I'll post a bit more about scenario specifics in the GM thread. For environmental factors, the ballroom seemed too loud and made it hard to hear TetsujinOni from across the way. Add in it being Sunday night and I just didn't engage. I know a lot of it was my own fault and I wanted to step away. I wasn't sure if that would ruin it for the rest of the table. (In hindsight, I should have taken the chance, since it happened anyway.) I'll put up more analysis later, after I have a relaxing time playing Hanabi with Jessica Price.

Yesterday was a good day. I'm trying to remember it all and I'm sure there are many things that I'll fail to recall, including names. Even though it was a blur, I know it was good.

Breakfast at the hotel, eating the Continental thing again. Went to bed at 3am and awake at 8amish and drug my ass down here because coffee is better than not coffee.

Actual text I got yesterday: "You doing the ACG non-stop or being social?" Yes, Will J from Fresno, aka Sarta, was giving me guff even though he wasn't here. And yes, all I pretty much did was play ACG all day yesterday.

ACG stuff:

I played in the Gobling ACG with Tanis, Nathan from Obsidian (the guy in charge of the tablet ACG), & new friend Kate B. It was a blast because the community made content that was designed for the game was amazing. It was a mixture of custom content/cards/pictures and regular Runelord cards. The goblin-themed cards were well done and incredibly thematic. The barriers were designed with goblins in mind like eating slugs fast (two Con/Fort checks because sometimes they come back up) and fermented apples or exploding fireworks, etc.

+1 to Tanis for 'approving' the designs and mechanics. +1 to Tyler Beck for writing and having fun with what ended up being a great game. Do you know how I know Cartmanbeck wrote the thing? Because there were numerous times when I wanted to blame Tanis for some ridiculous card or challenge she said: "Don't blame me, I didn't write this." Yeah, I heard that about 50 times.

Kate B. was a good meet yesterday. She's local to my region (SF) and just started PFS and playing at what used to be my old FLGS: Endgame. In addition, this was her first PaizoCon. Welcome to the community, Kate.

Before and after the Goblins game, I played Season of Runelords, Chapter/parts 2 and 3. We finished all 5 parts 2 and the 4 in part 3. 2-3B (the TickTockClock one) and 2-3C (someone was eating Guatamalan insanity peppers while they wrote this one, Curses Foiled Again?) are freakin' nuts, both conceptually and in execution. I played with Sarah B. (Lini) & Bryan B. (Another Druid build.). I continued to play my Oracle, Alahazra and loved every minute of it. We rocked it with 3 divine casters and lots of yelling and shouting and some rare instances of accidental teamwork.

My oracle is ready for tier 4 and her role card.

Social Random Stuff:

  • Saw longtime favorites Kyle & Nani Pratt. Man, they are amazing.

  • Finally met Haunted Jester, aka Darren C. He's an San Diego local. We had a good chat and we agreed that I'm right about everything, which was pretty sweet. He might even post to this thread when he gets back home.

  • Had an all-too-quick chat with Eric B of San Diego. Apparently I erred in not remembering that he's awesome and good to speak with because every time I do speak with him, I'm reminded of it.

  • From where I was sitting, I could watch the burning remnants of sanity and decorum evaporate from John Compton's Druma table as more and more liquor invaded the players. They were having a good time but was worried as the clock edged past 2am and they were still in the lobby.

  • Played a great and fun game of ACG Seaon of the Righteous with Todd Freakin' Morgan. We had Joshua at the table and our volunteer GM was Matt. Todd played the witch and demonstrated instant mastery of pretty much freakin' everything and owned the mechanics by the time we finished. He conned me into playing with him by doing the "I don't know what I'm doing" shtick, but it's clear he's either a natural master or was sandbagging me.

  • 'They' kicked us out of the game room at midnight, then out of the bar at 2amish after that. However the lobby had lots of places to chat and hang until all hours of the night. It was then that I re-met Brad and Laura from last year's PaizoCon. They could only make it to tonight and it was good to see them again.

  • Note for next year, @Painlord: In order of preference, the best noodle dishes from MangoThai (across the street) are: Pad Sei Ew/Kee Mao (tie for first), Pad Thai, & then Ba Mee. Need to try the Lad Nah and see where it fits. Also, 3 toasts to get the everything bagel to the right crispness in the hotel buffet.

