Best PFS Buff Wands

Advice

Sovereign Court

I have a life oracle who will have a high UMD. One of the char roles is buffing the others in the group. I will have some party buffs like communal pro from evil. But I want more. Since I won't have a lot of spells known, I intend to use several 1st level wands.

I would like suggestions on what you think are the best spells for this. Remeber 1st level spells. Only caster level 1. Not personal spells since buffing others.

Suggestions?

  • bless weapon
  • mage armor (monks/animal companions)
  • endure elements if you're feeling generous[/i]

longstrider is personal, but it's long enough duration that even someone with minimal UMD could benefit from it (plus good for you, getting to people for the buffs, etc).

Get a wand of Vanish. Delay until right after the party Fighter attacks, make him invisible through the enemy's turn, and let him attack from invisibility on his first attack.

Are we talking spells NOT on the oracle list?

Enlarge Person can find its uses, generally on someone you want to take up a lot of battlefield space.

Entangle isn't really a buff, but hey, it can still be useful too.

Forced Quiet is a sneaky way to get a +4 to Stealth checks. And to make the bard shut up about how many villagers he/she slept with last adventure.

    Grease is the word.

Moment of Greatness can have its uses if you have a source of morale bonuses (like that bard who's still boasting about sleeping with all the villagers?).

Silent Image is considered a classic among illusionists.

    Silver Crusade

Since Prot Evil is Covered and in Fight direct Buffing with Wands is horrible (except Bless which you already have).
The Longer Duration Wands (like already mentioned) are usefull:
Mage Armor, Longstrider and Endure Elements are the to go Wands for Buffing.

I would use Wands in the Different kind of way and that's Utility:
Comprehend Languages - always know whats written
Mount - No more Disable Device for Traps needed
Magic Missile - When you really need to hit and the Enemy is almost Dead
Infernal Healing - Best OoC Heal
    etc etc

    Sovereign Court

They can be on any list since I have high UMD.

I had not thought of that use for Vanish. That is hilarious. Have to try it.

Mostly thinking of buffing before fights, but if there is a good one for during that is great.

Bless is a good wand because caster level only affects duration, which is in minutes.

Heightened Awareness is good for you, +4 to initiative every fight near enough.

    Wand of Lead Blades
    Wand of Gravity Bow
    Wand of True Strike

Obscuring Mist: Used mainly as a sort of leveling field for -
Creatures that can do Greater Darkness at Will
Creatures that are hard hitting and have Reach
Invisible Creatures that use a lot of hit&run tactics
Creatures with Ranged Attacks that fly
    etc.

These are not 1st level but can be very useful -

    See Invis
    Glitterdust
    Lesser Restoration

In order of preference, excluding spells already mentioned:
    Shield
    Lucky number
    Ant haul
    Goodberry
Blessing of the watch (situationally much better than bless)
    Hide from undead
    Magic stone
    Bullet shield
    Certain grip
    Abeyance

If your character will be venerating Milani and using Good Hope cast from memory (3rd level bard spell allowed to Milani's clergy) or the Beacon of Hope feat (Milani only, requires 3d6 channel) then Moment of Greatness is a great wand.

Moment of Greatness will give each member of your party an additional +3 Morale bonus modifier on a roll (if they are under Good Hope) or additional +2 modifier (if they affacted by the Beacon of Hope feat) per wand charge. I've generally seen it most helpful for Saving Throws, critical confirmation rolls and combat maneuvers.

Based purely on the gold piece price and not prestige cost if you will not be using a spell at least 30 times in your career it is more cost effective to get scrolls. Things like Blessing of the Watch and Ant Haul are AMAZING on a level 1 scroll. Scrolls with a single spell also have better action economy since they never need to be put away after activation.

Ill Omen is a great wand if you can make the UMD check.

When you can use Ill Omen with a readied action it cannot be removed with a Move Action before inconveniencing an opponent. Forcing a reroll and forcing the lower result to be used can be especially helpful versus nasty special attacks (like a dog's bite/trip attack at low level) as well as defensive casting.

Be warned though that while Ill Omen is a curse spell it's also a mind affecting spell.

As a second level spell it is a bit more expensive, but Wild Instinct is useful, especially at 8 hours a pop. Less useful if no one ever sleeps rough.

Good spells, but can't be used to buff party members.

I've been using the first 2 recently with a level 2 Ranger who has Cleave, a Greatsword, a Masterwork Strength Bow, and Precise Shot. They have been working out quite well for her.

But it is fair to say I didn't read the OP closely enough to realize he is asking for wands to buff the party with, not just buffing wands in general.

    Silver Crusade

Depending on your strength, Ant Haul could be useful.

    Sovereign Court

I like Prot. Evil... u can pass that around to people and the spell doesnt benefit that much from levelling

Feather step - in case you get stuck somewhere in a jungle

produce flame - if you run out of spells does one more pt on average than magic missile and you can attack with it at 120 feet

air bubble - can get you through clouds etc.

comp languages - scrolls are prob better, but u will have it forever.

long arm - its personal, but it means you can stand 5 more feet away if you need to buff/heal. if you have others that have umd its a good buff to have
