldier, because grenades were the only weapon I scored expert (highest possible score) with. That was with the M203 Grenade Launcher attachment to the M16, but I was also our best shot with the MK-19 (fully automatic grenade launcher). I'll go with level 4, because that's the rank I achieved while I was in.

For Mystic, I'd go Healer, representing not only my time training as a Combat Lifesaver in the army, my EMT certification after the army, my work in the emergency room, and my degree in toxicology.

So I'd probably be a Ysoki Scholar Soldier (Bombard) 4/Mystic (Healer) X

I think something like Android Technomancer Scholar. I don't tend to read people to well during conversation, and people have difficulty reading me (everyone thinks I hate them for some reason). I'm studying to be an Engineer, but my strengths lie in knowledge and technical skills rather than the build-work of a Mechanic, so I'm thinking Technomancer.

And Scholar because I have a habit of retaining massive amounts of useless information and being able to recall it near-constantly.

Hmmm, looking over my life choices and experiences and try to find something even vaguely similar in the game.

First off for race, the furry calling all my life demands I must be Kitsune from the Starfarer's Companion. If we're talking only Starfinder Society then definitely Ysoki.

Theme, toss up between Scholar and Spacefarer and both have something to do with what I did in my youth, my educational backgrounds and my careers over the years. Throw in a little yearning to tip the balance to Spacefarer theme. I love exploring!

On to class and it's easy seeing the choices before me - operative. Believe it or not it fits my past best of all of them.

So yeah, Ysoki spacefarer operative. Curious but calculating.

3PP and any other Starfinder product is allowed! By all means use other sources to expand the options! :)

(Also, Alex makes good work, so his stuff should always be included).

Themeless Human Envoy.

I never had much direction, but I'm pretty good with leading and organising people where required. I do okay with computers, but that's easily explained with a few ranks in the skill.

If I were to have a shipboard role, probably best suited Captain.

Grand Lodge

half orc ,bad scholar, tecnomancer

Race: Half-Human/Half-Android (combines all the disadvantages of both)
Class: Technomancer, but really badly optimized
Theme: Themeless, but the +1 to any ability score cannot be used to synergize with the rest of the build (failed Scholar)

Space Goblin Outlaw. Drone mechanic with a camera equipped hover bot. Would have very little fighting experience, but his personal computer would be filled with terabytes of videos, most of which, people are unaware they were being taped.

He'd live in the vents of absolom station, eating only what he could steal from the local McAbadars.

XD Randalfin, that's awesome! And hilarious, awesomely hilarious?

Also if we're going off of fursonas and allowing 3PP now, I claim being a Catfolk! 2 of the three reasons for Lasunta still apply, and I have a decent amount of natural grace and agility, then there's the Cat's Luck racial.... I was born on Friday the 13th and everyone who knew my parents said I'd be really lucky because of it. x3

Xenoseeker for sure. It's the only theme that sounds like me at all.

Class is tougher. Maybe Mystic (I have been described as "That weird witchy lady"). I don't know Mystic well enough to name a specialty without pulling out the book, though.

Race... Well, from my abysmal carrying capacity, it's safe to say a Str-penalty is there. Beyond that, I'm not particularly nimble or dextrous, but am pretty hardy and rarely get sick. Con-bonus? Finish that off with being apparently approachable, if everyone jumping to confide in me their secrets and problems is any indication, and I think I'm a gnome. (Classic feychild gnome, not bleachling.)

Gnome Xenoseeker Mystic. I think I'm preempively banned from a number of tables, huh?

I'm small and not that strong but intelligent. I hoard scientific knowledge as a hobby and work hard to live off my writing.

So... I guess I would fit as an Ysoki Scholar Envoy ?

This has been a fun thread to read so far. Lets throw in my two cents.

Definately something int-based, by elimination moreso than anything else (never was overly physically inclined). I'm in IT, so technomancer or mechanic would fit reasonably well.

I'm pretty big so a half-orc with a con bonus would fit reasonably well, the survival bonus is easilly explained by me having lived on a farm all my life.

And like many others before me in this thread, I know way too much useless crap (and occasionally something usefull aswell) so scholar there.

So.. half-orc scholar technomancer is probably the ticket. Gotta say, the 'no human' stipulation makes this a lot more fun xD

Race is the easy bit: Dwarf.
I'm stocky, hardy and have a lack of social grace. (I'm blunt in my speech, and don't care for emotions or feelings of beings outside my personal circle).

