I did hope to get a reply to the PM-inquiry regarding the proposed backstory before I sit down and put it into writing, but regardless, I'll have it done within the 24 hours.
It may be I'm cutting it close again, though. So...just saying, I may take all the time available to use before being finished - if you do start looking at entries earlier, please don't start with Turion before the 24 hours are up ^_^

Fluff is up, working on crunch. GM, can you clarify whether you follow Perfect Preparation removing the need for spellbooks as making book-casters prepare like clerics (Entire spell-list) or making the wizard able to memorize spells permanently and prepare them at the start of the day like they are a walking, infinite-page spellbook? If it's the latter, how much is adding spells to this "book"? I mean, it's not like I can scribe things onto my brain with fancy inks.
Full Text: You have discovered the secret to preparing spells without having to refer to outside sources. You no longer need to prepare spells from a spellbook (if you're a magus or wizard) or a familiar (if you're a witch). You still must spend the normal amount of time preparing spells. You may keep or discard your spellbook or familiar.
nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32
I treat Perfect Preparation like Spell Mastery for every spell you've learned. Moving forward there would be no cost to scribe new spells into a spellbook when you learn them (though if you have a wizard's arcane bond it might still be worth while); you would still have to find or buy scrolls or spellbooks to learn them from though (and make the required spellcraft check).

I don't have time to look for it right now but this came up in the original recruitment too... There's a chance we might have ironed it out in PMs but I think it's in the thread. If you have time to hunt for that, feel free to follow whatever I said (and please link the post). Otherwise, I'll try to track that down tomorrow.
Oterisk
I have a Cartomancer Witch / Card Caster Magus idea I've been kicking around. Between the two classes, he should have a pretty huge amount of spells, and be relatively okay in combat as well. He'll really only have cards and spells as weapons, but that should be more than enough. I know both archetypes give me the Deadly Dealer feat, but they're still both cool.
I've actually played the character before, if that's a problem you should tell me, and he's pretty well fleshed out. The gestalt and mythic elements are new, but I thought that he might have been sucked into the Harrowed Realm and emerged that way. It's possible that since you don't age while you're in there, he could have been in there for centuries. That's kind of a neat thought. It would make him a bit of a man out of time, which intrigues me.

This is the post.
To reiterate for everyone, cost of adding spells beyond what you get in your book for free = cost of scroll + cost of scribing.
Guessing that learning the spell eats the scroll even with Perfect Preparation, but I'll keep a list of scrolls in case that isn't the case (and aren't handy haversacks just great for scrolls?).
nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32
@Oterisk- I have no objection to a character that's been played some before. I think I would prefer to avoid using the Harrowed Realm, though, if you don't mind reworking that? The realm can only be accessed by one specific artifact Harrow Deck (and has to be escaped it can't be used to leave) and I'd just as soon avoid that kind of baggage. If you feel like it's an integral part of your concept leave it as is and I'll give him a fair evaluation (but make sure your background explains where/when/why he encountered the deck and how he escaped).
@Josh- I'm pretty sure there was another post after that which reduced the cost further...
Josh.Ingle
Didn't spot this before, background skills are in effect. Because that's EXACTLY what Adrian needed, two more skill points. XD
Also, half-again scribing costs are in effect.
For the sake of simplicity, I'll pay the 150% cost for all my spells in pregen, and take advantage of free memorization going forward if I get picked.
Oterisk
Integral, no. Just thought it was cool. Artifacts break into the above regular capability territory, and I thought it would be fitting for such a character. I wouldn't want to keep the deck or anything, as that would be difficult to fit into my starting wealth, but I'll put together something and see if it's to your liking. It's possible it will still evolve into something else, I'll sleep on it and see what pops out tomorrow.

