I'm scraping together enough shekels to back for $100 but (living in Europe) another $70 for the book is out of the question for me in the same month. (Plus holiday booked, kids etc).
I'm left wondering if there'll be the possibility of buying the hardback at a discount later. I appreciate that's not a question to be answered during the campaign :-)

Same here. The hardcover will remain a dream, especially since there's no way customs won't wrap their icky tentacles around such a book. Import tax is such a bother...

I think I may want to do some funding for this ... glad I have a little time ... finances are ... strained right now. :)Go ahead and pledge now so others can see the funding level going up and be inspired to jump on, too. If your funds fall short of your pledge level as the Kickstarter winds down, you can always adjust it however you see fit. But, if you hold off on funding us until the very end (when you've saved up and know you have the money on hand), the Kickstarter may not climb high enough to inspire others to pledge, as well...in which case, the product you hoped to buy, might not materialize as fully as you expected.
Ha! Okay Mr. Neil Spicer, but before I do this, let me pose this question ... When would the money be taken from my account? As soon as I pledge it - or once the kickstarter clock runs out (i.e. In 30-some days)? If it's the former, I will need to wait for this, as my car payment is more important. If it's the latter, then I'll do it much sooner, (basically upon receiving an answer to this query). : )
Thanks in advance,

@Jason: Seeng as this is sword and planet, and I remember seeing that there will be much use of portals to move between planets, does that necessarily delimit starfaring/spaceship combat or starcraft-to-starcraft exploration and adventure? Space-hulk hijinks? Confederates of the Shattered Moons feels like it might be the place for some judicious shuttle trippin'...

![]() |

That adventure by necessity will have at least some level of inter-asteroid transport. I think it's not so much that spacecraft are completely unheard-of, but more that they are very rare and exist at a level where even interplanetary transport is pretty inconvenient. Think about modern earth technology and the amount of time required just to go from Earth to Mars. It *can* be done, but the expense and difficulty are such that the vast majority of folks either stick to the existing stargate network, magic, or exotic means of space transport (shantak mounts anyone?) if they really want to travel to another planet.

Rednal |

*Taps chin*
You know, if I were to do space combat, I might just use a variation on the Mass Combat rules - except that instead of an army, you'd have a ship. An exceptionally large vessel could be run as multiple armies, all attacks would technically be 'ranged' (because space is big, yo), but some would have more range than others, and the Commander might be replaced by the pilot... stuff like that. XD
...
Maybe I'll play around with that and see if I can come up with a practical set of rules that people who want to add space combat to this adventure could use...

Oceanshieldwolf |

Well I'm not too interested in kingdom/planet building or mass combat, or even really ship to ship combat (though it occurs tweaks to the Razor Coast add-on or the new airship rules ... someone else is doing - DSP?). More wondering whether there would be ship-exploration. Bu I see the tech-level and theme isn't really there for that generally in Legendary Planet. Which is fine. Sword and Planet it is. ZSP's It came from the Stars is more Spacefinder.

Isuru |

In this like a ravenous brain parasite feeding off the project energy. More, more!
With spacefaring craft, perhaps some existing waterborne combat rules can apply (but in 3Deeeee!)
At least one retro game uses monster rules for spaceships. Spaceships, as monsters.
Which reminds me: "Now I'm lost in some distant part of the universe on a ship, a living ship, full of strange alien lifeforms."

There are over 30 days left on this project with more than half the adventures funded. Thirty days is the entire duration of most normal Kickstarters.
The mid-duration lull is a good time for the team to line up their advertising, outreach, and previews (and some of this is already ready to go it seems). Then they'll treat the latter part of the time as a second launch. Legendary Planet is more a series of little projects than one big project.
With so much of the AP funded, the last days will probably mirror or exceed the first days. There is no way people would let the legendary conclusion adventures be delayed from lack of funding.

Thanks for posting the link, Joe! We've also linked it in the latest update on our Kickstarter page!
Among the many details Neil provides is the welcome news that the illustrious Sean K Reynolds will once again be gracing the pages of Legendary Games, writing brand new pantheon of deities unique to the Legendary Planet setting! Sean, of course, is a legend in the area of deity design, having create a slew of fantastic faiths for Paizo, Wizards of the Coast, and more, and we are delighted to have him on board doing the same for Legendary Planet. These gods will appear as the bonus article for To Worlds Unknown, and will also be featured in another support product we'll be revealing soon!
And, as always, we've got a fun art preview with some concept sketches and color tests for one of the main early antagonist races in the AP, the jagladine!

Really excited about this project from Jason and DarkSide Neil! Sword & Planet fiction has always been near & dear, and I cannot wait to see it given an AP treatment from many of my favourite authors. And it gets dialled up to 20!
I'm very glad to see that Mr Pett is contributing to the Legendary line. I was immediately hooked when I picked up "Burnt Offerings" years ago, but it was "The Skinsaw Murders" that sunk the barb in.
Unfortunately, I'm another of those furreners who was dissuaded from pledging for the hardcover due to the price nearly being doubled by the shipping. Still, I look forward to the day when I'll be able to pick it up from my FLGS, or at Gen Con. And I still hold out hope that other options may become available.
A logistical question:
I'm glad to see that the maps will be optimized for VTT play. Does this also mean that we will have permission to use them for online VTT campaigns?
I'm frantically trying to decide which players are best to recruit for this.

