Aaaaaaaand we're back!

Which is good because now I get to go to sleep so I can wake up at 5:30, drive a half hour, walk a Bernese Mountain pup (though he's 1 and 5 months he's still technically considered a puppy...) and them come back...and do the same thing at noon, 5 pm and 10. Along with caring for my dog...but at least my mom is here to help. That and apparently cook dinner for my brother's friends that are having a kind of small friend reunion after 2 months of not seeing each other since June.

Hmm....what do you get out of cooking dinner for them? I'd suggest they'd fire up the grill and do it themselves!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

They might but my brother for some reason wants my mom to cook him dinner. Just like I do. :p :)

After an overnight shot through the East Coast I’m chilling on Cape Cod. Man the traffic is crazy

And the hits keep on coming...

So this morning, I got up and went over to check on my newest client's dog. Nothing fancy, just drove, took him out around 6:00 am...and we sat together until 7. My mom called asking if I had left the house. She then said (because she had been willing yesterday evening) she was going to take the dog out. I come home, her car isn't there. But I assume since the dog is there, she walked him and she had to go somewhere. I did see my brother's door open. But didn't think anything of it. So I tried to go back to sleep. I get a text on my phone, Mom's at one of local hospital's ER. She only tells me she fell (not her overall condition) to take the dog out AGAIN (since she didn't finish) and to feed him. I do so. I go back to bed... and get woken up by my brother who tells me "Hey we're going out. You need to wake up and take care of Mom because she broke her collarbone and she's in a sling.

So now... this: I just swear. The universe HATES me.

Well, Cal, right up until the site crashed again yesterday, I was doing great. How is everyone today?

Waiting for the site to crash again. :-)

Me: Okay, it's September 1st. Where's my August sub stuff?
Paizo: We had multiple crashes and maybe other problems, we're working on it as fast as we can.
Me: Okay, I understand and sympathize, but... where's my stuff? :-)

Waiting is.

Remo Williams: Chiun, you're incredible.
Chiun: No. I am better than that.

Now I gotta go soak so this hole in my back will heal again. :-)

Thomas Seitz wrote:

It does seem to like pulling cruel jokes on you. I hope you're mom heals quickly!

Cal,

I hope so too. I still dunno if I should stay over when I have been book by two clients to do overnights while she heals up. Admittedly they don't start until the 11th (which overlaps onto the other client on the 16th) and goes until the 23rd. But that's still not much time for her to heal up...

My only REAL hope is my car gets fixed in time and maybe THAT will get some momentum on my side. Or something.

I'm crossing fingers!

Okay universe, NOW you're just being a dick!

So apparently last night around 4:30 am, SOMEONE (or a couple someones) tried to break into my neighbor that lives two houses up and across the street from truck (somehow trying to get in but failing and then smashing one of windows but not enough to break in) Then said individual (or individuals) moved on down to the other neighbor's house, where they proceeded to remove the screen door from the back porch window, and then SMASH that one too.

Mom heard what she thought was a gunshot and a muzzle flash. Our neighbor (who's daughter lives in the house directly across the street and also whose husband's truck was basically vandalized), heard something like that too.

Come on Universe. This is just stupid...

Fortunately no one was hurt or anything.

Drunk, drug-addled, or stupid. Or all three.

I hope somebody called the cops. That probably wouldn't go anywhere, but you never know.

Don't think I've ever heard a muzzle flash. :-)

Caprimera. Bacause who wouldn't want to have a goat-chimera familiar?!

Ed,

I meant she thought she saw one. Admittedly she was half asleep when she thought she saw that and heard the bang before.

And yes probably drug addled and stupid given that after the cops had been called, at least one person has been arrested.

Happy Labor Day! Don't drink and drive but eat far too much to be comfortable!

Nine-hour drive home complete. Providence, NYC, Baltimore, DC driven through. Oh the heat! Just shy of triple digits from Cape Cod to Alexandria
It’s good to be home

Had to get me and my pupper home. Today is a work day and I had to make sure I got some rest. I’ll be there in October, never fear!

AND we're back! Again?!?
:P

Sorry I missed you all this weekend, had to go visit my father-in-law in New Orleans, (Wife worries about him, he's been lonely since Mom in law died) and of course had to do LAbor Day grill and eat too much. (Its required by law, I think) and now wife is worrying about storm/hurricane that is coming close enough to annoy our neighbors in Alabama, but we shouldnt see much except a little rain.

