Elo. |
It might. Elo deals very much with reach and AOOs, particularly since she herself has reach. If the creature didn't have reach, I could have had a chance for an AOO and a grapple as it moved in, preventing its whack.
And I believe you mean thinking on my ass, given as that's where I currently am.
Rataji the Resourceful |
Sigh. It would help if you had maps, wouldn't it? GM, would it help if a bunch of us pitched in and got you a couple Paizo digital flip map packs for forest terrains and such? I can hand-draw maps and do an exquisite job. This does not translate to being able to use computer mapping tools.
Would you like some map packs that you can just drop into google slides and then have combats with?

Those seem pretty cool.
I would think, country side? and maybe fortresses? IDK there isn't really a wasteland or dry tundra that I saw lol.
In no way are you required to spend money on this either, I can make the maps, but if you want them for your collection or to buy them for me, I won't stop you...
Gaurm |
I have a very, very bad feeling about this...
They put Elo down in one hit, and took over 1/3 of Gaurm's HP in one hit, and have a nearly guaranteed hit with trip every time they swing. We need a way to turn this around if we are to live...
DM Malleus |
I'm sure you guys will figure it out. Some quick thinking and knowledge of animals mixed with common sense will save you!
Also T now tensely await what happens next.
Bummer we seem to have lost some players, probably due to my slow start.
Though all said and done, I'd rather start slow and ramp up to a consistent pace, than start really fast and burn out right away.
Just a Mort |
How much gp exactly are we starting with since Automatic Progression Rules on d20 state half the gp = 5250 gp?
Elo. |
Looking over how things played out, I found the problem. We didn't make clear enough to the gm that the reason we were using this scouting formation was because we were stealthing. GM didn't realize, bam, we start the fight 100ft split apart.
GM, are we using a map? If so, whose?
DM Malleus |
Let's use mine, it has the right number of enemies, and the correct radius for your spell! Also I made it and am proud of it. lol.
And yes, no one said anything about stealthing. I was kind of like, 100 ft, yowser but hey, ranged characters who knows.
From now on we can use the "if the party is in scouting formation, scouts are using passive stealth. Stealth skill +10" randomly the only rule I liked from 4th ed Dnd.
Elo. |
Could you explain that rule? Are we getting a free +10 to stewlth?
Yeah I meant to imply stealthing because I asked for everyone'e stewlth mods and put the best up the front.
DM Malleus |
Sure! It basically is a tool to make my life easier. How it works is that if your are in "Scout Mode" or walking in a scouting formation. I treat your stealth as if you were constantly rolling 10 and I treat the enemy's perception as if they were constantly rolling 10.
For example let's say Elo has a skill of +11 to stealth and she is scouting down a trail. Walking the opposite way is farmer Tom with a perception skill of +2.
Now in a non threatening situation, Elo is being constantly tactically aware but she is not attempting to "sneak" because Tom is not on guard or actively looking for her.
Elo's passive stealth is 21 while Farmer Tom's passive perception is 12, he's whistling dixie and chewing tobacco. Elo would see him well before he saw her, giving her a chance to get off the road, or prepare an ambush or wave a friendly hello alerting him.
NO ROLLS REQUIRED.
Scenario 2
Elo is infiltrating a bandit camp. She is trying to remain undetected, unfortunately there is a guard who is actively on the watch for intruders. Now it doesn't matter that Elo has a passive 21 and the bandit has a passive 16, because both are engaging in what they are doing. Elo rolls a 12 scoring a 23. The bandit rolls a 17 + his 6 minus 4 because it's night and he doesn't have dark vision, his final score is 19 and Elo slips in undetected.
Makes sense I hope, I really find it to be useful as stealthy characters are then always pretty stealthy and unperceptive characters are always pretty unperceptive. So a ogre with +3 perception that rolls a 20 with a rogue with +15 stealth who rolls a 1 happens less often.
Rataji the Resourceful |
Taking ten is great. So is having a standard door operating procedure and other standards for stealth. These kind of things really speed pbp up.
Tell you what... I was considering purchasing map packs anyway to make it easier for me to do my pbp GMing. I could put them up in a GM-only folder for you to look at and see if there are any you could use?
Hmm
DM Malleus |
Heh, I'm sorry you had to type all that out, I'm quite familiar with the process of 'taking 10', which is what it's called in Pathfinder.
Hey no problem, taking a ten, passive stealth, it's all good.
I just like the flow that those two skills being used in conjunction like that offers.
EDIT: Also, way to almost have a panic attack there Zoh. :) That's what I like to see, my players dropping dead from narrative alone! MUUAAHAAAHAHAHA!
Sir Grimold |
It's basically taking 10, but applied more liberally than typical.
Also, always be explicit about character actions and player intentions. Poor communication kills characters, and liberal use of the Discussion thread or OOC tags are your lifeline.
Good job on that obscuring mist. One stegosaurus is a lot easier to handle than 3. Makes mental note that GM likes insanely hard random encounters.
That said, I'm definitely confused about that stegosaurus attack. It looks like Elo got cleaved, but I'm not sure why she suddenly takes double damage from it.

Hey D Squad, I was thinking about the Ustalav mission. We've decided that we took out some sort of high-ranking vampire, and presumably it had to do with safeguarding Gallowspire. That implies that the vampire is with the pro-WT faction. In Caliphas, most of the vampire underground are very much in the anti-WT faction; their leader is one of the Whispering Tyrant's most powerful (un)living enemies. What do you all think of our target having been one of Malyas's underlings?

