Smell the Glove!
It's like, "how much more black stinky could this be?" and the answer is "None. None more black stinky."
Surprisingly, it seems I survived the second cull. Now I'm thinking if I should spend my time training my mapping skills... but then it will be even more disappointing if I don't make it. I guess I'll pass this time, maybe after the next cull.

Quick question: Why not use 1s instead of Xs for surviving items? That was you could easily make an =Sum(Column) cell at the top to estimate survivor count.
It'd be cool to have a section to see what items are still left to be confirmed after a cull. There are some things I'm surprised haven't turned up yet, but occasionally things are still popping up.
I'm actually sort of disappointed with some of the culled items, since we've picked up most of them now. Maybe they're still hiding somewhere, but there were some good items knocked out. Seems unfortunate, since there are still some uninspired items floating around.

Isn't naming the items going to get them DQ'd?!? Like back always on the thread?
Einhänder wrote: Isn't naming the items going to get them DQ'd?!? Like back always on the thread? You can track items and statistics but you cant discuss details about individual entries...in essence be as vague as possible
Saying you saw such and such item is probably okay...we all know that it exists...saying such and such item is amazing or terrible because of such and such is not wise.
Huh. I always thought ven saying the name in a public forum was really bad.
Einhänder wrote: Huh. I always thought ven saying the name in a public forum was really bad. It probably really just depends on the context like I said...but I would err on the side of caution whenever mentioning the actual name of an item...it's a fine line.

The purpose and spirit of the rule is to keep people from identifying an item with the author. That way we vote on the item and it's merits and not because we know the author. (Who may be popular, or unpopular, as it may be)
This is only important for the first round as the subsequent rounds we get a chance to get to know the authors.
Ooo, another item found post-Cull II

Well, managed to survive another cull.
Congrats to everyone still in this!
Interestingly, I see one or more items have a 8/22/15 date for last seen, but the second cull X isn't marked... since I don't think it's possible to see it today AND have been culled yesterday, methinks some X's got missed? Which is good for those who think they're out - make sure of the date field. (It's less likely a date entry error happened than an X being overlooked?)
Hope for those losing hope, perhaps.

If something has a 8/22/15 seen date, then it must have survived the cull. However, for the sake of accuracy, refrain from updating any information speculatively and instead correct the error when you see the item personally.

I figured after 9 hours post cull with no reported sighting that I was done for, but sometime early this morning it did finally show up. Lesson: Never look into my item until at least 24 hours have passed. It's just not worth the grey hairs and heart palpitations it gives me.
As always best of luck to all still in it.
We've got plenty of stats on the Type Stats sheet (using COUNTIFS()).
Mine hasn't been seen since yesterday. My sliver of hope at having survived the second cull is dwindling.
I did not touch it - just making the observation of the situation. :-)
I few more have been seen this morning, just added another X.

No, discussing an item will get you in trouble, but you only get the item DQ'd if you identify its creator. Otherwise, it wouldn't be fair, because I could get some stupid items disqualified just by saying, "God, I hate the ———————————————————

Huzzah. I survive the second cull! And added an X to the list - congrats, whoever that guy is who also survived.

Naming an item is only naming an item, but if an opinion, clarification, question, etc. is included it has gone too far. Saying I saw X is different than saying I like X, comparing it to Y, listing it in a thread of snark or favorites, or complaining about the mechanic.
It is not clear what happens to the item should it be part of a discussion, but the item is expected to stand on its own. Just like it would be if the item was played at the table (because the designer won't be there to answer a question). If an item doesn't stand on its own, it isn't superstar. Voting should account for that, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be pulled because Kobold Cleaver a person made a public opinion and swayed voters one way or the other.
If I posted about the Noun of Verbiage saying it was a terrible item, I highly doubt the Noun of Verbiage would be disqualified. I'd just get in huge trouble. :P

Seriously though, I think such a statement can influence votes. Folks think "That KC knows this game, he must have a reason to hate it, I will too." Or they think "That KC complains about everything, & it cannae be that bad, I shall show it my support." Either way the item loses some of the vacuum it had prior. Another person's opinion is being weighed in the voting, which is what a discussion is. 'Tis just my opinion of course
I never said it didn't have a huge effect. I just think I'd be more likely to be banned than would the guy I was targeting. It would be a bit unfair if I could just make a dummy account, post my contempt (or false adoration) for an item I wanted out, and get it eliminated.

Erm, I wasn't talking about an item. That term has a meaning outside Superstar—consider the context. :P

Yeah, I'm trying to narrow the field a little.
Next, I will eliminate the item that involves alcoholic beverages. Hey guys! The item manipulating certain drinkable fluids is the best! This is me, discussing it on the forums!
I'm kind of like a serial killer for contest entries.