  • One significant other went horseback riding all day yesterday, while another had a full day of hiking while their partners gamed. There are options for those that are temporary Con-Widow(ers).

I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot of stuff and will probably remember later today. Will try to get a post about the Starfinder panel here as well. I didn't go, but I know a few that might be willing to type up what they learned.

Oh yeah, I had about 20 tokens from my ACG play. I rolled 3 potential crits, confirming once. I walk away with 18 ACG boons and one class deck. The prize table has been good this year as well and the ACG specific boons for the Guild are nice and worthwhile.

There is a GM thread for Serpent's Ire in the GM forum. I encourage all the GMs who ran the event last night to visit the thread and provide feedback. I'm sure John will be reading responses to determine if any minor adjustments need to be made before GenCon. Even if not, the feedback could assist those running it at GenCon tips on prepping and what more challenging areas require extra attention.

Well all good things, unfortunately must come to an end. Last day, managed to get a couple more runs of the demo for Mummy's Mask completed and an instruction session on the ACG how to build an Character from a class deck for our very own Walter Sheppard.

I was extremely glad to see people I don't get to see very often as I have started to think of Paizocon as a family reunion. It was a great weekend and I was glad that our son Nathan had a great time at this first Paizocon.

Thank you to the HQ team and all their help. You guys really rocked!!

To the ACG volunteer team: You were a great bunch to work with and I for one think we did an awesome job this weekend. I would be honored to work with all of you again next year.

Thanks to the RPG GMs for all your hard work this year!!

To all those involved in the organization and planning of Paizocon 2016: All of you were fantastic and I thank you for all your hard work in bringing the event to us.

Thank you Painlord for keeping up the Paizocon tradition of this thread. You are awesome!!

Last but not least, I want to thank F Wesley Schneider for all of your valuable advice on Second Darkness.

See you in 2017 (some may be sooner)!!

Personally, I had a BLAST!

This was my first EVER Con and it was even better than I had dared to hope. Although I was "chained" to a wheelchair, due to a broken bone in my right foot, I still was able to get around (abet with some occasional help) and perform the volunteer duties I was doing. My husband and I were brand new to being at Cons, yet we both really enjoyed meeting new people and play-types.

I usually have 13 to 16 year old people at my table, so I simply applied my normal rules to this as well. I asked for, and generally got, no cussing at my table, everyone having a chance to talk and plan, and focused gameplay. Breaks were whenever anyone needed one and they cleaned up after themselves nicely.

I ran #7-19: Labyrinth of Hungry Ghosts for Friday morning and evening; #7-18: Faithless and Forgotten Part 3 on Saturday, Sunday and Monday mornings; and the Sunday evening special, #7-98: Serpent's Ire.

For my first Con, I didn't know quite what to expect from my fellow GMs, so I was pleasantly surprised at the enormous amount of help, teaching, and advice I was given by the "Old Hands" that were around me. I would love to thank them by name, but my recollections of most names of GMs and Players is a bit hazy. The GMs at Gunslinger tables on Friday (all day) that surrounded my Gunslinger 8 table were terrific! Please, email your name to me! Also, I had the most awesome time and help from the Bard 6 and 14 tables when my husband and I were both on Bard 13 and 9, respectively, on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

The players at my tables were very understanding of my memory blanks, hazy rule recollections, and and general "huh?" moments.

The hotel staff were great! We didn't stay on-site because we couldn't afford it, but next year we are! Especially if we can find some roommates to help pay for it. Parking was not fun and we were not aware of the parking fee. Luckily, we could use the code that Paizo had negotiated. That was extremely helpful.

I think that having more games for younger gamers ready and on the schedule would be helpful. Maybe some of our younger players or adults would be willing to have a couple of rooms set aside for that level of gaming? My son is 13 1/2 yo right now, and he could run some Society games, board games, card games, etc. for 8 to 12 year olds. Or at least keep an eye on them.

Now, to answer the above questions:

Post about whom you've met and where they are from.
I had players from Northern Quebec, Australia, and all over the USA. We live in Longview, WA, so we only had to drive 2 hours one-way.

