Grease Spell: Disappears or does the Evidence Remain?

Rules Questions

If, for example, a character furtively casts grease on the mast a NPC is climbing, and the NPC were to slip off and die would evidence that a grease spell was cast last after the spell's duration or would all the evidence disappear? i.e. no grease stains

I think it all disappears

Grease is a Conjuration spell belonging to the Creation subschool. According to the Magic Rules...

Creation: A creation spell manipulates matter to create an object or creature in the place the spellcaster designates. If the spell has a duration other than instantaneous, magic holds the creation together, and when the spell ends, the conjured creature or object vanishes without a trace. If the spell has an instantaneous duration, the created object or creature is merely assembled through magic. It lasts indefinitely and does not depend on magic for its existence.

So no stains.

Grand Lodge

Only a lingering magical aura for 1d6 rounds.

Of course it would be much more fun if gooey ectoplasm remained drippingly present.

"He's been slimed!"

The spell Greater Detect Magic will detect the trace of magic for 1day/level and can be matched up with the caster, thus identifying the 'killer'.

Good to know about theGreater detect magic.

Thanks Gisher! I didn't think to look there.

You are welcome. The rules are so scattered throughout the books that it can be very hard to find the relevant ones. It's one of the reasons I love these forums.
