Since I'm doing it before flying out there, no. :P

And it is four birthdays. Blomquist shares my birthday (but no where near my age). Heck, I have been gaming longer than he's been alive...

Well, considering you were born near the best day possible, I think I can give you some cake.

This is it! We are down to the last days before Skal Con 2016.

Everything is coming together. Dice are secured. Floor plans laid out. Boxes for food donations acquired. Only a few typical last minute things to do.

Nervous excitement!

Agghhh! Aghhhh! *runs around in panic*

SkalCon:
Somebody once told me the dice are gonna roll me
I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed
She was looking kind of dumb with her finger and her thumb
In the shape of an "L" on her forehead

Well the years start coming and they don't stop coming
Fed to the rules and I hit the ground running
Didn't make sense not to live for fun
Your brain gets smart but your head gets dumb
So much to do, so much to see
So what's wrong with taking the back streets?
You'll never know if you don't go
You'll never shine if you don't glow

Hey now, it's SkalCon, get your game on, go play
Hey now, it's SkalCon, get the show on, fundraise!
And all that glitters ain't gold
Only shooting stars break the mold

It's a cool place and they say it gets colder
You're bundled up now, wait till you get older
But the Minnesota crew beg to differ
Judging by the hole in the funding picture
The ice we skate is getting pretty thin
The water's getting warm so you might as well swim
My world's on fire, how about yours?
That's the way I like it and I never get bored

Hey now, it's SkalCon, get your game on, go play
Hey now, it's SkalCon, get the show on, fundraise!
All that glitters ain't gold
Only shooting stars break the mold

Hey now, it's SkalCon, get your game on, go play
Hey now, it's SkalCon, get the show on, fundraise!
And all that glitters ain't gold
Only shooting stars

Somebody once asked could I spare some change for gas?
I need to get myself away from this place
I said yep what a concept
I could use a little fuel myself
And we could all use a little change

Well, the years start coming and they don't stop coming
Fed to the rules and I hit the ground running
Didn't make sense not to live for fun
Your brain gets smart but your head gets dumb
So much to do, so much to see
So what's wrong with taking the back streets?
You'll never know if you don't go (go!)
You'll never shine if you don't glow

Hey now, it's SkalCon, get your game on, go play
Hey now, it's SkalCon, get the show on, fundraise
And all that glitters ain't gold
Only shooting stars break the mold

And all that glitters ain't gold
Only shooting stars break the mold

With apologies to Gregory Camp...

If there's any consolation, you're not prepping it within the first two weeks of release prior to the inaugural presentation? Anything I can help with? (ran 3-4 at GenCon...)

That's actually a thought that might merit bringing up prior to next year's GenCon.

Not sure when it'd fit in, as folks are running around like crazy getting the con working, but I would have *gladly* dumped my Scotty's play experience for the chance to talk to fellow GMs and get a better idea of how Captive was supposed to roll, for example.

Looking at SKAL, though, is it fair to be *nervous* about playing it (albeit at a different tier) after having *run* a table for that beast?

Cosmic Captive looks like a beast regardless of which side of the screen you are on.

I think it's fair to be nervous. As a player at GenCon, there was a lot happening in terms of special effects and items. Granted, my table at GenCon pubstomped the entire thing so we didn't have to worry about things too much. I was a part of the Captain Planet table if you heard us.

My experience has always been that playing the special is less work than running it, but your character will be tested for endurance. This one may prove me wrong however. (And Sky Key Solution certainly skulldrug my party at RinCon.)

Aside from the intrinsic value of bringing a kobold to the party, I'm curious if Cosmic Captive would be an entertaining choice for my pregen kobold boon. Having already done Sewer Dragons that is not an option.

Also SKAL CON is the best!!!!!!!!!

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/55/55/55/5 **** Venture-Captain, Minnesota

I think you'd have more value bringing a kobold to 0700, Sky Key Solution, then you would to 0800, Cosmic Captive.

Have you already used your GM star, Davor?

I swapped my special ticket over to 10-11 just for the hell of it. Hopefully a 9th level Oracle won't be out of place.

Dark Archive 4/5 5/55/5

I haven't, so I could use it on Sewer Dragons. I'd just rather not given I've so many unplayed scenarios and while the people who did Sewer Dragons had a blast, surely there are other ways to get a lot of fun mileage out of that boon. Stolen Heir comes to mind as one where being Evil might be fun :)

Don't be silly. All PCs can die in this scenario equally.

Hey everyone!

A reminder we are sponsoring a food drive for Tubman this year and, naturally, we have a few incentives for you.

For every food item you bring, you will receive a bonus:

1-5 food items equals a +1 to +5 on a re-roll once per session.

Thus, if you bring in three cans of vegetables Friday night, you will receive a +3 to one re-roll every session you play all weekend.

(note: This will not stack with yer GM Star bonus re-roll; use which ever is higher)

If you bring in more than five food items, you will receive a bonus to the Aid Another action! If you bring in fifteen food items, the first five go to the re-roll, and the next ten go to the Aid Another bonus for a bonus of +10 to one Aid Another once per session. This is not in addition to, but substitutes for the normal +2. Again, for every food item over five, your Aid Another bonus equals the number of food items over five.

Lets bring a lot of food, people! Tubman's Transitional Housing is full and their new Youth Center has been full since it opened this year. The need is great and we can make a real, positive difference in someone's life.

* Please bring non-perishable food items for donation. Desired items are things like canned fruits, vegetables, soup, and dry goods (pasta, rice, etc.). As always with food items, we can only accept unopened items in their original packaging.*

You're thinking about it too much - specials are not nearly as difficult as they appear on paper. Knowing where we want to focus our effort just makes them even easier!

Listen to the overseer's announcements, and far, far more importantly - keep us on task and not goofing around too much. You'll do fine.

I think I've panicked (see above) just before I've run each Special the first time.

Every.
Time.

MisterSlanky's right — they always appear more daunting than they actually turn out to be. Do your best, try to give your table a great time, and pretty soon you'll be wondering why you fretted so much. :-)