Welp, Adrian pretty much ran away with me, it's 1:16 here now but he's done and I'm going to bed. Feedback is welcome. I am aware that the AC is bad, shield can do a little bit for it but unless I can attune to a mage armor spell ABP doesn't do nice things for mage armor so... yeah. Shield is all I have for AC buffs. Still, he's sneaky enough that he ought to be able to get by long enough to buff himself.
nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32
@Adrian-
Anyone concerned about their AC
ABP does limit your control over your AC somewhat (you can't focus on it to get it higher than normal for your class, but you also can't completely ignore it), the good news is that it reigns in attack bonuses somewhat so that should help. You also have a couple options as mythic characters... The mythic arcane armor training feat makes it so you don't need to spend an action to get the ASF% reduction (and makes mithril breastplate or chainshirt 0% iirc); if you took dual path there are a couple options for getting the armor master path ability (which gives you 0% failure and no max Dex in any light armor); the enduring armor archmage path ability makes actual force armor with no duration... I don't see any reason you couldn't attune that (but if it got dispelled it wouldn't reactivate still attuned, you'd have to start that process over again like you just got new armor).
trawets71
I've always been a fan of the mithral buckler coupled with mage armor or the enduring armor ability. Enduring armor goes up as your mythic rank does. Too bad mage armor doesn't get any bettor. You can attune the buckler and there is no ASF chance, plus you can put shield enchants on it as well. I just wish there were a longer duration shield spell.

I need traits still and to read up on what mythic is as I've never had that before, I don't expect mythic to make much difference but I could be wrong.
I need more time for writing everything out but aside from the mythic traits and equipment, I have everything chosen. I'll put in a temp alias shortly.
Basically, Witch ley line guardian and sorcerer fey bloodline. Drow.
She escaped an attack on her house, got lost, and found her way to the surface as a child. She liked the trees a lot and learned to survive in the woods on her own. She knew the basics of magic already and developed much on her own, then learned some additional magic here and there as she dealt with others on occasion.
Eventually, she become known as the shadow of the woods. Not indoctrinated enough by her people, she isn't evil, but she can be harsh, given her tough life growing up. She weaves spells into small charms and bracelets. The bracelets act like potions activated when broken and affecting the one wearing them. The charms are usually once per day cast a spell items. She has made quite a name making and selling them, usually to a small handful of merchants brave enough to seek her out.
She has occasionally been hired by a local village or town guard for tough tasks or defenae against a raid, and ahe enjoys such missions. Usually she takes payment as magic items or gear rather than gold as she doesn't go shopping all that often.
MordredofFairy
...I don't expect mythic to make much difference but I could be wrong...
Quite so...quite so...
Either way, as mentioned in PM, I'm also still working on story+sample. I do hope to get done today though.
Aside from that, I guess I got nothing more to say except good luck to everybody.
Josh.Ingle
I'm at work, so I can't make my last modification, but I do plan on swapping boots of striding and springing for a shield and a couple more mundane items to store in my portahole.
EDIT Darnit, Paizo ate my sample. It's saved on my home computer but I'm working for an hour yet. I'll rush home and restore it but it might take a little bit.

