Male calicoes do occur, though they are extremely rare and always sterile. I knew someone as a kid who had one. He was a "barn cat", nearly feral. But for some reason he'd come to me and let me pet him when no one else could.

What are you going to name her?

We don’t know if we will keep her yet. We think the momma cat got spooked by some people that were around and got separated long enough that she wasn’t willing to reclaim this one. They actually waited a couple of hours before they even picked her up, to give the mother a chance to reunite her with the litter. But it’s also possible the momma cat rejected her because of a defect we can’t see. Hopefully the vet will know (and can make sure she doesn’t have any parasites, since they’re all strays). If she is healthy, we’ll talk about whether to keep her. I am thinking yes.

In that event, the name will be something suitably geeky. Maybe an LOTR character or something...

This is true. I am playing the odds a bit, I suppose.

A friend of mine named a batch of kittens after all the Great Old Ones in the Cthulhu Mythos.

Vet: How cute! What’s this little guy’s name?

Owner: Shub-Niggurath. You know, like the Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young. Spelled the usual way.

Yep, that was pretty much it.. LOL

Motivation level zero.

I vote Melian, wife of the elf king Thingol, mother of Luthien. A Maia, she was similar in power to Gandalf or Saruman.

Friend called a rabbit Shub-Niggurath. That was one big fat bas****. Supposedly bite-y too.

If any animal in the normal world deserves to be named after Shub-Niggurath, it's a rabbit.

If I ever have a cat, that is male, I'm naming it Loren Soth. Mostly because I know it wants to be a Death Knight...

Also I already wore the brown pants a few days ago. Thank goodness for staying in a place with running water and electricity!

Well, 18 hours from now I will be headed to the Windy City. Wish me luck!

I wish someone would come visit me here! *knocks at the door* No the lady of the house isn't here. I'm not her son, just the house sitter/dog sitter. Okay cool. Bye.

Yes that actually happened. But I'd still want someone to visit that's one of you mugs.

If anyone here is in the Tyler, Texas area tonight my son's band is playing at Stanley's Famous Pit Barbecue. Go see some rock and roll! They're playing in Fayetteville, Arkansas on Saturday at Kingfish, too.

(This shameless plug brought to you by an extremely proud dad)

I'll be here...alone...for like most of the night...

Until sleep calls.

LOL,,.. (To several of the previous posts) ;P

Just a fun fact for those who refuse to acknowledge the truth.
Cats ARE the Great Old Ones, just biding their time to reclaim the earth!

Welp, spent the evening at "The Rosies" The local community theater version of the Tonys.
The show my daughter and I were in this spring 'Tuck Everlasting' received several nominations. (Including an aged wizard for best supporting actor) But we didn't bring home any awards, sadly.
Still, got to hang out with peeps far more theater-y and geek-y than even myself, it was a pretty fun evening out. The wife and I dont get many of those, so it was a win! :)

Fantasy Races: Nyr Erain. I have been working on them for over a year. Similarity to Dead Cells is rather coincidental, though it did influenced some finishing touches...

Spoiler:
In fact the initial version assumed them being half-undead spirits that use reanimated corpses as their bodies before I decided to rewrite them as made of shadowstuff. I made that change long-long ago. Apparently the creators of Dead Cells found my cast off thought and used it for the main character...

I don't think cats are but certainly squirrels and/or raccoons might be.

Hi, everyone.

Hey, John! How's your day?

Doing okay. A thunderstorm blew through here several hours ago, but I made it to work without being soaked.

John,

I got hit by that. It wasn't fun waiting it out in my car...

Rag,

I dunno about Armadillos since they don't get this far north...

Tom, all I had was an umbrella with a broken rib.

Thomas Seitz wrote:

Just wait. They used to be extremely rare in here in Arkansas. Now it's hard to believe how common they are.

Depends how well they'll endure the West Virginia / SW Pennsylvania winters.

Yeah I mean the climate has gotten warmer, I'll grant you...but I doubt it's going to be THAT warm.

John,

That's very unfortunate.

The stars are right. Armathulhu has awakened. His annoying and well armored children will soon claim the world.

John,

Happened during an especially strong gust of wind. Still works, mostly. I'll get another when it's completely broken.

Cal,

I don't think that's how it works...but okay.

John,

Well I was in my car when it started to hail...so I was glad nothing broke.

Fun fact: "Armageddon" is short for "Armadillo-ageddon" which is ancient Mesopotamian for "being overrun by armadillos." That's what happened to Enkidu.

Also, they carry leprosy (Hansen's disease).

My wife's 14ish year old cat just passed away today. RIP Ozzy. You will be missed.

Little kitten is doing well. She is teething so she chews on everything. She is starting to walk on all fours (instead of crawling on her belly), so I suspect we will have our hands full as she becomes increasingly mobile.

She got separated from mother and siblings before getting her teeth? Search for instructions how to teach an abandoned kitten not to bite extensively - normally kittens learn how to control strength of their bite by playing with their parents and kin, who give them certain types of feedback when they start biting too strongly for play. Otherwise she'll might end being a rather annoying biter later, not understanding that she goes beyond boundaries of play and into hurting others.
