[Dreamscarred Press - Path of War - Initiating Attribute

Advice and Rules Questions

Is there currently in place any method for changing your initiating attribute for a class/martial discipline or stance/maneuver? -- which I believe is determined by the associated skill for said martial discipline.

For the Martial Training line I don't believe so.

For the classes and archetypes with maneuver progression its determined by the class itself. (Warlord is always Charisma,Rogue Archetype is int, ect)

That I understand. What I'm looking for is a way to change say a Stalker's primary attribute from Wisdom to say... Intelligence...or Charisma.

Yeah there isn't. Basically the same as asking how you can have a Charisma based Wizard.

As a GM I generally allow people to change their classes attribute with a trait.

Admittedly, you can have wisdom and intelligence based sorcerers. It's not like attribute shifting is a ridiculous thing in PF.

Archetypes! Well, this one at least:

"The vigilante’s initiation modifier is Intelligence, and any class features which key off of Wisdom now key off of Intelligence instead." pg. 29

From the PoW:E archetypes playtest doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1tbBIinA90VQW8eriM0TZTZCbHsSU6cdv7_44J8w 564s/edit?usp=sharing

It might change on the official version, though.

True, but I can't recall offhand anything less than an archetype doing it. And (and I may be misremembering) I don't recall an archetype that does that in PoW. I've only been sporadically keeping up with the new book, there might be one there - which The Raji pulled up..

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Gah, Wis to Int, but looses access to solar wind and veiled moon!

Of the psionic classes, the cryptic is like a red headed step-child when it comes to synergies with PoW classes. :(

It also replaces Deadly Strikes with Sneak attack (bad!)

If the developer is reading..that needs to go. That is a deal breaker.

Eh, sneak attack has it's place compared to deadly strike. Sneak Attack is a bit easier to activate than deadly strike with your mobility and maneuvers, and it frees you from needing to crit-fish.

It's super easy to grab a flank in Path of War land.

There is also a Stalker ability that allows you to sneak attack along with Deadly Strike. So, having sneak attack replace deadly strike just makes that ability useless, unless you reverse the ability and it gives deadly strike instead.

Crit-fishing > flanking, IMO.

There are lines of strikes in mithral current and thrashing dragon that auto-flatfoot foes for the strike. That makes sneak attack pretty good.

Yeah I have a Hidden Blade Rogue that is landing sneak attacks all the time with Swift Current Strike and Dimensional Strike from Veiled Moon.

Plus the gambit attack bonus helps my accuracy out a TON!
