Oh good. I just noticed I have no items. I'll need to buy them tonight, unless you're cool with me waiting until selection and then figuring out what's needed with the party.
You can certainly reserve some of your starting gold for purchases after the start of the game, but I would prefer if you have the majority of your equipment purchased before hand.

I am going to swap my skills over slightly. From Survival +1 to Perform (Oratory) +7
I feel Perform would be better for a commander / general.
TerminalArtiste : Gold is max for your class.
Huh, I'd assumed average. A potion of cure light wounds seems like the easiest way to spend the extra 50 gp.

Nothing rouses the spirits like killing bandits and founding kingdoms.
Seems to me that at least a few of the people lookin' ta get one of these here passes to explore the Stolen Lands are former bandits, myself included, and I'd like ta think that we might could give any bandits come across at least one chance to come peaceful like.

I, uh, should have considered that before I spent 100 of Zaqar's gold on expensive jewelry.
Don't judge me.
But potions are a good idea; I'm going to see what I can get with 31 gold.
EDIT: Maybe he only has jewelry worth 80 gold after all, and he has a potion of cure light wounds. Mmmmyeeeeees.

Ha, I like how you think. The only bandits I deal with are either dead or friendly. Let's hope that you're the latter, and the ones that aren't end up as the former.

Well, as far as I'm aware I've yet to meet the Lady of Graves.

All bandits can become friendly with some well placed nudging.

Having submitted a character that obviously fills a similar role to the halfling, I think it quite likely we are in competition.
I would love to be a part of this game, and every post after the submission feels like lobbying for my character's inclusion, which I hate. But it feels like I have to be as active as Faelar on this thread, in order to not give the impression that I am uninterested or apathetic. If the player who posts twice as much as any other gets selected, it would be very hard not to feel that their enthusiasm/lobbying was a contributing factor. This has been quite unlike other recruitment threads in this regard.
So. Sir Wulfric has no need to kill the bandits, or enforce true repentance. They can be tricked, threatened, or persuaded to find targets in neighboring baronies, thereby weakening our rivals. As long as we have plausible deniability. Or, they can become part of our military for better living conditions and job security. He doesn't care what is in their hearts, as long as the right incentives are in place. Magical disguises could be useful in redirecting bandit attacks.

Do not feel like you have to be as active as Faelar (or anyone else for that matter) in order to have your submission taken seriously.
Typically, I am fairly quiet in recruitment threads for games that I have applied for after my submission is complete too. It will not be held against you.

I will be upfront and say that I am very talkative in threads in general if I have the time to spare. I also love talking about builds, which factors in. I hope my own posting frequency hasn't bothered anyone.

That's pragmatic. Zaqar could work with Wulfric. As I pseudo-RP'd above, whether common thugs live or die doesn't matter so much to him; he's mostly concerned with making sure the fight is WON, and he definitely sees utility in spreading the party's infamy by letting bandits run away.
Dead men tell no tales, and sometimes it's GOOD to have tales told.

This is why I usually try to create a character that is unlike anyone elses who has submitted, as I don't like people feeling like I am copying them or something. I can see our characters being different in many ways, but also similar in them too.
We both wish to end fights with little bloodshed if possible and can both end it with spilled blood if not. However you are willing to trick and threaten them, Theodore would not be willing or able to do that (at least not at the beginning, it would all depend on how the game progresses).

I'd like to submit Velathwen for consideration (with the caveat that I still need to work on her a bit - mostly purchases).
If anyone has any suggestions or comments, I'm certainly open to them. Thanks, and good luck to all!
Feel free to work on her as much as you would like up to the 8:00 pm (US CST) deadline tomorrow night.

Mirena's goals (daydreams?) are along the lines of establishing a community that's genuinely enjoyable for most folks to live in and accomplishing (or at least witnessing) something legend-worthy on her way there.
It doesn't need to be a heroic legend by any means, so being underhanded or pragmatic is fine, but due to clause one she'll likely object to anything that appreciably increases tensions and lowers morale among the settlers.
Anna Korvosk |
I actually was thinking about that, myself, I mean I know little to nothing about how Kingmaker goes but you go out there, maybe kick the bandits around a little, then say, "We're looking to establish a settlement out here, and that doesn't spring up from nothing. Clearing land and farming and taking care of wild animals, it's hard work and it isn't glamorous, but it's also a lot less likely to end with you at the end of a rope or the edge of a blade. Work with us, and you'll be treated fairly and respectfully."

Though i know everyone is excited to build a kingdom, the beginning charter has nothing to do with that. It is merely a charter to explore the Greenbelt. If you read between the lines, it is basically, "hey we want some expendable people to go explore this unexplored area that is pretty dangerous. Go explore it under my name and probably claim it for me."

Yeah...what he said. :)
The charter really doesn't expand to setting up your own colony/kingdom until the end of Book 1...of course that doesn't mean that it isn't something that couldn't be discussed during the events of book 1 by ambitious types.

Theodore is just looking for his friend and fulfilling a favour to said friend. So the thought of setting up a Kingdom would never even cross his mind. He is also looking to prove to people that fighting isn't the only answer, however he also wants to get stronger so that he can protect those who need protecting when words fail.
If Theodore is selected as well as another melee type character, Theodore would probably want to spar each evening to keep his skills in tact as well as get better.

Born in the Magwi Expanse amongst a clan of weretigers, ure always felt left as he had not the gift of the moon as the others. He later learned that it is because he was a foundling and had not inherited it like the others. So he left the tribe in search of a way to gain the gift of the moon.
At some point he learned of his likely parentage and went to Bravoy to investigate.
In his search he came across a sleek black panther with a glint of purpose in its eye in the vast wildernesss known as the stolen lands. Following this sleek black panther he was led deep in the jungle to the hut of a middle age druid woman who, told him he had a great destiny and she would teach him to be that great man. So she took him her hut and into her bed and showed him the ways of the druid so that one day he might be able to change shape like his adoptive peoples.

I've been thinking a lot about this issue with what to do with any bandits we come across. Tove is fairly stubborn and headstrong when it comes to the word of the law and following orders but her main drive is to help others and what she wants more than anything is to make the lives of those living on the fringe of society a little easier.
I suppose that if the bandits are repentant and actually want to be helped then Tove would be happy to have them come and join any civilised society, as long as they swore to turn away from their lawless past. But if they are unrepentant then they are really just a source of misery for the kind of people that she is actually interested in helping and in that case she would have to follow the orders set out in the charter and escort them promptly to the gallows.
Faelar Braegen |
Unrepentant bandits will have to be deslt with, of course. The charter clearly states what must happen and who are we to disagree with the law? Theodore is just hoping most will repent.
Xan could show him a thing or 2, I am sure. He will probably pick up the lessons and try to incorporate them into his fighting. He hasn't focused as much on combat as he has his teamwork building and reasoning skills.
