Yeah, I've got a bunch of Mites (you know the little blue ugly dudes that's even goblins think are homely), and I'm painting names on each of them. Something the other Mites would call them - sort of "nick" names. But they have to be suitable for use at a PFS table in public, so no profanity please...

Some names I am thinking of using....

Booger
Snot-rocket
Scabby
Carrion-bait
Ankle-biter (maybe not use this as I am sure we have it out there as a PC)
Maggot
Urinalysis
....

Anyone have suggestions?

Read this thinking it would be coming up with the word for a group of mites. You know, like "a murder of crows" or "a pride of lions". Now I can't get "a booger of mites" out of my head. It's like a mantra.

I thought you wanted a name for the group of mites, like a tribal or gang name. Like... if they all rode tiny dinosaurs or lizards they could be the 'Dino-mites'.

  • Flea-biter (eats fleas and insects and constantly has bugs in his teeth)
  • Pop-Eye (has only one eye, except when using his doom power, which makes his eyes bulge hideously open as it does for other mites, only his one eye pops open to reveal a hollow socket, which may or may not contain something; butterfly coccoon, walnut, tiny gemstone, mouse skull, etc.)
  • Egg-Head (wears a large eggshell as a helmet, possibly from a large lizard, emu, etc.)
  • Herman (hideously ugly, covered in scars and stitches. Is really a flesh golem variant made from mite corpses.)

Bob - short term memory loss, that's why his name is so insignificant and easy.
Toe-Licker - has a necklace of... you know. Fidgets with the toenails when bored, and put one in his mouth and sucks on it as he fights.
Fly-Friend - has a semi-swarm of flies that buzz around him constantly.

If you want help naming these Mites, just pick any "gross"-sounding adjective, verb or noun (such as maggot, filth, bite) and put it into Thesaurus.com. Or, try a name generator. I like http://www.fantasynamegenerators.com/

The random name generator for monsters from Diablo II would work well.

Chaos Vex!

Skull Biter!

Night Feast!

Warp Wraith!

Puke Eater the Unclean! <-- I swear I ran into this one once

Pussuckers;

1) (n) the largest and most prominent booger of mites found within the maggottoad region of the swamp of the same name; significant members include Egghead (local shaman and lizardfolk hunter), Toe-licker (formerly called Bob, but, due to memory loss, but has since been renamed to to habit of licking toes; does not remember previous name), Fly-Friend (aka Flea-biter, aka Maggot; antipaladin associated with snacking on and befriending their), Max (a local barbarian spreading its own legend as 'mitey' - believed to not understand the pun), Skull-farter (along with Night-Nibbler, Warped-Face, and Ugly), and currently led by Grand Poo, Puke Eater the Dirty

2) (n) a salty, damp, oily swamp comprised of many infected and diseased creatures, especially the various boogers of mites; divided into several regions, with the maggottoad region being the largest; believed to be an ancient

2) (adj.) a group of creatures what suck on various forms of puss; "The pussuckers really live up to their name! I watched 'em swarm over that guy o' theirs what popped 'is zits! I'mma never sleep again!"

I suspect since this is for PFS, none of this helps - as I'm just repeating what everyone else is saying - but, I figured I should write it up, since I can. Also, technically speaking, it seems the official name is a very banal "band" or "tribe"... XD

Nah - Bob got his name cause he's dyslexic... he keeps writing his name back-to-front...

Y'know what? I've always come at mites from a completely different angle than this thread. So they have a racial "hatred" and the fluff on them talks about how they're always really mad at other races right? I coupled that with their fey nature and thought "maybe mites think they're pretty and cute and what not and get cheesed off at other races for equating them with the ugly, nasty stuff of the world."

So first off, a group of mites in my home game is called a "Tradition" of mites. Despite their low intelligence they like to use a far more grandiose term. This also owes to their more lawful nature.

Individually they're known by far more fey-sounding names: fearswindle, Underfilch, Nub. They might occasionally give notable members of the Tradition a moniker, like Spindlefinger the Silent Lifter.

Finally, although this has nothing to do with naming them... I like to have them dressed far more cosmopolitan than their gremlin cousins, to reflect their more "civilized" nature. Mites in my world wear vests and waistcoats; knickers and spats (though they never wear shoes). I modeled their style off a combination of Tolkein's hobbits and the really smart gremlin in Gremlins 2.

Mites, then, in my world consider themselves gentleman thieves, champions of the true downtrodden of nature, the vermin. The level 3-4 leaders are often NPC adepts described as witches, vermin-themed urban rangers or druids, or decently optimized rogues.

Just my 2 CP, in case you're interested.

HEY! We ain't ugly, you small-nosed pinkskin longlegger! Mites are like challenging works of art by a bleeding edge, misunderstood genius. Non-mites, especially art-illiterate murderhobos, rarely grasp a mite's true beauty until after his or her death.

...

Wait, I think I got that wrong somehow.
