Liberty's Edge

I'll disagree with you on the gameplay improvement from Asylum to City. For me, AC felt much faster, and had more variety in it's fights, so that playing well was more rewarding.

Shadow Lodge

I didn't say that the gameplay was exactly the same, but the improvement was fairly minimal.

And from what I've seen and read about Arkham Knight, it's easily the worst of the series, due to the fact that half the game is battling tanks in the Batmobile, and opening doors to drive the Batmobile through.

Liberty's Edge

Carkour!

Yeah. Still, we can agree that the first two are awesome.

I don't know how far this thread might have deviated from the new superman vs batman movie but....

I was just thinking.....I can see it now:

Superman hops down from that perch above and walks close to batman and then....starts hopping from foot to foot squeeing going 'oh my God oh my God oh my God it's batman, eeeeeeee, can I have your autograph?' pulls out smartphone and gets next to batman 'selfie!'

Batman: Ok never mind, my mistake, I'm going home.

This actually worries me. Everything I've heard attributed to the DC execs makes me think they have no clue what they are doing or what their fans want.

Well since batman and superman exist from before the 40s, I'm certain that most execs actually grew up on Batman and Superman comics and animated series.

Previous reports have suggested that Warner execs have already changed there mind a couple of times on the directions they are taking their DC movies. So I mean...sure this will probably involving more stuff getting revamped...at least until WB changes there mind again.

New trailer with Gotham this Monday.

The trailor with mockingjay 2 was pretty cool, and actually gives a bit of plot. Mean sounding politician Jodie Foster, menacing lex luthor, a few clears action shots of wonder woman, and a glimpse of zods frozen head. Lots of fight scenery Bt bats and supes.

Origin Stories (esp. not Batman's)

... but the most recent trailer pretty clearly (to me) showed, if nothing else, a flashback Ben Wayne was having to his origin story?

Here it is:

SDCC-Trailer is here, and by god it looks glorious.

Specifically, right here. I mean, that may be literally the only backstory you get (that small scene, describing the iconic moment + maaayyybe, "and so I devoted myself to fighting crime via a symbol of fear" or something), but that scene, at least, seems to be a part of the emotional tone of the film.

Also, if this turns out to be about Bizarro, I'm gonna flip. I don't know if it's going to be "good" flip, or "bad" flip, but it'll be some sort of flipping that will actually be happening (though if it's a "good" flip, it's going to be the metaphorical version with all the happy joy bouncy-jump thing, instead of a literal flip - I'm in absolutely no state of current health or fitness to be doing those at present; and if it's a "bad" flip, it'll probably be a metaphorical way as well, likely including a rant of some sort, rather than flipping myself or a table, or the finger - the first I've covered, the second is too messy and destructive, and the third is just needlessly rude).

Anyway, I'm looking forward to it.

For the record:

Here is what I think of the movies mentioned so far:
- X-MEN: I liked X2, but found Days of Future Past and First Class to be excellent films. X3 is underrated - it's not nearly as cringe-worthy as people make it out to be. X1 was enjoyable, but yeah, it had a couple of problems. I've not seen Wolverine: Origins. The Wolverine was an enjoyable film, but my favorite part was the setup for DoFP, which, as I noted, was excellent.

- SUPERMAN: The first was... kind of okay (Brando was a phenomenon, Reeves and Kidder were great, but 'dat dialogue... though Gene's Lex was a genuine treasure with and because of 'dat dialogue...), the second was really good (though cringe-worthy Superman decisions were cringe-worthy), the third was terrible (it was an okay Prior flick, though, and had a potentially interesting "evil supes" subplot and shots that was wasted), the fourth was a childhood staple (as it was on tv)... and stupid (as it was stupid). 'Returns irritated me due to the relative youth of the actors and building off of what is probably one of the dumbest decisions Superman made in the first two films in a way that hurt his character appeal... but was otherwise a really good film. Man of Steel suffered from the worst Pa Kent I've seen (Costner was a great actor... Johnathan wasn't a great father), but most of the irritations mentioned by others are... actually not that bad.

- BATMAN: I grew up on the 60's doofiness, grew into the TAS and DCU amazing-ness, thought the first 80s film was great, the follow-up was 'meh', and the following descended into ever-spiraling "Noooooo~! Not the 60s! Again! But grim-dark!" On the other hand, the first two Nolan films were great (I've yet to see the third).

