GM Arkwright's Repeated Rise of the Badger Lord

Recruitment

Wotcher,

My first attempt at running this game has failed due to player disappearances, but I've been watching some Daredevil recently so I'm feeling the urge to get right back up again. I will be running a homebrew adventure, designed to be finished in a single IRL session, which I came up with for my home game awhile ago. I will be requiring at least half of my players to use my homebrew archetypes. I will be only a tiny bit fussy about role-coverage; play what you want to play. I will be recruiting until I have four good applications. I will require one post per week-day and one post per weekend. Looking forward to having some fun. If (and hopefully when) we complete this adventure, I have three more in this questline to follow if everybody would like to continue.

Intro:
It has been six months since you and the rest of your adventuring party captured a prisoner, knocked her unconscious and threw her atop a badger warren to be devoured as a sacrifice to the mighty Badger Lords on a whim. Five months since a strange, stocky man with white-and-black hair approached you with a small and a written message, the letter saying that the Badger Lord himself saw your sacrifice and is willing to accept your service. Four months since you joined the Pathfinder Society. Now, another message- different from the ones which so often precede your Pathfinder missions with small requests and quests- has arrived under your door. The Badger Lord calls you to a tavern with the sign of the Dancing Devil in the Chelish city of Egorian, promising a reward for a deed well-done. With your fellow disciples, you ready yourself for travel.

Character Creation:
Level 3
Any alignment
Max HD at first level, half rounded up therafter
Any core races + Aasimar and Tiefling
Standard WBL
Any paizo except Unchained, plus my homebrew
Two traits, one can be any relevant campaign trait, no drawbacks
No crafting
I may be ignoring a few erratas; off the top of my head, Crane Wing works as it did previously.
All PCs will be Badger Lord disciples and so will receive a potion each mission granting them the Ferocity monster ability

Character Creation:
I need Character Name, Race, Class, Alignment, three lines of backstory, one line of personality and one line of description. No need to create a new alias or sheet at this point. I have no issue with alias recycling.

My Homebrew

I realize it's an odd mission, and odd to insist on use of my homebrew, so I fully expect some questions. I'll explain more of the Badger Lord story once we have people recruited.

Elon Vasilis
Aasimar
Cleric (Mystic Sage archetype)
Neutral Good
Elon was raised in Absolom in the shadow of Pathfinder Grand Lodge, where he works as a religious advisor for the Society.
Elon is a kind man, eager to help others, yet the impromptu decision to sacrifice that prisoner to the Badger Lord still haunts him.
Elon is a handssome, tall young man, with strong features, iridescent eyes, and an inner light that sometimes shines in the darkness.

Works, needs a little fleshing out.

Echo
Human
Sorcerer: cross-blooded(primal/orc)
Chaotic neutral

Personality: very full of himself, thinks he is the smartest, but will help friends in need

Description: high burst freeze mage with some control elements

I'll work on backstory a bit after reading the homebrew stuff

Leadra Hellion
Tiefling(Div-Spawn) Dawn Dancer Bard 1
Neutral Evil

Backstory:
The Hellion family predates the rise of the Thrune regime but that mattered little in a world where Tieflings were not accepted by anyone. With the rise of House Thrune the Hellion family saw a chance to rise from the shadows and pledge their loyalty to the Thrune

Personality: Cruel and harsh yet not unfair. Leadra enjoys seeing others suffer... especially hen the suffering is their own fault.

Description: Blonde Hair Blue Eyes... 5'2"... built like a dancer. Tiefling traits are small horns, elf like ears and a prehensile tail...

Auroyx Urji
Half Orc-White Haired Magnus
CN

Having been raised by his mother in the port town of Dejaro, Auroyx displayed an odd talent of being able to manipulate his hair. After some discussion of Grandma, the young half orc set out to discover more about his heritage.
Personality-A quiet lad, with a dislike of talking due to his tusks.
Description- A mountainous figure, his orc ancestry comes out clearly in his hulking 6'7" frame, canines touching the bottom of his lip, with a long dreads coming off his head onto his back.

Sorry if it's wrong, still kinda new to this

All good, Hawks. If new, I might warn away from my magus archetype; it's probably my most complicated.

Could I get a roll call of people still interested?

I just came across this...so maybe? What the heck is the Badger Lord, though?

