I demand that we should also get an ANTImonk and an ANTIbarbarian!

Antimonk, disciplined champion of chaos. Wait, something seems off...

Well, Antipaladins have a code of conduct, despite being chaotic, so...

XD That was my point. I've always thought the antipaladin's code of conduct was... silly.

A similar thread to this one came around back when antipaladins were first introduced. Someone suggested "Reaver" and it's stuck with me ever since. Though I do hold on to Blackguard for a LE variant.

I second (or third rather) this suggestion.

I hate "Antipaladin" for the wrong reasons.

It's just that ANTI is latin and PALADIN is french.

Should be INPALADIN.

I actually quite like this one.

While true, this is english we're talking about. Mixing languages in a single word isn't unheard of.

I *despise* the PF class itself much more than the name if I'm honest. Just...ugh! i can't even...it's horrible on so many levels I'm left typestunned.

The name I can live with.

(although reaver is really solid-that may be a 'yoink')

Guys I think it's safe to say the person in cloth throwing fireballs is called "hit first" and no matter his class you'd be correct. The person that runs up to him and says "I'll heal you!" is called "hit second". Save your AoO for him.

The rest you can easily figure out after the fight when you loot them.

Try to start the looting from one end of the room and work your way to the right.

Anti clockwise.

A DC 10 or lower Kn: Local check should tell you that the guy riding a wolf/axe beak/whatever and carrying a lance is the single biggest threat to your life in the county.

Then there could only be two at any time.

Forgotten Realms had an Anti-Ranger once I think, they were all followers of Malar or some other diety into corrupting nature. It kind of got obsoleted when the good alignment requirement was stripped from the Ranger class.

The antipaladins of Calistria are actually pretty cool. Much more focused on bloody vengeance and less on random acts of mayhem.

I seem to recall a Slayer which was an evil Ranger back in 1st edition. Although that was probably from a magazine or some house-rule thing.

I will forever see "Australopithecus" in biology books and cringe.

I bet you love when people say "octopi" then.

Clinton Boomer came up with a rather interesting chaotic good Desnan archetype.

Dragon Magazine was indeed owned by TSR from the magazine's introduction in 1976, until TSR was bought by Wizards of the Coast in 1997.

It's less to do with linguistic than anthropological improprieties, but I feel a need to introduce Piltdown Man to the conversation . . .

Oh? I did not know that. The little copyright notice didn't list them on the PDF I was able to find. Maybe a wholly owned subsidiary?

Yes, but not as much as I dislike the use of the word "Unholy" when the Evil pantheon is true equal to the Good Pantheon with it's own backstory rather than being an offshoot.

So, maybe Unpaladin but Anti-holy? :)

Given the medieval historical association of Anti and 'darkness' or 'evil' (such as the Antipope for example) I think it fits quite fine if you take the time to understand it's origins.

Hippolytus of Rome during the second century was generally considered the first Antipope and that was the term used at the time.

It may sound too 'modern' but the use of the anti- prefix dates from far back in history and is totally spot in for the Antipaladin in my opinion.

As always in home games you can call anything whatever you want but if you understand the origin of the concept, Antipaladin is a perfect term. Literally the antithesis of the Paladin.

Chaotic in alignment terms really just means that beings view point favors personal freedom as higher in importance that an organized society. It in no way indicates that individuals cannot have things they find are always important to themselves and should not be taken to mean that chaotic characters cannot have personal codes that they follow. It just means their codes will stress the individual over the masses which is perfectly in accord with their alignments.

Your not the only. I prefer Blackguard from 3.5. It seems to make the class stand out more IMO. As opposed to being the opposite of a Paladin.

The problem with Blackguard is that most people are not familiar with the word, so mispronounce it.

Any better ideas?

Ramblers?
Prowlers?
Knights of the sandman?

Wild Bores?

Kender... all APs are kender lol

I too hate the word Antipaladin, seems dumb. I just call them ALL paladins and remove the alignment aspect altogether. Paladin is synonymous with a warrior of faith or a cause and not specifically just a righteous one.

Really? It's not just a combination of two words - black and guard? How does one pronounce it if not the most obvious way?

Antipaladins are aptly named. Why? Because they create an annihilation reaction when they come into contact with a Paladin.
