Apparently this got announced awhile ago, but being tax season I totally missed it.
"This is an ongoing adventure that will be updated and rereleased incrementally several times each season, collectively telling a longer story while also presenting exciting stand-alone chapters."
Sounds like a time limited scenario, well sorta. Like it'll update and change as time goes on.
Will it be playable multiple time?
What's going on here?
Why am I excited?

The fact that it'll be updated makes me hopeful it's a repeatable special. Not sure how they're going to pull it off, but if every season adds different content (even if it's just different handouts, like Wounded Wisp), I'd like to play it every year.
Also, Blakros Museum. I hope there'll be lots of callbacks to the Society's history. A lot of old artifacts and mission items are either stored in the Society's vaults or in there. It'd be great if we revisited some of them.

From memory, it was mentioned in the Know Direction podcast as being:
a. replayable
b. updated every 6 months, once at Gencon and once mid-season. You have 6 months to play it and then it changes again. The description given was that there will be a number of elements (can't remember exactly what they were called, but for the sake of this description I will call them scenes). Say there is 4 scenes in SS1.1, when it is updated mid season for SS1.2 they might remove two scenes and replace them with two new ones, and for SS1.3, the two original ones get replaced with two new ones, and so it goes....
c. I think each iteration can only be played once and has to be played within the 6 months.
It is a multi-table, but I am hoping it has a lowish table count, and no other restrictions (eg not Con only), for us smaller lodges.

Pathfinder RPG, Pathfinder Society, character levels 1-11
A Pathfinder Society Special designed for levels 1–11.
The world-renowned Blakros Museum has outdone itself, gathering an unrivaled collection of relics from the Shining Crusade, a holy coalition that felled the greatest lich to threaten Golarion. When trouble befalls the exhibit mere days before its debut, the Pathfinders intervene, only to discover that one of the relics is key to averting a far greater disaster that has laid in wait for a millennium.
“The Solstice Scar” is a multi-table interactive adventure in which each group’s actions can affect neighboring groups and contribute to the entire room’s success. This is an ongoing adventure that will be updated and rereleased incrementally several times each season, collectively telling a longer story while also presenting exciting stand-alone chapters.

I just hope I'll finally get a chance to use the map I bought of the new museum design. They put out an adventure with that new map a year before publishing the map for purchase, and then haven't put out another adventure that uses it since everyone bought the friggin map. So most of us bought the map assuming there would be plenty of new museum adventures to use it with, and haven't had a chance to use it even once.

The more I think about it, the more I hope it is not Con only. Unlike other specials where you can get to play them if you don't go to cons, just have to wait 6-12 months, and get a group of like minded players together, this one doesn't seem lend itself to that....if you are unable to play it after the version updates.
Mmmm...if they do want it to be Con only, maybe Paizo could lock version 1 as Con Only til Version 2 comes out. Version 2 then becomes Con Only, and Version 1 free for non Con play until Version 3 is released. Rinse and Repeat. I would be happy with that....

i'd love to see a list of the maps we need for this - running it in a few weeks - eek
I'm in the process of developing this adventure now, and once I've confirmed exactly which maps are being used where (requires doing some close work on each section just to make sure there don't need to be any adjustments from the author's manuscript) I will be sure to post that information in the adventure's product thread.

Many of the same maps that I've been collecting. Cool. Museum is new, but not entirely unexpected... Er... Is Museum anything like previous Blakros museum maps, or something different?
Hmm
It's like the museum map used in Silver Mount Collection, not like the ones in Mists of Mwangi/Penumbral Accords.

Got it! Format has changed a bit, with all of the overseer text coming before the encounters which happen during that part - threw me for a bit of a loop during the first scan. Really nice to see the stat blocks organzied by subtier - thanks! Settling in to read, will be back with questions. I suspect we'll need a stat block for Nigel Aldain and the hardness value for Blakros obsidian one of these days...