Theme is a bit difficult, but Spacefarer's abilities lie close to my own, I just wish I had the ability to travel a lot more than I do now.

As for class, Mechanic with drone, based on my degree in mechanical engineering with focus on robotics. (Sadly not working in that field, but I like to hobby with it still).

So: Dwarf Spacefarer Mechanic.

Liberty's Edge

I'm a scholar of human psychology and generally considered pretty good at reading people, plus I'm kind of a leader in my group, plus being a giant nerd...

I've had some health problems recently involving my bone density, and have always had allergies and never been super physically impressive.

I'm also a really devout pagan and have had things actually happen when I prayed for them.

So I'm pretty sure I'd be a Damaya Lashunta Scholar...but I'm not sure whether I'd fall under Envoy or Mystic. Could be Envoy 1/Mystic X I suppose...that sounds pretty unoptimized for me, though. ;)

From my experience, priests tend to also be pretty good at human psychology (specifically, military chaplains). The priest theme could capture both your study and your religion.

What about Damaya Lashunta Priest Envoy? Then focus your skills on Life Science, Sense Motive, and Culture to heighten the human psychology study?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

It doesn't make it more fun if I can't be human. Then I'm just telling you about my characters, not hypothesizing what life choices I'd make if I, a human being, was hurtled into pact world space.

I'd probably be an Android Scholar Technomancer. My autism has already minmaxed my Int over Cha pretty hard, I'd take Physical science as the scholar specialization since I'm majoring Physics, and given the amount of time I spend making wild guesses as to how magic works (and the fact I get pretty technophilic whenever I interact with fantasy worlds), technomancer just seems natural.

Also very possible. Actually, I like that one, let's go with that. :)

If that's what you truly think, then you've completely misunderstood the point of the thread.

It's not about what choices you would make if you were hurdled into the game. If that were the case, I'd just ask "what would you want to be if you were in the game?" But that's not the question. It's not about what you want to be.

The question is about reflecting on what choices you have made so far, and how it would best align with the options available in game. And it's about your personal characteristics (which generally aren't optional) and which race they'd be best reflected as.

The 'no human' stipulation forces people to truly think about themselves and how'd they'd be represented in a different race, rather than just lazily picking human because that's what we all already are.

But then I'm just telling you about my characters.

So you only ever play the best replicate of yourself that you can think of in every game?

The idea is to decide what other race represents the real you best. Works for me, and isn't that similar to telling about your character.

bookrat wrote:

I also use TV and movie characters as inspiration.

I still don't get it, but whatever, have fun!

I would be a human ace pilot envoy, because I feel that best represents me and my skills.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 16

I'm a software engineer with a Master's degree that moonlights as a game designer, so...

scholar human mechanic or technomancer

Race: Kitsune
Class: Rouge/Wizard
Theme: Wandering Researcher

Damaya Lashunta Scholar Envoy, with bluff selected as expertise skill. I don't seek out leadership roles, I'd rather hide in my spreadsheets and databases, but they seem to find me regardless.

Scholar theme is close, although my focus is on culture, not the sciences. Xenoseeker is not far off either; I frequently find myself "translating" for departments and managers that don't seem to be speaking the same language.

By my family's reckoning, I'm also fairly effeminate, so the race choice works.

Lesse, I'm super inquisitive, love learning random information, and am easily excitable. I've got a decent understanding of psychology, and am pretty good at learning new information. So...I'd probably end up being a ysoki scholar technomancer or mystic. If not those, then probably an envoy with the phrenic adept archetype.

Well, I feel a spiritual connections with bugs.

I also however strongly believe in the importance of community, and peaceful inquisitiveness. I'm pretty obsessive on certain things, and I always like to make personal choices to make myself unique. So, I feel I would be a Shirren.

I would probably be a Scholar, as that is what interests me the most and I feel suits me.

While I enjoy data analytics, I don't really like engineering, so Mechanic may not be the best fit. I think Operative would suit me the best.

If humans are allowed in this equation:

Tend to gravitate towards own race, but with readily changeable gender products might do it every few years to 'freshen things up' as finances permit.

Based on work and life experience, probably Envoy for the 'people skills' and then either Themeless or Priest.

If humans are not allowed in this equation:

Android, half-orc or Vesk Mystic Themeless or Scholar

Human (or maybe dwarf since im often described as "curmudgeonly" and i have a good beard) spacefarer star shaman mystic. Step 1: get a little shuttle to live in. Step 2: fsck right off and live in the peace and quiet of the vacuum of space. Step 3: nap.