Something to be more completely explained when accepted.

Gotcha. Still seems interesting. I'll get something up tomorrow!

Dark Archive

I'll be interested maybe ninja with Assassin Prestige?

Putting up a human sacrifice seems evil, so that alignment seems right for it.

"Hey Ferb, I know what we're going to be doing next."

Dark Archive

3k gold to start?

Dark Archive

Rafik Rousseau
Neutral Evil
Human Ninja

6'6" dark-skinned male. Katana at his left side, bow over right shoulder. Black hair in afro style.

Background and personality: Having grown up in Cheliax, he has become as cruel and looking out for number one as the stories are about Chelaxians.

His parents died. Rafik suspects it's from some devious plan, but never proven and no one really cares to figure it out.

Rafik grew up doing jobs of a certain nature. With the reputation of getting the job done. Doesn't matter to him what the job is. If others are needed, so be it, but he doesn't rely on them.

Hmm, would a hunter work? I could redo some of the backstory to fit, if that's a better fit.

Hawks, probably, up to you.

I've read your Mystic Warrior archetype and I must say I like it.

Depending on the domains chosen I can picture a knowledgeable warrior that at higher levels can imbue different elements and essences through his weapon, becoming an avatar of the Gods. It reminds me a bit of WoW shamans, and I like it.

I will submit a character soon!
I have only a single question about said Archetype: your wording confuse me on the level 1 domain,do I get an extra domain on top of the already chosen by the Inquisitor at level 1 or just one at level 1 and the rest at the specified levels?

Two domains at level 1.

Florian Abeez, Aasimar, Cleric Evangelist, of Lamashtu, Neutral Evil.

Born into a minor noble family in Taldor, Florian was the image of perfection, adored by all; But your family find you flaying one peasant, boy... Sent away in disgrace to a Temple of Iomedae from which he was dismissed following the mysterious death of a half dozen horses. Since then he has travelled speaking out against the "falsehoods" of the gods with veiled words. He was soon approached by the Cultists of Lamashtu and embraced the faith with fervour. Although the others probably don't really know it he was, in his own mind at least, the true instigator of the sacrifice, sowing the seeds with careful questions, and feeding the fires of madness.

Florian loves and hates his own beauty, and revels in the paradox, he believes that he can twist anyone to his will given enough time and the right words. He prefers to keep his dark motives hidden and act as the voice of reason guiding others subtly towards his own ends.

Florian is almost too perfect, tan ideal form, blond, slender, with a dazzling smile and brilliant blue eyes. But his perfection can be a little unsettling, as if he were produced from a mold rather than a womb.

Another question popped up in my mind, Arkwright: if I am a Mystic Warrior with the Mystic Combat feat, is it possible to use the Conductive ability paired with the feat for a pseudo Spell Combat like the Magus one?

Emis, i'd need a better definition than 'pseudo-spell combat'; but probably, yes.

I mean, with Conductive you can channel domain powers through weapon attacks and with Mystic Combat you can use domain powers during a full attack, at a -2 penalty to every attack roll in the round.

With pseudo-spell combat I meant using both: using mystic combat to use a domain power during a full attack, but channel it through an attack.

I'm sorry if I explained it bad, sometimes I really forget that people can't read my mind to fill the blanks.

If you're still taking submissions I'm interested.

Malik Hellfire TN Hellspawn Tiefling Mystic Sage Cleric

Malik was born in Chelix and took up the life of a bandit due to the way he was treated. He ran to Andoran when his group was wiped out. Broke and hungry he met a cleric of Sarenrae who showed him he didn't have to live his life the way he had.

Malik is conflicted: his base nature is to do evil but he is continually trying to redeem himself, but he backslides.

Malil tries to look neat but his hair won't stay put, his clothes chaff due to the strangeness of his body. All cleaned up he doesn't look to bad but he's never cleaned up for long.

Auroyx Urji
Half Orc-Primal Companion Hunter
CN

Having been raised by his mother in the port town of Dejaro, Auroyx found a wounded falcon and took it in as his own. After the more monstrous aspect of his pet caused a uproar involving half a meat shop and the mayor's cat, the duo took off in search of greener pastures.
Personality-A quiet lad, with a dislike of talking due to his tusks, he has a rather focused aspect to animals.
Description- A mountainous figure, his orc ancestry comes out clearly in his hulking 6'7" frame, canines touching the bottom of his lip, dark grey skin, and long dreads coming off his head onto his back. A small leather pad sits on his shoulder for Whistler, his falcon.

