Given: A character with energy resistance.

Given: They are a Life Oracle with Life link

Given: Opponent hits life-linked person with energy descriptor that Life Oracle character is resistant to (example: fire)

Does the damage soaked retain it's origin/energy type? ie, if said above damaged character was hit with an alchemist's fire for 5 points of damage, would that fire descriptor still apply to the damage when the Life Oracle took the damage unto themselves?

I have a character I'm working on a L2 rebuild for, but wanted clarity on this before said rebuild.

Thank you very much for your time in advance.

I'm pretty sure the life link relays damage irrelevant of its source: " Each round at the start of your turn, if the bonded creature is wounded for 5 or more hit points below its maximum hit points, it heals 5 hit points and you take 5 hit points of damage." It doesn't say anything about reducing damage that is sent via the link.

The Oracle just takes damage.

What happens if the oracle has DR?

DR, resistances, immunities, and other negators should not apply as the damage was dealt to the non-oracle character, not the oracle.

Well, that kind of blows up that idea, then. Back to the drawing board.

Now something like Ablative Barrier would work, because that shifts lethal damage you have taken into non-lethal.

And if you both have Ablative...

Temp HP also work to absorb Life Link damage. Virtue, Unchained Barbarian, and Kineticist are all good ways.

Energy resistance on the target of Life Link would work.

I have a Suli (Currently Life Oracle, but at that tender cusp of being locked to a class) that's a 'motivational speaker/healer/buffer'.

Channel Energy proved a bit problematic in the last run, but I don't want to give up the extra rounds of Elemental Assault(via Feat) for Selective Channel. I want to keep the extra Assault for emergencies/until I can get higher level/Incremental Assault.

Ablative still wouldn't come into play. Life link isn't an attack on you.

A Shield Other type effect should still reduce the damage, but that would require outside sources.

True, still lifelink healing them for 5 damage at the start of your turn would be doubled if some of the lethal damage they took was shifted into non-lethal. IE ablative on the target of lifelink, not yourself.

Then maybe throw in a (tumor) familiar with the protector archetype. The shield master ability only specifies when the master or familiar takes hit point damage that it can be split between them.

Grand Lodge

Protector familiar is also quite handy. A Medium in the party, or a Medium dip also help, for the +2 healing.

I had a Marshal focus Medium in my Life Shaman's party a few sessions back. Imbue Hex'd him to Life Link Me, I took the +2 healing bonus from Seance. Damage on the whole party just melted away after combat. Effectively healing 2/round/party member(and the familiar) from the Seance Boon, +1 for FH on the familiar, +1 for spamming virtue if you want. Once everyone else is healed from the 7/round on life link and all the damage is effectively on you, you're still healing 4/round of the remainder between Virtue, Seance, and the familiar's fast healing.

If you're acting as a hit point battery to your party, Fey foundling and a few traits to increase healing work wonders at keeping you alive