I'm wondering if the version of Solstice Scar being run at Origins (Jun 14-18) will be the same version run at GenCon? I would think so, but I don't want to assume and find out later I was wrong.
And if they are the same (if I'm reading correctly) that means I would only be able to play in one of them, correct?

That's correct. Version A is what launches at PaizoCon 2017, runs at Gen Con 2017, and sees continued play for several months after that. It won't be possible to replay the special for credit until Version B's launch.

Has the minimum table requirement been set?
Yes, 3 tables minimum. Hopefully this will help grow smaller regional conventions.
Also somewhat less complicated reporting mechanics than previous specials, which should allow a GM to also act as an Overseer GM without much trouble. At our local conventions, I often have to fill both rolls at once. After talking with the design team, they agreed that this would be a worthy design goal.

Good call, should make it easier for players to catch up when they miss it.

The three 3 table requirement will make that a lot more likely of happening.
Depending on how complex it is, I might even be up for running a table of it *at a local convention*.
It would take a certain tier of madness on my part to try and run another 'Cosmic Captive' scale scenario at a large convention...

The complexity for the Overseer is minimal. John Compton was able to act as Overseer while playing during PaizoCon.

Meant 'run' as in 'GM a table'. I've seen the elephant that is the Overseer position in a different campaign and I believe the knights in 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' had the best term for it... what was it...

Overseers have all the best lines and parts all for the low, low cost of being able to count.

Depends on the format though.
Our local experience is that the person Overseering is usually the Con organiser as well, so plan the event, submit convention support, book the venue, coord the GM's, muster the tables, do all the reporting etc - works out around 40 hours work (give or take) with all the bits considered. With most of the old MTS you didn't NEED a con, but it made better sense, now you are obliged to have a con - which means at least an event of 15+ tables.
In the PbP medium it has been about the same, if not more spread out over two months. Each Overseer post translates as about 2 hours of posting and admin, including getting googleforms all linked up and answering all the 'fan mail' and managing slow posting tables.
If you could just Overseer and not have all the other junk it would probably be a good gig.

Are you obliged to have a Con to run Solstice Scar? Or could you run it at a sufficiently large local event?
(Venture-Captain Hat) Yes. Generally for the first year of an interactive special's release you can only run it at Paizo supported convention. After the first year, they are generally opened up to general play. Because of the modular nature of this scenario, that may not happen until each version of the scenario is released. How long will that take? Only John, Linda and Tonya can answer that question.
That said, you only need 15 tables played over a 3 day period to qualify as a convention and 3 tables minimum for the special. If you have 12 people who love Pathfinder, you can make that work (3 GMs with 3 players + pregen at each table for the special; 2 GMs and 5 players at each table for each other slot; 7 slots).

So how many tables need to *fire* at a convention to make it a legally supported special??

How many tables actually occur over a weekend doesn't matter for scheduling a special so long as you can reasonably expect all 15 scheduled games to fire. Unexpected things happen. If mass food poisoning strikes, and nobody is around to play the last couple slots on Sunday, write it up in the report.
Just don't schedule tables you know won't happen. Like with most privileges: abuse it, you lose it.

I thought I recall hearing Tonya say that this would not have any convention requirements. But I may be mistaken.

Possible, but I would certainly wait to schedule it until after an official post by PFS leadership. Also, I know that it is only available at officially approved Paizo sponsored conventions until after GenCon.

Can we use the boon for completing the recent PFS survey ("An Exchange of Secrets") to replay "Version A" of The Solstice Scar for credit, say at Origins and then at GenCon?
"An Exchange of Secrets" allows replaying scenarios of Tier 1-5, 3-7, 5-9, or 7-11, depending on how many PCs we reported. By the strict wording, The Solstice Scar is not eligible for replay using this boon, because it is a Tier 1-11 scenario. Is that deliberate? I reported enough PCs to qualify for replaying a 7-11 scenario; I am wondering whether I could play Tier 7-8 at Origins, and replay at Tier 5-6 at GenCon.
(This is a very nice benefit, in any case. Thanks, Paizo folks!)