Post about the games you're playing in, with whom, and fun details. (Avoid spoilers...and use spoiler tags if you're going to spoil!)
My games were fun and very different from each other. My first table of Part 3 finished in less than 2 hours. The other two of Part 3 took longer. Labyrinth was good, but the evening one wasn't so great. I don't think a bar available to gamers in the main room was a good idea. Quite a few players were getting quite loud, rude, and belligerent. Not as family-friendly as I, personally, prefer. The special seemed to not flow very easily and needed more than 5 hours to play through.

Post about extraPFSular activities.
I only attended 1 other thing at the Con besides my 6 GM slots. That was the Crafting Circle. I really hope more people attend next year! It was fun, a lot of fun actually, but a slightly more organized arrangement might have increased the fun even more. I love the free pattern!

Generally, everyone was nice and polite and fun to be around.

I was hoping to make contact with people who would like to have me make unique craft items, but I couldn't find anywhere to set up a tiny display. Maybe next year I can have a table or something where I can place a few ideas/possible products and a catalog?

The store on-sight could have offered a 10% discount on the last day to keep from having to haul it all back, but otherwise was really great. Having the Reaper reps there was a nice touch, although they could have brought more colors of paint for the free painting and miniatures that were offered. But hey, who am I to question free things? More product that is needed for the scenarios being used in the main room to be available would be a wonderful idea... they ran out of maps and map packs for the special.

I got to meet some very interesting, unique and fun people, so I count my weekend, just as a gathering, as an A+++.

Next year, we will definitely be attending and will try to bring friends as well.

I hope to hear from all of you soon!

This was not my best PaizoCon...

Some highlights were:
Blake Davis - he's awesome. Playing games was super fun.
Liz Courts - her game was the highlight of the con. It did only go downhill from there as far as role play tables went

Some low points:
Once again the special was not great. I left feeling very disappointed with the entire experience.
There were less familiar faces this year. This made me sad.

Further reflections later when I have time to step away from my feelings.

PaizoCon went well. I had the pleasure of connecting and reconnecting with Painlord, Kevin Willis (Texas), Thurston Hillman, Kyle and Nani Pratt, Eric Brittain, Jenny and Jon Cary, Jesse Davis (thanks for doing the heavy lifting in the Running Online RPGs panel), Isabelle Lee, Nathan King, Justin Riddler, and many more. A few highlights:

  • The Season 0 Reborn lottery game went really well. The players were brilliant and bought into each roleplaying situation, making for some of the best in-game banter I've experienced in a good while.
  • During Golarionender, a quartet of utterly ruthless mythenders Ended Asmodeus with the help of the holiest of goblin relics: the First Pickle. All hail the new god of cuteness and joy, Gnomey!
  • Most of Druma Lodge reunited with our newest convert, staff accountant Ashley Kaprielian. After a late start, we wrapped up at 3:30 am following blood—so much blood. Nothing quite measures up to the antics of Nani and Thursty as the former tries in vain (but with amusement) to keep the latter focused, and Thursty just wanders off and starts causing trouble.
  • The Running Intrigue Games seminar culminated in a really fun brainstorming session for a hypothetical intrigue game involving a scheming princess, a sleeping evil, an unscrupulous mercantile operation comprised of doppelgangers, a green dragon, a succubus, and more. Despite being an ecclectic hodgepodge of elements provided by the audience, the adventure sounded like it would be a lot of fun, both to write and to play.
  • The delves this year were great. Killing Eric Brittain's Merisiel with "eye leeches" before attempting to convert Ezren to the friendless void of the a mothman's schemes was great. Later that day, I ran Isabelle Lee, Nathan King, and Jon and Jenny Cary through a hilarious rendition of a goblin raid that included Merisiel attempting to sabotage Valeros's efforts in order to earn the favor of a local authority, Ezren performing a daring rescue, and Kyra invoking an obscure deity who never answered her pleas (so the dice suggested).
  • Although the trivia contest was supposed to test the participants' knowledge, I learned, to my chagrin, that I apparently have eight children—at least that is what the winning team "Sons of John Compton" seemed to imply with their name.

For those of you flying out tonight and tomorrow, travel safely and thanks for coming to Seattle.