- MARVEL: Ironman, Captain America: The First Avenger, Avengers, Captain America: Winter Soldier, and Guardians of the Galaxy were amaaaaazing films that I enjoyed thoroughly. I strongly disagree with Set's take on The Incredible Hulk, and would have been very unhappy... if Ruffalo hadn't been so. good. Meanwhile, Thor, and Iron Man 3 were... decent; fun. Iron Man 2 and Thor: The Dark World were too divided - too split - to function cohesively, though Ironman 2 had a better story, and T:TDW had better execution. I've not yet seen the others.

Scarab Sages

I hope the Wayne's segment is super short. As with spidey and supes, the origin is pop culture common knowledge and an nth retelling does nobody justice.

An alternate version of the Man of Steel movie (at least until the last battle).

This. The Batman costume was hideous. Was he wearing a duster? And I don't care if he was chained and hanging upside down and naked, Batman would never look so freaking terrified as he does in that clip.

I was willing to give this a go, but this clip is a big disappointment.

Speculation is that it's a nightmare sequence.

I'm not really buying Superman looking that mean and with goons kneeling to him either.

The costume reminds me of what future Damian wore as Batman.

It's probably not a nightmare sequence. Unless it's a lengthy one.

The setup for Bruce's capture / escape is in the long trailer where he's fighting those same guys that are kneeling to Superman. The color palette for both scenes are similar enough.

Not excited or looking forward to this movie at all but I'm probably going to be dragged to it by my son who saw the trailer on the big screen, turns to me and says:

"We have to go see that Dad!"

"Really?!?"

"Yeah, Batman and Superman look like theyre bad guys!!! It's gonna be awesome!"

That politician at the beginning is actually Holly Hunter not Jodie Foster.

Scarab Sages

Ya win some ya lose some.

I'm still lukewarm on the movie. The meany superman doesn't really detract from my expectations or want to watch it. Those were destroyed with Man of Steel. Now Wonder Woman? Different story (at this point, Dawn of Justice may change my mind...)

Is there a new trailer up then?

A lot of the preview stuff seems to indicate an evil clone or mind-controlled Superman as a baddie. Then again, I'm pretty terrible at guessing how these movies go.

I would prefer if the BvS would bomb so incredibly they wouldn't make a movie for about 10 years and then CW could make a batman show, a superman show a justice league show...

Ha, so true.

At least Flash and Supergirl suggest that DC has grown out of the 'Nolan's Batman worked, so *everyone* must be grim and hyperserious like Nolan's Batman.'

One or two episodes after the Constantine crossover. I know it's less grimdark, and I am enjoying the show. However, it's a constant annoyance that so many things from Batman are simply used in Arrow.

Huntress
Ra's al Ghul / The league of assassins / Lazarus pits
Harley Quinn with the Suicide Squad
Roy going to Bludhaven

I get that it's the DCU minus Gotham, but so many things from Gotham have just been transplanted to Star City.

Well my understanding is that is actually Lex Luthors son. That makes it a little more palatable.

Is the cave troll guy at the end a recurring villain?

Since it's seems to have Kryptonian-class city-destroying capabilities and we saw Zod's corpse, I'm gonna speculate that it's going to be the DCCU version of Doomsday, created from Zod's DNA.

I wonder if the action is set in Metropolis again, 'cause, if so, that city might as well just stay broken this time, rather than rebuild.

It's Doomsday.

Well, Green Arrow pretty much WAS Batman with a different gimmick for about 30 years.

Huntress appears in GA comics
League of assasins was well done tho.
It was just a shot of two blond pigtails and a squeaky voice. Plus she is a member of suicide squad.
It's a nice reference to Bludhaven. Too bad we can't get a Nightwing cameo.

I always thought Kevin Spacey would have been much better if he'd had a better script to work with. And the dude from Smallville was a pretty decent Lex.

Yeah, I had a lot of complaints about Superman Returns, but none of them were from Kevin Spacey as Luthor.

Kevin Spacey could portray an empty glass of water and get an oscar for it. The script was horrible. But I'm giving Eisenberg a shot.