You've lost me, Grimold, but I suspect that you'd be having to explain this stuff to Taj anyway... Maybe it is really good that my character is an out of town rookie. It simulates my own ignorance of the local politics / disasters / issues.

Alright, lemme see if I can clear it up.
However, there are plenty of people that are not so keen on seeing him return to Golarion. Among his many notable enemies (Aroden, Arazni, the Knights of Ozem, anybody sane) there is a resistance faction dating back to before the WT was imprisoned at Gallowspire. One of these is a vampire named Luvick Siervage. Luvick is the patriarch of the vampire underground in Caliphas, Ustalav's capital. Thus, most of the vampires in Caliphas are also enemies of the Whispering Tyrant.
We never fleshed much out for the mission in Ustalav that D Squad completed just before the start of this game. I think we've at least decided that we took out a powerful vampire. Knights of Ozem are mostly interested in keeping Gallowspire sealed, so it stands to reason that this vampire is an ally of the Whispering Tyrant. This means it likely wasn't one of the vampires native to Caliphas. I propose that it may possibly have been an agent of the Whispering Tyrant's most powerful vampire ally, Malyas.

Hmm. I could possibly handle 1 stego - though the vision issue is a problem too, but not 3 at a time. Trying to lock down 3 would mean tapping into forbidden cheese that would harm my sanity.
Plus, I don't really like to do that kind of thing. I prefer to pull strings from the back. Subtly.
And you know, shopping? It takes forever :(
Question: Does the Boots of the Earth work the way they do in PFS? Or the Non Errataed version? I'm feeling very lazy.
Rataji the Resourceful |
Are we going clouded vision life oracle? Boots of the Earth have been errataed into something far less useful.
Taj could likely take out the stegs... But we're not there. Ooh, can i help you shop? (I sound like such a girl!)
Kashuya |
Ok, I'm more or less ready, pending some questions regarding items.
I.e:
Does Boots of Earth work like the PFS version, or can it be used more then 1 time per day?
Does a Ring of sustenance allow an arcane caster to get 2 hrs sleep and prepare spells? (Forums are two minds about it - I'd like to check with GM before I actually make that purchase). I intend to craft - so I will change my feats accordingly if ring of sustenance doesn't work the way I think it does.
I'll start writing backstory slowly.
Kashuya |
Ok - I have 2k gp extra - I will rethink on whether I want craft wondrous scrap that, there are still pearls of power to craft, as there's no making of stat booster items (but handy haversacks are still cool and all that). Chances are if boots of earth are once per day only (thought the errata applied to PFS only), I will have to rethink what I want to buy.

So, D Squad --
Are we sending Allie on her mission or are we planning on botting her the whole way? If we're going to send her on a mission, now would be the time.

Was the current date ever established? In Table 2's gameplay, Precentor Hailu indicated that we were less than a month away from the flooding season, which occurs for two months in the spring. That should put us in either Calistril (February) or Pharast (March), depending on if the floods were early or late spring.
DM, I'd recommend an official date kept for both tables. If there's ever any cross-over, it will make it much easier to determine how events in each game correspond. It would also help me figure out which constellation of the Cosmic Caravan is currently visible :P
Taj, I'm not sure what to do about Allie. If she leaves, it will be more difficult to integrate her back in should her player return. But botting means somebody has to control her actions, or else she's just off-screen.
EDIT: More on the calendar. In this thread there are links to an Excel-based calendar for Golarion, including holidays and the phases of the moon, as well as the online calendar based on the Excel sheet.
EDIT II: Son of EDIT: The most likely candidate is that The Newlyweds is prominent (17 Calistril–11 Pharast), which I find amusingly appropriate. The second most likely candidate is The Bridge (12 Pharast–18 Gozan).

I love it when someone other than me geeks out in a gameworld...
I agree that the Newlyweds would be rather auspicious and amusingly appropriate.

Just a notice for all of my games, I have a very important project due this Thursday. I'll try to keep things going, but my posting will be lacking in either quality or quantity this week.
Rataji the Resourceful |
Grimold, don't worry, we can continue spoiler conversations at any time...
Kashuya is a lot of fun, Mort. What would you like your summary to be in the Personae file? And if you'd like to be an editor for the Last Light folder, forward me your email in a PM. Okay, sweetie?
Sir Daen |

So, due to work slamming me this week, I have to work 107 hours in 8 days and my wife and kids would actually like to see me. I can post, but it's going to be short most likely, and not until later tonight.
That being said, Wind Walk is a fantastic spell for espionage. Daen doesn't know how good it is. I was hoping to be able to use it throughout as it lasts for hours per level and can be turned on and off with just five rounds. When wished, we could all retain Gaseous Form and fly, fit through cracks, and if we wear white, we'll likely simply be only recognized as clouds or a mist.
I was kinda hoping the cleric would fill him in on the particulars of the spell, but if Malleus just wants us to get there in an hour for story purposes, I can understand that. It may not fit his goal of what we have to do at the keep, and we can just try to do whatever he has planned.
I'm just kinda at a loss, but I'm willing to go with whatever will make it easier on our GM, as I'm not particularly interested in just causing trouble or making his first major scenario go entirely off script.
Rataji the Resourceful |
Oh, I'd love to be able to use the spell as you describe, Daen!
But don't worry about us. Grimold is busy until Thursday. Kassie is slammed. I'm dealing with a broken foot, and my Wednesday will be insane (working at the library, then GMing that night for PFS). Zohruk's been pretty busy of late too. If you decide you want to hold, we can totally hold. Or go on hiatus until the weekend.
Hmm
Kashuya |
Garum, probably a good idea to state your method of out of combat healing before we run into the next bunch of hostiles.