No need to stress yourselves out. I'm closing recruitment now and continuing to make early passes through the applications. I won't make a decision until probably around lunch time tomorrow, so anything you guys post in the next 12 hours will be fine (just make sure to PM me or post here to let me know it was changed).
PS- there were a couple people also who did talk to me about their submissions being late (I think maybe Oterisk was one of them...) so nobody be surprised if you see a couple official applications pop up after this.
GM DarkLightHitomi
This is The Alicorn Sage.
I put the character info in this alias. Her name is Nyx Nightshade the Shadow of the Woods or nature, or many similar titles in various villages where she is known. If I get chosen I'll make an alias for the character.
Mythic is interesting I guess. I added the choices I made there.
The alias only has the decision points and not the derivitive stuff, but still all you would need to know, to know the stats. I'll look up traits and equipment, after I finish adding the skills.
Edit, lol ninjad by the closing of recruitment!
Josh.Ingle
So, question about False Focus and its interaction with the spell Treasure Stitching whilst I track down my sample post within the labyrinthine depths of a file system I REALLY need to organize better.
Treasure Stitching's material component is a cloth costing 100gp. False Focus with my Holy Tattoo lets me use the tat as a Divine Focus and have it count for up to 100gp of material components. All is well, except that Treasure Stitching targets "objects on cloth". Does the spell make a cloth in this circumstance or must I provide it? If I do have to provide it, does each expendable cloth need to cost 100gp or will the False Focus feat let me utilize any 10ft square of cloth?
TheAlicornSage
In double checking everything, I realized I forgot the automatic progression stuff. It added to my int score raising my skill points, so I added those.
I also found a few discrepancies between the witch's index spell list on the prd and the individual spell entries on the prd, so I'm going through them all real quick at d20pfsrd (unless you prefer either the PRD index, or PRD individual entries as correct). For example, Wreath of Blades is marked as a 4th lvl spell on the index, but the spell entry says 5th.
oyzar
Just use archives of nethys for spell lists. That's much more complete than either the PRD or the d20pfsrd, at least in my experience. The PRD just contains the information from the latest printing, so if a spell was added to the witch spell list after it was printed it won't show as a witch spell in the entry or if it was added after the list was printed it won't show in the list.
drbuzzard
Guess I never did a background for Wilhelm.
He's a magical prodigy raised in Sandpoint. His talent manifested at a fairly early age, coupled with obvious intelligence. This led to him being shipped off to Korvosa to the renowned magical academy there.
At this point I'm fuzzy on how the background is supposed to proceed as I don't know if it is assumed that we worked our way up to this level doing stuff from this AP or not.

