Fair enough ... although, if someone isn't going to see the movie on opening weekend, it might just be best to avoid a thread *about* the movie, because I'm sure people will be talking about the movie and I'm sure spoilers are gonna get through ...

It honestly might be best to just avoid this thread until you see the movie ...

That's crazy talk! I'm allowed to go wherever I want and eavesdrop on whoever I like, and if I learn anything I didn't want to it's their fault!

I don't think a lot of the new comics imagery have hit Wookieepedia as of yet, nor have the novelizations.

Gone are the days of snub fighter sized snippets, where every nuance can be examined.

We live in a time that (thank The Force) is seeing Super Star Destroyer sized Star Wars blitz.

As with big battleships of old, it will take time to turn a ship this size and Wookieepedia will be hard pressed to keep up, but she will follow the course.

(That's a tongue in cheek comparison, it took me and others over a decade to convince the fan base and Wookieepdeia that the Executor was over five miles long.)

There was a great interactive guide for youngsters and parents who wanted to share Star Wars characters and concepts with their children, it included major characters, a few minor ones, lots of vehicles, technology and gadgets, and the difference between the Jedi/Sith, and it was really well done.

I had it on my phone I had wanted to share it here but there is so much media on the premier I can not even find the mobile friendly page I was on barely five hours ago.

I can share the seven best movie theaters to watch Star Wars The Force Awakens.

Thanks to the Internet we are all on right now, strange property laws, greedy folk on every side of the equation and judges who will hear just about any case, sometimes companies take steps to make sure they do not lose the property they just legally acquired to someone with an internet connection and a handful of bucks.
It happens.
Deal.

The irony of talking about this in a star wars thread is considerable.

I'll still watch shows on the network. It doesn't mean that I don't wince every single time I see the logo. It was a bad name change, period. Even if you wanted a name to copyright for your brand, there were better options, including coming up with something completely different.

Except that wasn't what happened.

NBC Universal had owned SciFi fr years. They decided to rebrand it because they wanted to change their core audience away from sci-fi and fantasy fans (who tend to skew old and be expensive to produce content for) to people who watch wrestling and reality shows like Ghost Hunters and whatever that psychic scammer show was called (who skew young and are cheap to produce content for).

It has the side benefit of being Trademarkable.

That's not a side benefit.

They were open to lawsuits every time someone used the term unless a move was made. There were also rumors that another party wad going to create their own Sci fi channel under an extremely similar name(this may have already happened with sci). A move had to be made, their haND was forced.

Star Wars isn't science fiction, so no one should have trouble getting non-sci-fi fans to see it. Anyone who isn't a fan of space fantasy, however, is likely to take umbrage at the entire franchise.

Spoiler:
I suspect the premise of the movie is finding him and that he will have a bigger role in the next one. We likely won't see him at all until near the end. I think bits of dialog from the trailers have alluded to this, "Hope is not lost today, it is found." and things like that. After all he is the "New Hope".

Simple.

Do you know how people say that "this movie" or "that movie" is the Star Wars of this generation.

Well how about we have a Star Wars the IS The Star Wars of this generation. For any generation while we are at it.

I want the silver screen to have all the elements that made my 7 year old self eyes go wide and mouth drop. I want Star Wars VII to bring back my sheer love and utter awe of Star Wars. I want the orchestra to play long and the audience to cheer wild. I want my villains properly British and my scoundrels with a heart of gold always shoot first. I want to go back and be transported to a long time ago, in the galaxy far, far away, and meet my 7 year old self again and we have the time of our lives.

I just want my childhood back for a couple of hours.

Imperial Advisor Arem Heshvaun's NO Spoiler Review of The Force Awakens

(Part I, I will give a more in depth review a week from now after further viewings.)

NO SPOILERS.

Not even innuendos, because no matter how vague I think I may be, I'm sure someone will pick up on it.