Done with everything! Powernap complete. Final day went as expect with a good level of organized mayhem. By 2 PM all the reporting was completed (thanks to Cam), all of HQ was broken down, and we were basically out the door. Brief shoutout to Preston for running me through my first official PFACG game and showing me the ropes. Looking forward to bringing the game local and seeing how my players like it. I have a hunch it'll be well received :)

Eight hungry participants took part in the post-PaizoCon food ritual, and was well worth the wait. For the uninitiated, this ritual involves visiting a cheaper Chinese restaurant after closing out PaizoCon and gorging ourselves on their excessive portioning. This is the 3rd year in a row we've gotten "our" table at China Star (it's the far circular one) and their bounty of shrimp was both plentiful and delicious.

Next year I think I'll mix it up and stay at the hotel for a change--it'll give me a chance to better follow the antics of all these crazies that are gaming until the wee morning hours. Also when I ask the hotel staff for complimentary cookies, I'll be doing so honestly :D

I came, I saw, I gamed, I ate at Sharp's (three times), had a surprising number of games with Allen and Barb (fun times), ran a mid slot, introduced the concept of Otyugh based waste disposal systems to the rules team for Starfinder, leveled up a couple of characters, laughed, cheered, met lots of cool fellow gamers, met for the final drink of con, got renamed Brad by Painlord, and created an unnecessarily long rambling grammatically incorrect run-on sentence.

    Cons are exhausting.

    Cons are fun.

Woot! We didn't die, and we even did our best to try to metagame and set up all of Seasons 2 through 5!

Done. Keith expanded more than a bit about the busking idea. He is excited to strap on his drumming shoes and he mentions that you're an amazing clog dancer while quoting pre-Starfall pugwumpi poetry.

I'll want video of that. Plzthxbai.

Come to SkalCon, and I'll clogdance and recite pre-Starfall pugwumpi poetry (in translation) for you. Heck, we can maybe we can make it a fundraising strech goal. By the way, if you find Keith's beard too hypnotic, you can donate money to see it shaved off there.

We do plan to take video as Keith gets shorn!

    Hmm

For me, a lot of the time was spent talking to people, and a lot of those people were you guys, PFSers of all stripes and from around the world. First World Problems and Anagnorisis both went extremely well, and as John mentioned, the Running Intrigue Adventures panel worked out really well (I was worried that we might not have the timing right, but everyone, audience and panelists, really nailed it; mad props to John, Linda, and Jason Keeley). I had slightly more panels and fewer delves than last year, and both panels and delves were a lot of fun. You guys asked some really great questions this year. We had a fun banquet table with a lot of great stories...

All in all, a solid Paizocon all around!

I also feel like I met less people than last year, and I feel a little sadder for it.

Painlord runs a mean Alahazra, by the way. I too like Mango Thai.

Preston did a great job running the ACG portion, it was very smooth. One thing I forgot: 2 tables ran through scenarios of Adventure 3 and that's amazing!

Thanks for the kudos but I could not have done it without the rest of the ACG volunteer team. As I mentioned in my previous post, I would be honored if I was given the opportunity to work with the team we had this year next year.

The primary different thing I did this PaizoCon was take a nap nearly every afternoon, except for Saturday, which is the day that I went to bed early. This means I only GMed or played (honestly, mostly GMed) two games each day. (Well, OK, I GMed one and played two on Monday, but the two were after the con was nominally over.)

I think this helped my enjoyment of the con. I am a little sad I didn't jump in and play more games, but having the downtime and the extra naps was well worth it. Despite being personable (I've been told this) and interacting easily with other people, I am an introvert, in that I find being around other people (and especially in loud crowded con rooms) exhausting, and I eventually need to withdraw to recharge.

Paizocon was fun. I only had one player at the eight tables I GMed (including two pre-con Thursday tables) that outright irritated me, and only a few that made me internally roll my eyes. Most of them were really cool and a lot of fun to play with.

From what I observed, PFS HQ was run incredibly well. Yeah, they were a bit behind printing stuff on the first day (partly due to equipment overheating issues from the previous day), but they caught up well in time, and thereafter they were extraordinarily on top of things. Props to the folks in orange.

I should probably go to a voice coach to figure out how to talk very loudly (basically, shout) so as to be heard in the PFS room every day without being incredibly hoarse by Sunday. I always wonder if there isn't something that could be done to seriously mitigate the positive feedback loop of escalating sound in there.
