Using a large sized two hander as a medium character

Advice

I'm looking for optimization to do this I'd like a like to use a greatclub or earthbreaker (not worried about optimization for this part), I know of a few ways to do it and at least one trait that gives decent bonuses anybody have any input? I have a maximum 3 levels of dip I can take.

Also one of my buddies says magic items no longer resize when using enlarge person and things like that is that true? If so can I get a link to where it says that please?

Your buddy is incorrect.

Enlarge Person wrote:
All equipment worn or carried by a creature is similarly enlarged by the spell. Melee weapons affected by this spell deal more damage (see Table: Tiny and Large Weapon Damage). Other magical properties are not affected by this spell. Any enlarged item that leaves an enlarged creature's possession (including a projectile or thrown weapon) instantly returns to its normal size. This means that thrown and projectile weapons deal their normal damage. Magical properties of enlarged items are not increased by this spell.

One thing you could use would be a large great terbutje club in two hands. It's got better stats than a greatclub, and you only need exotic weapon proficiency to wield a large one. Flavor-wise, it's an awesome club weapon. Then you can save your level dipping for some Barbarian or Weapon Master or whatever to beat foes extra hard with it.

only ways to use a large two handed weapon is, be large, be a titan fighter fighter, or be a titan brawler barbarian.

there is a forth maybe option. Thunder and fang lets you use an earthbreaker as a one handed weapon. Thus letting you use a large one. PFS and some players feel that it's only a one handed when using a klar in your off hand, so if you feel this route is for you, check with the GM that he agrees it works.

There's a trait for the Oni Tiefling (Superior Clutch)as well as a trait that takes away some of the negatives of using a large sized weapon (Giant'Blooded).

I know there's more c'mon guys keep it coming :)

Mechanically, it's much, much easier to just use a large Great Terbutje and an Effortless Lace; you've got a massive 2d8 slashing club with absolutely zero attack penalty for the cost of one feat for proficiency and a cheap magic item. But anyways...

A single level of Living Monolith grants the ability to grow as if you had Enlarge Person - but it only requires a swift-action to do it. The effect is based on character level, so all you need is 1 level of Monolith to do it.

Otherwise, Titan Mauler is probably the best choice; some Extra Rage and a Furious weapon and you've got a reliable +3 to attacks (along with a tidy damage-boost).

My best idea for it is to take 1 level of titan fighter and then swap to barb for rage. This gives you the lower penalty and rage to help offset it.
But there really isn't more. Wielding weapons to big for you is not something very available in pathfinder.

Check out the iconic barbarian, Amiri.

She uses a bastard sword pretty deftly and she's fun to play.

Then check out Crow and realize that he's better ;)

Mmm, no I'm not really seeing it...

The Exchange

There's very few ways to wield two-handed weapons intended for larger creatures.

  • Third level Titan Mauler (barbarian)
  • First level Titan Fighter (fighter)
  • One of the "random" results when rolling for Variant Tiefling Abilities (#16) in the Blood of Fiends book gives you the ability to wield weapons intended for large creatures.

  • The Ogrekin template has six possible "random" beneficial deformities, one of which lets you wield oversized weapons.[/list]

Effortless Lace won't do anything for a greatclub or earthbreaker as it doesn't actually resize the weapon or allow a weapon larger than normal to actually be wielded, it just reduces the penalty for using an oversized weapon. (See badbird's suggestion of using a large one-handed weapon with effortless lace.)

  • A Large two-handed weapon cannot be wielded by a Medium creature. A Large one-handed weapon can be wielded by a Medium creature as a two-handed weapon.
Aside from the class abilities already mentioned with Titan Mauler and Titan Fighter, you could simply wield a Large Bastard Sword as a two-handed weapon with a -2 penalty if you didn't want to invest in those archetypes.
