As some of you know, Drop Dead Studios is producing a series of expansions for the Spheres of Power alternate magic system, each expanding upon a single sphere. Having gotten much feedback on the Destruction sphere expansion, I return to humbly present the alteration sphere expansion for you to tear to bloody shreds that it may be improved.
Shapeshifter's Handbook

Hold nothing (pertinent) back. Thanks for all your help.

>Shapeshifter's Handbook

MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

You have no idea how much I'm looking forward to this. XD I'll give it a look-see once I have some free time.

Thank you SOOOOO much for the object transformation! I look forward to make a protean shifter!

Liberty's Edge

Great to hear that people are excited about it!

Alteration is easily one of my favorite Spheres, so... "excited" is one way to put it. XD

Yeah, between this and the Destruction handbook, my two favorite Sphere's are getting nice upgrades.

I am partial to them both myself.

Obviously.

Good to see some free shapeshifting stuff. ;)

Hmm, looks like some nice material for a villain I'm working on for my own game...experimentalist looks to fit their concept well, as does many of the new talents. Looking forward to the final product.

The monk archetype could use some ki functionality with its transformation in some way. Something to spice it up a bit.

Hmm, I'll think about it. Not sure how that would work with trying to keep it open to both monk and unmonk.

(Sorry for the slow response, been a busy week)

Well, wordier archetypes tend to say, "this is for unchained, this is for normal." Maybe they just replace some ki powers at certain levels for chained and unchained gets them in place of normal ki powers?

Maybe a bit late of this, but ever consider making additional Elemental Form options for Wood and Metal? (Or maybe just Wood?)

I'm very happy to see this book in good hands. You've done a lot more with it than I was able to.

I'll take a look at it when I get a chance. I was trying to keep it fairly compact, but there might be something I can do.

Elemental Transformation is already pretty strong. I would have to look up wood and metal elementals, but I suppose a feat could work? Plant kind of covers wood and construct has elements you might want in metal.

It has been a fun book to write. Your ideas are all still in there. Have to get with Adam to see about the appropriate way to credit you.

yeah basically paizo does "this replaces X, or the ki power at X level if you are playing an unchained monk

I'm not too worried. I didn't contribute much and this is obviously your baby. Good work!

Made some significant revision to the Experimentalist Thaumaturge. Will be reviewing the levels the Resizer Mageknight gets its abilities at next.

Reaching the last stretch of the playtest. Per suggestions, I have added the ability for the beastsoul monk to take alteration talents in place of ki powers (or swap ala Quingong for the chained monk). Trying to take care of a few remaining points regarding the fusion advanced talent and allowing it to be more of a buff as well as allowing companion merger to work in the opposite direction.

I'm trying to catch you before going to print.

Under Star-Spawn Transformation, the prereq is Aberrant Transformation. The talent is called Aberrant Body. One of those should probably be changed.

So... just to make sure I'm not missing something, I'm looking at this and came up with a concept that could be quite powerful. By 10th level and with Advanced Talents allowed, you could (as far as I can tell) take Permanent Transformation and Fusion, the Pack Master Shifter archetype, two drawbacks (make sure neither of them prevent your casting from being purely mental) and the Easy Focus Boon, and a few other talents (I'd suggest something from Enhancement, and some Life, as well as a form or two: use Drawbacks as necessary to gain bonus talents). This should allow you to:

Permanently fuse with your companion, adding a few other traits at the same time.
Gain tons of benefits for fusing, including almost doubling your hit points.
Allow your companion to be in control and do the fighting while you sit back and use purely mental actions (handling your companion is a free action).
Use those purely mental actions to cast and concentrate on things like Enhancement effects to boost your companion.
Use Life sphere every round after using the above (and as necessary) to grant temporary hit points to cover any you've lost the last round.

It's not necessary to be 10th level to do some of this, but the Permanent Transformation makes it much easier to make it an all-day thing. You'd basically become a powerhouse on the battlefield... tons of hit points, a second set of spellcasting actions to augment your companion, and the ability to take over yourself if you really need to, for complex actions that an animal can't handle.

And now that I think about it, Shifter isn't even necessary if you can get a good companion from another class and use the same stuff.

Am I missing anything here, or is this as awesome as it sounds?

The Shapeshifter's Handbook was just released on PDF yesterday.

When will it be available here at Paizo?

Here are two other sources for the Alteration sphere handbook: Paizo Store and Open Gaming Store

That would be a powerful combination. It does require two advanced talents though, both of which require your GM's permission. If the combination is problematic at your table I would recommend not allowing fusion to be made permanent. Your companion's saves might be limiting as well, since in this example I believe you are using the companion as the dominant body, though you could go the other way, depending on what physical characteristics you wanted to use.

Speaking of Bound Creature, it states that if you pay 4 drawbacks rather than 2, your Bound Creature becomes a Dragon, as the Halfling Dragonrider class feature.

Does this means that your Bound Creature gains " Avian Creature
talent (gaining wings), as well as the Armored Companion, Fortified
Companion, Quick Companion, Powerful Companion Conjuration,
and the Draconic Creature talents" as well the HD and skills increase + Breath weapon?

Seems a bit powerful for a Boon, actually. And it was an upgrade to an already great Boon.

Ooh, nice! I forgot to keep an eye out for that one. More shapeshifty fun times. :)

You also get the action limitations, requiring you to spend actions to maintain your link with the dragon. I also believe Adam has said you are not intended to be able to upgrade the dragon via conjuration talents as you go. Still pretty darn nice though.

Wish the dragon's chart was included for that.

Which chart? The action progression is detailed over in the halfling dragonrider cavalier archetype, but I don't recall there being a table for it.

I suppose I guessed there was a chart. Most companion classes have one, and since all I can find is RGG's dragonrider base class...

Probably a space-saving measure. A chart would be the normal conjuration companion chart with the focus action progression and size increase added.
