Heck with Freehold, That's MY nightmare!!! :P

<Sigh>
<Bangs head against metal top of of post-WW2-Era desk>

Is it sad that I took off this morning to finish up my taxes, and the results were so depressing that I actually came INTO work to make me feel better?!?

Yes. It is that bad. :(

Due my State employer shenanigans, and my wife actually making a halfway decent wage this year, and my daughter getting old enough to lose a portion of the credit that she gave us,... We owe. We never owe. We don't make enough money to owe!

(Well, the State is another story. No matter HOW much you might get back from Federal, Louisiana will find a way to make sure you owe them money! Even if it is only a dollar!) :P

<LeSigh> Time to run over by HR and fill out a new W-2. Let them have all the money up front. It'll make paying bills more difficult, but at least I won't owe at tax time! (I hope!) :/

<Bangs head against metal desk one more time for good measure. Checks numbers again. Nope, Still owe.>

Good luck Rags!

I wouldn't say it's "fun" as much as "incredibly useful under most circumstances, as well as the foundation upon which modern technological society is based."

I do understand many do not share my fascination with numbers. :)

the only numbers that fascinate me are the ones in my paycheck and the ones that precede the letter in the estimate of a woman's bra size.

I could say so many things right now in response to this, but I won't because, even though I've been drinking, I'm still mostly in possession of my sense of decorum, and I don't want to get banned.

We really do need to get everybody together again IRL. Maybe you guys could come out my way this time, or, though I'm loath to cross over into New England, we could all meet up somewhere out Patrick's way.

Completely off-topic-

I'm finally getting around to watching Marvel's Jessica Jones, the last of the four Marvel / Netflix series that I hadn't watched, and I have to say, throughout the four series (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist), the villains are extremely compelling. In particular, Vincent d'Onofrio is amazing as Wilson Fisk / Kingpin, as well as David Tennant as Kilgrave / Purple Man. David Wenham as Harold Meachum is a major saving grace of Iron Fist, and the only reason the villains of Luke Cage (no spoilers) don't seem as effective is simply due to their being in the same story as the eponymous hero, portrayed by Mike Colter, who owns every scene he's in. I'm not even a fan of the comics, and I'm looking forward to The Defenders.

I'm pretty sure you will be organizing that meeting on the wrong continent... :/

I am coming into NYC the weekend of July 15th. I'd like to meet up at that point for some drinks. I'll be near Astor Place and there seems to a fair amount of drinking establishments nearby.

Unless I win the lottery, then yes. Poland still remains outside my financial grasp.

I'm still buying the occasional ticket though, and I did a prosperity ritual tonight, so you never know...

Hey now buddy, I know that song. Let's sing it a couple hundred more times just to make sure we've got it down pat.

Patrick, I don't think I mentioned it: I will be in Beantown Tuesday, April 25th. It's a tight schedule, but let me know if you'll be in the city that day or on the 26th.

I was going to post this earlier, but the server kept crashing.

The Program Development Cycle Explained

1) Edit. Where you squint at the screen, hunting-and-pecking at the keys while trying to read the code you've written, in chicken-scratch, from a notebook. Optional: Pray that you've got everything typed in properly.

2. Compile. Accompanied with prayers. Followed by 2b.

2B. Initial bug fixes from the Compiler build. Accompanied with swearing.

3. Test. Where you hand off the bug-infested Masterpiece to people who simply don't care how many sleepless nights you've had.

4. Debug. Accompanied with enough swearing that would shock the Devil. This is where you apply the new code to a spiral notebook, and pray that the code is still legible.

I hope that this explains everything. :P

~both pissed and amused at the same time~ [sarcasm]Well that was fun.[/sarcasm] This will make it the second time that I got rear ended avoiding someone who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Today it was some "person" on a bike stopped in my work's driveway checking his phone. I had my turn signal on, but this pickup truck switched lanes and rear ended me. My bumper is messed up some and the covering for the tail light is broken but the car is driveable and the tail light works and the trunk opens and closes. The amusing thing is that his bumper got messed up enough to where he needs his pickup truck towed. Karma. We are in down town Savannah, GA and even at night stuff happens. We have SCAD and tourists here. Both of them do not think. You have to be careful. I got lucky and did not hit the idiot on the bike or the tree that my car just missed or the wall that my car just missed. My neck hurts some but not as much as the last time. Unfortunately this means that I will have to stay an hour later to make up the time.

~sighs~ Odds are that the insurance company will not repair my car. The blue book value is in the $2ish k and it will cost between $5 k and $6 k to fix. It could have been worse, but I will not be able to buy a new car until mid next year at earliest. ~sighs~ Oh well. Damn it. I will have to take the money that they give me and buy a used car to get me through until then. I am not looking forward to the call that I get later on today from the insurance company.

Patrick Curtin wrote:

~shrugs~ Yes it does suck, but it could be worse. I could have hit the idiot on the bike that stopped at my work's entrance to check his messages. (OTOH that would have gone in the Darwin Awards.) I did not hit the steel reinforced concrete corner. If I had, I am pretty sure that I would still be in the hospital. I could have hit the wall or the tree. ~shrugs and grimaces~ OTOH my car was paid off completely. ~sighs~ No sense in whining over spilled milk. I will be talking to one of my friends later on today and asking for help. He works in the car industry and can steer me in the right direction. All I need is something in good shape with a radio that can get me to work and back for about two to three years. After that, we should be debt free enough for me to get a new car. And if I do any traveling, then I will use the wife's Prius. Or fly American Airways if I am feeling really masochistic.