My wife excels at worrying. ;P

I liked the 'Remo Williams' movie! Now I need to go watch it again.
And 'Big Trouble in Little China',
Yep, old-timey cheesy-movie-marathon-time! :)

Oi vay! I'm glad that you made it safe and sound Pat!

I just hate the nine+ hour drives anymore.
(I never LIKED them, but they were much easier when I was much younger!) ;)

Sometimes its not so bad. A nice trip in mellow weather to see the family. But when its bad, its BAD. :P

Meh, I gripe a lot. But it used to be worse. When I lived IN the Big Sleazy, it was 11+ (or so) to see my family. up to 12-13 hours was not unusual. Depended on traffic, and if my shortcut that trip actually worked or not.
(SO many small roads through SO many small towns) ;P

I’ve been trying to catch up with the Glass Cannon podcast. It’s an engaging story with a funny cast, so it makes long rides go by nicely. My only issue was the heat, and the logistics of traveling with my pup. I didn’t feel comfortable leaving him alone in the car because of the extreme heat, so it made finding rest stops interesting

I downloaded a couple (Nos.18 and 19) for today's long commutes.

The GM just executed an NPC that was important to one of the characters. Gutsy move! That sort of thing can either really engage the party in vengeance move, or totally collapse party morale. But slitting the guy's throat - my kind of GM! :D

There's a lot more table talk in the GCP than I'm accustomed to. I grew up under a strict DM who didn't allow talk of things like HP or OOC tactical planning - we just had to do things in character. This is different. The game moves a lot more quickly and the party seems more competent arranging things OOC.

Listening to the Glass Cannon podcast is almost like being in a real table game again. I get to talk just about as much as in real, live sessions.

Honestly, yesterday was fine. Today Mom's in pain but hopefully when we see the orthopedic specialist at 8:30 am, we'll get a clearer idea of what kind of treatment she'll need between now and her trip to some of Middle-Eastern Europe on October 8th...or else the 13th. I forget which one. I just know she'll be back by Halloween.

I think it helps they are friends in real life and have played together. It’s not a collection of randos in a pick-up game.

I highly recommend playing Cannon Fodder after each episode, once you get up to its inaugural point (somewhere around #60). They discuss a lot of their theories on game craft and why they do certain things in game. It’s very illustrative

Ep 18 was really helpful in the stop-and-go traffic when I usually chew through the steering wheel.

I tried listening to Glass Cannon, but just can't. Most of my group listen to it and love it, but I just can't do podcasts. I always wind up tuning them out and not paying attention. I think it took me 4 tries to finally get through the first episode.

I'm the exact same way. I have friends who do podcasts, one about gaming and one about music, two things I really love. But I just don't have the patience to just sit still and do nothing.

I’ve listened to a lot while driving. Also, I can listen while working. I don’t feel like I have to pay full attention to it.

Yeah, I can't stand sitting and watching movies, much less listening to a podcast. But combine podcasts with driving or editing or painting or website building or reading or anything else that doesn't require my full attention, and I'm a happy camper. I need something to listen to.

There are hazards to podcasts while driving. I stopped at a drive-thru on my way home late last night. I turned the GCP off while ordering, but it was on when I pulled up to pay. The little high school gal at the window seemed rather alarmed when, as I handed her payment, someone in my car yelled "I'M GONNA KILL THE SHIT OUTTA THAT GUY!!!"

Unfortunately, if I pay half attention at work somebody (yo!) is losing a finger (or toe, depending on what I'm using that day) so podcasts don't work for me.

Yes computer work is much more amenable to headphones

Gosh, that's rough. You guys are missing out. I hope there's something in your lives you do enjoy, like maybe gluten. Or water.

I don't have patience and focus for podcasts.

Either I am doing something else and listening to podcast would distract me, or I am doing work on computer and podcast would distract me.

I also don't listen to audiobooks. Reading is fun. Listening less so. I'd zone out quickly.

Yay! Congratulations!

I love reading, preferably on paper, not a screen, :P

However, I discovered that I also like audiobooks. Particularly on long drives. Especially of they are well-performed by the reader(s)

And even more so if I really like the subject matter. (Harry Dresden Novels, William Shakespeare writes Star Wars, etc)

:D

EDIT- Oh yeah. I cant listen to them at work, much as Id like to.
I'd never get anything done!
;P

The kitten Aria is growing like a weed. She was 4oz when we rescued her about 3 weeks ago and is now over a pound!

She is a ball of energy. When we first got her, you could set her on the floor and leave the room, and she’d be right where you left her when you got back. Now you can’t even turn your back on her or she will take off.

Is there photographic documentation of her growth?
