Why doesn't Drizzt have ranger spells?

Not just heart attacks:
, heart attacks in mythic locations!

From what I read in some of my early Drizzt books, Salvatore wrote that he never wanted Drizzt or any of his characters to be statted in D&D anyways. Once you stat them, they stop being literary character that can change and grow and now become limited to the rules of the game. I am paraphrasing of course. It seems that did not last long since all his characters got statted out.

So yeah, he was not supposed to have any written levels in anything at all or any written abilities so he could stay fluid.

I can see a low wisdom because in one of the early books, Drizzt forgets how his eyes work.

Spoiler:
When going back into the Underdark, he doesn't use his infravision (this is what we had instead of darkvision back in the day and it was awesome.) when encountering a displacer beast. He could have easily ignored the displacement by using the heat spectrum instead of standard visible light but no, he derped. Low wisdom and maybe low int too.

At only 148 to boot, wtf! Lol!

Damn it, let the dwarves live!

Is that too much to ask :-D

To me Chronicles is pretty much the best of Weise and Hickman.

Fantasy='s suffer no dwarf to live?!

Dwarves' lives tend to be cut...short.

don't get me wrong, they're great books, but that part always rubbed me wrong.

Olive Ruskettle and Bruenor Battlehammer, my two favorite fantasy literary characters.

Loved Olive!

Excellent taste Cap!

I liked Entreri... for about three books.

Sometimes death is better.

You either die an awesome villain(or hero, for others...)....or live long enough to be shamelessly warped to fit a new and contrived story niche.

Cadderly's ending in Cleric Quintet was poignant and moving. The "nope, just kidding!" tacked onto it really, really stank. (Not that the CQ was all that great, but... come on.)

Point is, Salvatore has clearly just accepted that his writing in TSR, then WotC's playground is going to operate under some rather crummy rules.

Scarab Sages

My favorite Salvatore series are ones that were not game licensed. Luthien's Gamble and the Woods Out Back. Both were much better than Drizzt or Cadderly.

I loved Servant of the Shard, I also liked the Entreri and Jarlaxle books, except maybe the half-orc side story.

Wish he did more with Entreri and Dwahvel Tigerlillies, but whatever.

Loved the end of Road to the Patriarch.

Jarlaxle is still his awesome self in the later novels

Oh I'm sure, I've moved on.

Edit: can someone explain the sundering and whether or not forgotten realms has gone back to the way it was, use spoiler tags please, no one wants to get flagged by Kobold Cleaver. :-)

*Raises flag cannon*

R.A Salvatore has mentioned many times in his books that Drizzt is a ranger. In all the books I have read, he never used any spells associated with the ranger class. Why? This question has been nagging me for months.

He Took an Archetype that dropped it? Most GOOD Rangers Do.

Isn't there only, like, one archetype that drops spells? I can only think of Skirmisher, off the top of my head.

Skirmisher rules, incidentally.

Yes, yes it does.

Skirmisher does indeed kick much arse, and brings our hearts much joy.

"Icing Death?" Does it inflict diabetes on a crit, due to sugar overlaod?
"Twinkle?" Does it force people you're fighting to save or die laughing?

How can anyone take this crap seriously?

No one takes fantasy literature seriously, it defeats the purpose of fantasy literature. :-)

I say the same thing about Texas.

That's a totally legit approach to the Lone Star Universe I inhabit.

I warned a player who copied (and I mean, COPIED) Drizz't that if he played the character in my game, which I would this one time allow, that I would always refer to his swords as "Tinkle and Cake Icing." That pretty much put that problem to bed.

The parts of Texas without people are really nice (not that there aren't nice people in Texas, mind you).

Good reflexes, catching me before I thought of something better to say. :-)

He lost his innate magical abilities in his time away from the under dark.

So when he gained spells, he tended to use those he was familiar with....fairie fire, darkness, levitation......

He's just messing with you!!!

Copyright and lack of Open Gaming License. It's a legal issue,
not a D&D issue. Well, yes it is a D&D issue. But, adults have to
follow rules even if your mom says it's ok.

.

I'm not sure if you're joking or not, but that has nothing to do with anything. As the owners of D&D, Wizards doesn't need to give or receive any kind of permission to use anything from D&D in their own books. (Heck, if they really want to, they can use stuff from Magic: The Gathering in their D&D books, and vice versa!)

Silver Crusade

what would be too far?

Silver Crusade

In all seriousness, I may have missed any semblance of spell casting Drizzt did in Salvatore's books due to all the times the 'hunter' aspect of this Ranger showed up. His dazzling display of daring do demonstrated in his destructive dance of death was decidedly deadly.

Edit: Ok, the use of so many words that start with 'd' is probably going too far ;)

See, this guy gets it.

Oh, why!
Why musteth thy do thusly to I!
Woe!
Woe onto me an army of Orcish flesh to rend in twaine.

Silver Crusade

Nay, my good sir, I would not wish such a thing upon you for fear of another reading of the 'hunter's dance of death' to happen upon mine eyes and woe to anyone should that happen for I fear such a thing would cause yet another string of words starting with the same letter to cascade across the forums.