I was very fortunate to count myself as one of those who got to see the "New York premier" of The Force Awakens, and am very thankful to the kind and dear friend who got me the ticket. Truly, I owe her a lot and remain moved by her loving gesture.

As anyone who has read my posts here knows I am a TRUE fan of Star Wars in every sense of the word, but given that, I still am not blind to the fact that the Prequels were ... were not as beloved as the Original Trilogy.

What I am trying to say is that I can be critical when it counts. Do we not hold friends and loved ones to task when it is called for?

THE REVIEW

The audience I went with comprised of the New York media elite. You will be hard pressed to find a more jaded group of scum and villainy anywhere.

I am fairly sure there were a few skeptics among the fans.

Then the lights dimmed, the familiar music filled the room, the opening crawl started.

And there I was surrounded by some four hundred adults wearing expensive evening attire who despite themselves managed to reconnect with their wide eyed, opened mouthed, popcorn eating 6 and 7 year old selves again.

There were many a loud cheers throughout the whole film, I stopped my "full applause count" at six, and those were well within the first hour alone.

I shed many a tear, and the gentlemen who I did not know on either side of me did as well, with no hint of shame or chagrin.

Why?

Simply put, because after many a decades long wait, after the ending credits of Return of the Jedi in 1983, we can once again look up on the silver screen and proclaim,

This IS A STAR WARS FILM!

By the first few minutes of celluloid alone it is beautifully clear, JJ Abrams and veteran co-writer Lawrence Kasdan have created a Space Opera that is compelling, exciting and larger than life. We live in the days where we can finally and proudly claim we once again have a movie that is well worthy an heir to the (Force) spirit of the Original Trilogy.

There can be no doubt JJ Abrams is a Star Wars fan, and his love for the Saga is evident. I'm sure the hashtag "JJ did it!" will pop up soon and often enough.

The pacing of the story is near perfect, Abrams/Kasdan know how to keep the story from getting bogged down, just as they know when to give the audience what they want right when they want it. There is enough parts nostalgia, emotional investment for the characters and good natured humor thrown in the film to let me forget that Trump is leading in national poles.

The musical score alone brought me back to the decade of Ronald Reagan!

If Abram's is heir to the Star Wars empire, and Kasdan the custodial Vizer of the transition, then John Williams unequivocally remains the uncontested 900 year old Jedi Master. He gets my vote for the first human we clone.

Was it as good as The Empire Strikes Back?

Oh come on you scruffy looking nerf herder!

In a New York minute see if you can name me five pieces of art as profound and memorable as Episode V.

Was it as good as A New Hope?

Mmmmmm ... it may come very close dear friends, it may come close.

MY Imperial ADVICE BEFORE YOU WATCH THE MOVIE

Avoid the spoilers, butter the popcorn, wear comfy clothes, SMILE. No need to be skeptical or have low expectations, leave your life's worries behind for two hours, and invite your six your old self along for the ride. Be a kid again. You owe it to yourself.

The Force Awakens is deserving successor of the Original Trilogy.

From George Lucas to JJ Abrams, and everyone in between, The Force is Strong once again!

So a couple of issues have been bugging me, and now that our esteemed Baron Arem Heshvaun has seen the movie, I've finally worked up the nerve to post them. Could you please answer these questions? If the answers require spoilers, you could hide them under a tag.

1. The movie is PG-13. For Episode III, that wasn't an issue for me. I didn't feel it was too violent. However, if Episode VII has the characters, for example, discuss sex, that may be an issue for letting my youngest child watch it. Should I worry about that?

2. I personally have felt a bit leery ever since I heard that title The Force Awakens. It made me think that this movie is going to "reveal" something about the nature of the Force. You know. Like Episode I revealed the midi-chlorians. Perhaps now you understand my concern.

But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe "there has been an awakening in the Force" simply means that someone rediscovered the power of the dark side, or something like that. What does "the Force awakens" mean?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Well, I'll be bringing a 6 year old with me.

I'm gonna wait a bit, pump up sales for the second or third week. :-)