Hmm... make korasha lashunta -I'm average height but peeps say im short. I am stronger than I look, am pretty good at convincing people of things, but make stupid decisions. I've always claimed there's a cosmic balance to the universe, but my current job in sales makes me think Envoy is more likely than Solarion. Theme is tough.

Android,scholar Technomancer

Closest I could come to an intelligent but socially awkward Research Biochemist.

This seems really interesting, so I'll take a crack at it!

Race: Half-Elf. IRL, I'm known for my youthful appearance and personality to match! I think it's a perfect fit. Plus, my late sleeping habits fits in quite well with the whole "immunity to magical sleep" thing.

Theme: Scholar. I like to learn. Mainly random facts and certain niche interests of mine, but still. I think I do well enough on tests to qualify.

Class: Solarian. Despite what some may think, I'm actually an ambiverted kind of person, and I think it lends well to the whole creation/destruction powers of the class. Then there's also the fact that I like the Sun thematically, and yet am the very definition of a night owl. Basically, contrasting traits that blend to together to form who I am.

Race: Android. I've had to work quite hard to understand why other's do such strange things. Turns out, I'm the weird one. Spare parts might be nice.

Theme: Themeless. I do a bit of most things, and I don't really fall into any of the categories available in the core rule book.

Class: Mechanic. I like to tinker. The machine I'm posting from is a frankenstein of several broken computers that I got out of the trash, and I'm working on an airsoft turret controlled by an old smartphone.

Specialization: Techromancer.

I'm a Chaotic Evil Drow Outlaw Operative.

Pfft, you and your chordates.
*continues petting chitinous/tentacled/obviously artificial creature*

I'd probably be an android Scholar operative with the Explorer specialization.

Android: A lot of people have a hard time reading my emotions, and vice-versa, and I've been told I'm pretty smart and logical.
Scholar: I have so much random knowledge that is not pop-culture, people sometimes do double-takes when I know the answer to something. Of course, it's not actually USEFUL knowledge most of the time, but still.
Operative: Learned a little bit of everything, but did not specialize in anything to be ridiculously good at it.
Explorer Specialization: I like nature, it makes me feel alive.

So, yeah, a nature-loving artificial person.

Android Spacefarer Operative 1/Akashic Mystic X

Spacefarer is mostly because I've traveled a lot and wish I was travelling more. The Operative is because I have to put my climbing skills, the strength, and the occasional accidental invisibility somewhere. Akashic Mystic is the closest I found to noncharismatic artist who likes to know things. Seems accurate enough.

First, my species would be dwarf. If you took one look at me in real life, you'd see why.

My theme would be scholar, I think. I have a high level of retention for knowledge.

Class is interesting. Many describe me as having a preternatural connection to nature and animals, so I think Xenodruid Mystic seems like me.

By elimination I would have to be human. I can't say I have high charisma, but I can fake it (part of my job), so a -2 charisma race doesn't apply. I have intelligence, but far more wise than traditionally "smart." I definitely have a low constitution, but higher strength and mediocre dexterity. Human became my fallback!

I'm a physical therapist, and I finally graduated at the 22nd grade between my various degrees...so, scholar it is!

I had a lot of fun finding the class, though. The Mystic Healer would be appealing just for working in a "life sciences" profession. However, Overload fits WAY better for physical therapy. Sure, we're doing some "healing" in our work, but mostly it's about reading people and tricking them into doing what they're supposed to do to get themselves better. Mindbreaker was too much oriented to destroying your enemies. Overlord was making people do what you tell them, it's perfect for a PT!

There doesn't seem to be a restriction to core races, so in addition to the half-humans, Kalo seem somewhat fitting (they have +2 dex, +2 wis, -2 con). I don't have Pact Worlds yet, and it's not up on the databases I check either, so you'll have to ask somebody else for their statlines.

Doh edit cause I posted to the wrong thread haha. I am probably would be a goblin mechanic. The guy you want fixing your stuff but don't want out in front of the customers haha.

Mechanic / Technomancer multiclass,
with the VR Junkie theme (3pp from Necromancer Games)
And Data Jockey archetype

Former Air Force, Computer Programmer,
Low Con and Wis, Moderate Dex and Cha.

It's the icon, Egyptoid. It makes everything you write read as a bit hostile.

For me call me an akashic mystic, I'm good with obscure lore but only moderately good with tech. Smallish, better con than dex, early white hair; bleachling gnome could fit if there's some exaggeration involved. Scholar or themeless I guess.