That is easy, on line here at Paizo. My guys are really kick in the door, kill the orc, take its stuff (yea, that is the word, stuff!) and move to the next door.

We were pretty happy with the reduction in shipping charges we were able to realize for this product vs. our past Kickstarters, by working with a shipper that prints in both the US and in the UK - shipping for our mythic books was $50 (and didn't actually cover the full ship cost for USPS), and Legendary Planet is only going to be $30. We hope that folks find that reasonable, and will continue to find ways to make it easier for our overseas supporters to get our stuff!

Is that $30 to Australia? In hardback? I vaguely remember in either this thread or the other one some discussion on being able to back for separate softcovers as opposed to one (to my mind, possibly unwieldy) tome, as awesome as people keep saying that might be. I think I might prefer much more manageable sections rather than a hefty book.
Or will a collected, KS-backer hardcover have more bonus material in it?
P.S. Jagladine look great. Need player stats for those guys too. So, to recap:
Player stats for:
Klaven
Bil-djooli
Jagladine

That was certainly in my thoughts, but we also widened the market by appealing to 5e enthusiasts, as well. We also recognize that the current consumers of APs (whether through Paizo or other 3PPs who've produced one) aren't always GMs. Sometimes, they just enjoy them for the stories and the possibility that they too might someday run it for another gaming group.

Anguish |

Am frustrate. Many angst.
I'm not even a fan of the pseudo-sci-fi setting, but... I am a total sucker for massive adventure books, like Slumbering Tsar. Better, if you took the list of contributing authors, then chose only the excellent ones* amongst them, then tied those authors together with rope, you'd likely have a raft big enough to accommodate a dozen riders.
If Pett's face down, M'rrnnnghhhblblbub will finally make sense. <Grin>
But seriously, Legendary's production values are very, very high, the authors are top-notch, the art is fantastic, the dip into occasional mythic content presents unique challenges, and the plot sounds fun. The price-to-page-count is good too.
If this doesn't hit $60k, it's criminal. It also sucks for existing supporters. To be brutally honest, at $140 (plus international shipping), the full product is an excellent value but if we only complete five or so books, it's... this semi-fractured product that... no, I don't want to think about how unpleasant this scenario is.
*Yes, yes, that's all of them... that's my point with the size of the raft.

Sounds like you've chosen an appropriate avatar name, Anguish. ;)
This is where we truly need everyone to exercise their social circles (online and in real-life) to spread the word. We're prepared to make this thing rock...HARD...all the way to 20th level with a dash of mythic in there, too. But we need backers to make it happen. So get out there and bring in more folks who will pledge. We're only 63 backers away from hitting our next backer stretch goal. And, if most of those pledge for the hardcover, that would take us past $40K and deep into Chapter 5 (which, for how we've laid it out, is about as far as most regular APs get to, level-wise).

ANOTHER GOAL UNLOCKED!
Check out the update on our Kickstarter page, along with some awesome art previews!
Thanks to the generous support of marvelous Martin Hansen Lontjern, we have blasted through yet another bonus goal, adding a fantastic 10-page gazetteer for Confederates of the Shattered Zone, detailing the blasted remnants of the asteroid belt itself, its mining colonies, and the surrounding solar system, with the able assistance of Savior of the Universe Henry Wong and a Prince of the Universe yet unnamed! If you've back at that level and haven't claimed a star system yet, hop on board with the esteemed Master Pett and let your fantastic flag fly!
The final stretch goal for Confederates of the Shattered Zone is now in view, 12 pages of bonus articles (including the latest installment of Chris A. Jackson's interplanetary romp) unlocked at $34,000, and then at $36,000 another entire 64-page adventure (bringing us up to 500 PAGES!), Steven T. Helt's awesome aquatic adventure, The Depths of Desolation!
After a rip-roaring start, Legendary Planet has settled into a mellow middle phase of slow growth. This is pretty standard, and with almost 4 weeks left in our project we are still very pleased with our progress and look forward to a fast finish. Our mythic Kickstarter added almost 1/3 of its backers and dollars in the last four days! Right now, keep spreading the word among your friends and gamer acquaintances, in person and on social media, and when you see Legendary Planet pop up on your feed make sure to like, share, +1, retweet, etc., to keep boosting the signal. Also, if you've got a suggestion for an area to share the news about Legendary Planet, let us know!
As a final note, please check out the Legendary Games website this week for our annual July sale, celebrating our relaunch in 2012. Blast off for savings from tomorrow through the 4th of July and get some amazing deals at the Legendary Games webstore!

Hi there, sorry I missed it earlier:
1. Yes, that's $30 to Australia in hardback.
2. The collected hardback will have the same material as you will find individually in the separate adventures and supplements.
3. You can back for the first two adventures in softcover as part of the Kickstarter. At this time, we are offering softcover print editions of all of the adventures only with the limited-number special high-tier pledge options. We ended up going this route for two reasons:
a. Our surveys of past Kickstarter backers revealed a very large majority that favored a single big book rather than multiple softcovers.
b. For us, printing and shipping 8 individual adventures to an individual backer is substantially more expensive and time consuming than printing and shipping a single large book.
c. Our current plan to work with backers who want softcover editions is to offer a discount on buying them as they come out as print-on-demand products.
Now, the above stated, we have had a number of inquiries about a pledge level for all of the adventures in softcover, so we're having some internal discussions about going that route. If enough people indicate that's a route they strongly prefer, we may go ahead and add that pledge level, which will cost somewhat more than the single hardback level.