Sorry for the delay all- my kids got a snow day today (we got less than a foot last night, lazy school), and they're slowing my progress quite a bit. I'll post a decision as soon as I can but it'll probably be after my wife gets home from work. Feel free to post tweaks or additional info until then (I'll check the thread in between characters until then).
MordredofFairy
I am working and have little time to tweak right now. But I had a moment today in the morning and found a few little things that somehow stayed there from first build.
In other words, I did not have time to do a complete "once-over" and re-check every single thing on the sheet. If picked, I'd obviously do the clean-up and make sure everything is completely up-to-date.
But if you find anything that does not make sense(such as a reference to a Arcane Archer ability), please ignore it.
Chances are, if any such mistakes are still in with all the time I spent tweaking stuff in the past days, I'd simply "read over it" and not even notice something is off-
oyzar
Snow day, what is that? That they stay at home from school because of too much snow? I've never heard of any amount of snow leading to closed schools here, just if it's really cold, though we are probably more used to it here. Look at the bright side, at least you get to spend some more time with the kids. Hope you have a nice day despite the change in plans.
drbuzzard
Snow days are most usually a function of the localities ability to clear the roads and keep them clear. Here in Denver we've had snow days when it wasn't really that bad, but the DOT got caught with their pants down due to a lousy forecast.
Of course places which get pounded all the time won't get many snow days because they are simply adept at snow clearance.
MordredofFairy
Weird. In most places in Europe, it basically amounts to "If the parents can get to work, the kids can get to school." and "If the teachers manage to get there, so can the kids". I can't remember ever having a snow day, even if we got surprise snowstorms. At the most, I saw a clearing vehicle drive in front of a school bus, and school started slightly later, waiting for those kids to arrive. -_-
Josh.Ingle
See, Europe actually gives a darn about education, not just looking like they give a darn about it like we do here in 'Murica.
I have a dim view of the American education system after having experienced high school with a chemistry teacher and two history teachers who would skip class to hold sports practices and not arrange a sub.
nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32
Buzzard is right, it's all about being able to clear the roads. I live in buffalo ny, we're used to snow and don't cancel school for it very often. We got about a foot of snow (around 30cm) in 8-10 hours last night, which frankly isn't that much for us (last year one day we got 7ft/2m in 24 hours), but for whatever reason the roads in our school district couldn't get cleared well enough (early enough) for teachers and students to safely reach the school.
When they create our school calendars each year they actually schedule more days than the school year is required/expected to be with the understanding that school will be canceled because of the snow several times. (When you get 7ft/2m in 24 hours it is literally impossible to keep roads clear and it sometimes takes days for people to be able to get out for work/school/shopping/etc).
MordredofFairy
Might I inquire...if the teachers and students can't safely reach the school, does that means other people can't safely reach their job either?
As in, everybody just takes a day off and stays home because it would be too dangerous to go to work? Is a snow day like a free vacation day in the US?(You did mention your wife being at work, but she could be working in weird shifts...a friend of mine working in the hospital quite often is there for almost 24 hours before going back home-)
nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32
It depends on the severity of the weather. My wife is at work today but we own a truck with all-wheel drive and live 1/4 mile from her work, on the same major road. There are no driving bans in place today so people who are snowed in (typically because they live on secondary roads which haven't been cleared yet) will be expected to use up their own sick or vacation time if their place of employment is open (which most seem to be).
When the snow get really bad whole areas will be placed under driving bans because of the danger of drivers becoming stranded and freezing/starving to death gets too high. Places within those bans are typically shutdown (resulting in unpaid 'vacations' for most employees) unless they are necessary (police, fire companies, hospitals, etc) or are staffed largely by employees who live within walking distance (and are willing to trudge in). 'Necessary personal' like nurses and rescue workers occasionally end up working 48+ hour shifts when their replacements are unable to reach work.
MordredofFairy
Thanks for the clarification. That seems really weird, but then, US has significantly lower population density I suppose. The only streets ever "locked down" here are serpentine mountain passes high enough to be beyond tree growth zone, which no sane person would attempt to use anyway under the weather conditions that cause the ban. But there's always some crazy foreigners that would do so anyway so I suppose it makes sense to officially forbid that.
nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32
Even in areas of high population density when snow is falling at greater than 2in/5cm per hour for an extended period of time it's almost impossible to keep roads clear- it just becomes an issue of not physically having any place to move the snow to. I've seen mountains of snow taller than 3 story buildings piled in unused parking lots while secondary streets have scarcely had any clearing at all.
Pardon my ignorance but are there places in Europe that sometimes get 2+ meters of snow in 24 hours? I kind of feel like if you haven't experienced that first hand it's really difficult to grasp the magnitude of it...
Drahliana Moonrunner
@Drahliana- my favorite 3.x character was a wizard/druid with the arcane hierophant PrC (basically a mystic theurge tailored for druids). that could be a double edged sword for you (since it makes me immediately fond of your concept but is also likely to draw comparisons), but I'd love to see what you come up with.
Working on it... will have it by tomorrow. Comparisons are more than welcome.
MordredofFairy
Yes, we do have plenty places that get around that amount of snow, even though admittedly it's USUALLY less than that much.(as in, we get more snow in total and it sticks around a long time and piles up, but not that much at once unless the weather gods are acting up)
Also places where it pretty much snows non-stop for significant times(week+) due to the mountains(clouds moving up against them) if the weather fits.
We have buildings collapse from the weight of snow on them. But the streets are clear.
I think part of that is the layout and population distribution. Many small villages dotting close to each other on the map, with open architecture...you sometimes see snow walls several meters high next to the road, but there's space, so...also, in the larger cities they use plenty of salt to melt the snow, then chemically desalinate the melted water at the processing station at end of sewers.

Hi Nate:
Taking your feedback into account, these would be the changes I would make to Valanthe in case she gets selected:
Abilities:
Take 2 points off Strength and use them in Intelligence

Remove: Combat Casting, Quick Draw, Power Attack, Deadly Aim
Add: Greater Spell Focus (Illusion), Greater Spell Penetration, Reach Spell, Persistent Spell
Mythic Feat:
Remove: Mythic Deadly Aim
Add: Mythic Spell Focus (Illusion)
Hope you like them.
DM Nate
Thank you everyone for your interest! It was not an easy decision but after much discussion and deliberation our new arcane caster is:
Valanthe of the Pomarj
Valanthe, please check in and introduce yourself in the discussion thread.
Everyone else, I'm not sure if there's an etiquette on reading APs as they unfold, but I have no objections to people creeping (and this version of it has obviously been heavily modified).
