I have posted on each of the upcoming Gen Con adventures’ product pages—both for Season 7 and Season 8 adventures—with a list of what existing map products each one uses. I am also posting that information here in its entirety. If you are a Gen Con GM running one or more of these upcoming adventures, please check the respective spoiler for map information. Also note the following:

— The Honor’s Echo quest tables at Gen Con will have maps provided by Paizo.

Thanks John! This helps a lot!

    7-27 and 8-02:

Wait, so 8-02 uses the map from Azlant Ridge but the one with Azlant Ridge in the title doesn't? Weird.

Ah, I caught that on the product pages but not here. It should be fixed now.

I found it on the product's page:

    7-98 Serpent's Ire :

•Custom half-page map (large scale for navigation, not tactical combat)

    •Custom half-page map (tactical, 5-foot squares)

•Map Pack: Starship Chambers (so excited for this one)

    •Flip-Mat: Noble Estate

13 different maps for the multi-tier special? Do all tiers need all the maps or are the encounter sites different depending on tier? If the former, is there time to visit all those maps? If the latter, can we get the map list broken out by tier so the GMs know which ones they'll need? Otherwise it could be quite expensive to obtain all the necessary maps.

    Regarding #8–00 maps:

The adventure has some similarities to #6–00: Legacy of the Stonelords, insomuch as the PCs get to decide to choose what route they take to reach a goal. There are several maps that everyone will use (Hill Country and Tech Dungeon)) and others that everyone has a good chance of using (Cave Chambers, Evil Ruins, and Twisting Caverns). The others are split between several different possible routes.

That is to say the maps are broken up by route, not by subtier.

I'm not running 8-00, but it seems to me that out of fairness, if we are suggesting the GMs have $195 in maps to deliver an A+ experience, then we really should be charging more for those slots and compensating the GMs with either more store credit and/or free maps. Just a thought for next year.

There are alternatives to buying the maps. A single roll of gaming paper is $4 plus shipping with a bit extra for some markers, and will likely cover all the maps for the special and then some. Buying the maps may be the easiest option, but it is not the only option.

I didn't say it was the only option. But I was referring to the numerous times GMs are asked to bring their "A game" to Gen Con, and that the definition of "A game" by many people includes not having hand-drawn maps. I remember Mike Brock posting that he would rather see someone using the wrong printed map than a hand-drawn map at a con. I personally don't think that is a fair standard, but it is a standard I've seen other people espouse, and have felt the peer pressure of it. When I GMed at Gen Con 2 years ago, I had someone trying to force their printed map on me when they saw I had a hand-drawn map, but I refused because I had props that took the place of many of the decorations on the map, which absolutely was the right call when one of the props was a taxidermied dinosaur.

Anyway, I would be happy to pay more per ticket if it helped the GMs prepare for these big events in style.

Printing the various pages of map pack could be cheaper, I am currently in the process of printing all the map packs and custom maps used for my convention... cutting out 10 sets of a map pack... takes time.

What would it take to have a link to a page on the web site with a printable letter that gives permission to print the PDFs we purchase for personal use? Every time I go to Fed-Ex/Kinkos to print a map I have to search the website for the one reference in the FAQ page and email that link to Fed-Ex, then help them search the page again to find the permission reference because they won't keep the page on file.

Just a link to a formal letter saying that we have permission to print a copy for personal use instead of a bullet hidden in the rather huge FAQ page. It would really help if I could just print an official permission letter because they won't accept a screen captured print of the section of the FAQ.

If you are running 7-99, Paizo just put the map pack you need on "clearance" for $3!
(Probably not the best business decision, considering how many people will want it this year.)

Alas, I already ordered mine through my local game store. :(

Figures. The adventure I'm running (9-01) is "still in development". Well I hope it develops so that I can use some of my Dwarven Forge dungeon tiles. Or maybe something I could easily create some terrain for.

Thanks for the update (and tread necromancy).

Thank you for this list, John. Please update us as the other scenarios being offered finish in development! I, for one, am interested to see what maps are being used in the Specials other than 8-99, since I am running all of them.

On the Starfinder Quests do we need to have the maps or are those provided?

    Grand Lodge 5/5 Venture-Captain, Arizona—Phoenix aka TriOmegaZero

For the Starfinder Quests, it depends on which table you are assigned. Square table GMs are being provided all materials needed, Round table GMs must prepare all materials required to run.

    Liberty's Edge 3/5 Venture-Captain, Nebraska—Omaha

Ah. That's right. I forgot that. I am doing square all weekend.

I just need the basic Starfield map for 1-00 but is not available until
    Aug 17th.

No way can I get to go buy one at the con.

If you have a regular hex mat (like the Chessex double-sided mats) you can use that. It just won't look as pretty.

I'm just gonna shell out for the Paizo version - I've found those tolerate more different kinds of markers, and that convenience is worth something to me.

Would be neat if Paizo made a hex mat for Pathfinder/Kingmaker purposes as well.

    Grand Lodge 5/5 Venture-Captain, Arizona—Phoenix aka TriOmegaZero

I don't expect to have to draw anything on this one. If I were to run more locally, I might pick it up. But for one weekend, the old mats should work fine.

Maps Appearing in Pathfinder Society Scenario #9–01: The Cost of Enlightenment:

  • Flip-Mat: Seedy Tavern
  • Map Pack: Desert Sites
  • Maps Appearing in Pathfinder Society Scenario #9–03: On the Border of War:

  • Flip-Mat: Flooded Dungeon
  • Map Pack: Road System
  • Pathfinder Society Special #9–00 is the only adventure outstanding.

    Starfinder GMs
Paizo is providing maps for our several quest demo tables for each campaign (both House of Harmonious Wisdom and Into the Unknown). We're also bringing enough copies of Starfinder Flip-Mat: Basic Starfield and "Starfinder Flip-Mat: Basic Terrain" for all our GMs to use when we're running tables of the new Starfinder Quests on Thursday. These maps will be available to check out for later Starfinder games at Gen Con, so if you need to borrow a hex map for that weekend, we can help you. Note, however, that this only extends to the two Starfinder Flip-Mats, not to any Pathfinder Flip-Mats that appear in Starfinder Society scenarios.

  • Pathfinder Flip-Mat: Red Light District (sees a lot of use)
  • Pathfinder Flip-Mat Classics: Ship
  • That should represent the last of the map notes for the Gen Con 2017 adventures.

Development-wise, everything's moving along at a good pace so that our Gen Con Starfinder Society GMs should be seeing adventures land in their downloads at the end of this week. Pathfinder Society GMs should see their adventures landing in downloads next week. If something's done a little earlier, we'll drop it in download folders a little earlier.

All of the adventures debuting at Gen Con have a custom half-page map, two custom half-page maps, or a custom full-page map except Pathfinder Society Scenario #9–02 and the Starfinder Society quests.

Although it doesn't debut at Gen Con, note that #8–99 also does not have custom maps.