Hawks;
Add half a line about joining the Pathfinder Society, if you would.

Traw and Tawny;
I like your characters. I'd accept both of them but you're playing basically the same class, and while I'm not especially fussed about party balance, not to the point of having two near-identical sheets. I'd politely suggest you two chat, and either one of you drops out or makes a new character.

Rafik;
Backstory's pretty minimal. Would benefit from a line on joining the Pathfinder society. Wouldn't mind some justification for combining Cheliax, Ninja, Afro and Katana together.

@GMArkwright I hope you don't mind me putting forth a counter argument, as I think the characters would synergize well both rp-wise and mechanically.

From an RP perspective I am quite fond of the idea of a beautiful Aasimar who embraces corruption and disfigurement and a redemption seeking tiefling, who struggles to maintain his appearance. Given that Florian would be a conniving manipulator who goes out of his way to hide his cruel nature, I would image we could have a lot of fun RPing him attempting to subtly steer Malik back towards the darkside.

Both characters also have reduced healing capacity, neither having spontaneous cures, Malik having no channelling, and Florian having reduced so sharing the healing load makes a lot of sense to me. While they both have group buffing abilities they seem to work together, maybe there are a few domains that could clash, but easy to avoid I would think.

I was loosely planning Florian to be a caster using debuffs and summons, not sure what role Malik was thinking of, but given his bandit background I am guessing he might be using more physical attacks? I am confident we could tailor things to give them very different roles.

Malik is using my Mystic Sage archetype, and while it's possible to use it for a battle cleric build, it does lose a bit too much for me to recommend it so; medium armor, spells per day, etc. So I believe he's going for a straight support/caster cleric, like you probably will. Thus my concern.

Dark Archive

A little more background: He had to get away, so he traveled East, running low on supplies to sustain himself, he passed out. He woke to find himself in a ninja village. To pay them back, he became a student. Learning their ways and weapons.

When he returned to Cheliax he had rumors about the Pathfinder Society and sought them as a way to keep coin coming in. And perhaps he wouldn't have to return to Cheliax to often.

I did describe Rafik as dark-skinned, so the afro was a way describing his hair rather than just saying Black. I was trying to be a little more creative.

To be honest I didn't look at anyone else's submissions. I've gotten in to the habit lately of proposing what I want to play not what fits the other submissions. I'm sure I haven't been chosen a few times because of that.

I saw the mystic sage in another recruitment of yours and found it interesting but I had another character in mind for that one and jumped at the chance to play one in this recruitment. While you could play this archetype as a melee character using a weapon to channel your domain abilities I don't know that it would be best for that at low levels. Get some elven chain, and a shield and the ACs not too bad but the BAB hurts. I hadn't put a lot of thought into how to play him yet as a sheet wasn't required at this point. I agree that support is suited to the Mystic Sage but the fewer spells will hurt in that regard. I'll have to put some thought into this.

I do know this is the class/archtype I want to try out.

I would suggest my Mystic Warrior archetype; quite similar, but far more battle-oriented, it being lashed onto the Inquisitor.

After reviewing the archetype and the domains, this is definitely a buffer archetype. At higher levels it has the potential to debuff as well. If chosen, that is how I will play it as a buffer. Sarenrae wasn't the best choice as far as domains go but is the best for this character due to the redemption theme.

Hmmm, I must admit I'm rather attached to my concept and I can't really retool much without giving it up :p I would probably take the trickery Innuendo subdomain - because sow thought (we should sacrifice her to the Badger Lord) is practically written for this character, and I'd never seen it before.

While he would buff, through sermonic performance, given his cruel nature after that he would be trying to harm - I think the spell Murderous Command would be a low level favourite.

I suspect we could work something out if both selected, but I'll certainly understand if you feel its an either or.

Auroyx approached the society for information regarding his unique magic. In exchange for helping the society in exploration, he'd be informed of similar magics, both in sorcerers and artifacts.

I believe I'm ready to go. Also, to throw my two pence into the arena, I think the interplay between the two could be pretty interesting, both mechanically and role play.
