I'm pretty excited about Starfinder. As much as I've worked on fantasy RPGS, sci-fi games and the genre in general are my real love. I've run fairly long campaigns using various Star Wars RPGs since high school.

For Pathfinder, I'm looking forward to the Healer's Handbook. I love the idea of healing without relying on divine magic, and I'm excited to see what we've done with the idea.

Ms Frasier,

I was curious about one aspect for Healer's Handbook; specifically if there will be stuff for white mage arcanists in this book?

Also, do you like cheese?

I've no idea how your thread just dropped off my radar! I realized I didn't wish you Happy July 4th! So... happy belated July 4th! Hope you had an awesome day! Anything you did in particular?

Also... Self, restart at page 12, around tacos...

Nothing much. We've had a few stressful weeks, so the wife and I just collapsed on the couch. She bought a brand new smoker that weekend because she's addicted to good barbecue and can't find it very reliably in Washington state, and she spent the day testing it out on ribs and pork loin.

Heard that on the lack of good Washington barbecue...fortunately I've got a stepdad who's a whiz with a smoker, so visits home usually involve some sort of tasty, slow-roasted animal flesh. Washington does at least get all the good seafood...but I'm on the wrong side of the state to even take advantage of that. :'(

Not really a question, but I just read the transcripts of the summaries for Ironfang Invasion you provided and I just have one thing to say:

Potential Ironfang Invasion SPOILERS!:
Starting from humble beginnings? Building a rag-tag army from diverse backgrounds against an overwhelmingly powerful invading force? Supplementing that army by courting the fey?! AN INTRODUCTORY ADVENTURE WRITTEN BY THE GREAT AMBER SCOTT?! HOLY CRAP THIS IS THE KING ARTHUR ROLEPLAYING WARGAME STYLE CAMPAIGN I'VE ALWAYS WANTED!

THANK YOU, CRYSTAL! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! *runs around flailing arms in excitement*

If you've got a character concept that you could play in multiple APs with a few minor cosmetic adjustments, how do you pick which AP gets that character and which ones you should design a new concept for so the idea doesn't become redundant across APs that you're playing?

What was it that drew you to working on Pathfinder for Paizo, as opposed to working for WotC on D&D or White Wolf/Onyx Path on Exalted/WoD/Scion, etc?

Crossposted in AMA threads: it's a Paizopaloozaganza!

Crystal.

Crrryyyyyssssstaaaaalllll.

Super-serious series of questions*:

* Nnnnnnope.

If you could have 1d4 ⇒ 3 different super-powers, what would they be and why?
(Assume corollary powers required to make a given power work are part of it; i.e. Since you'd need super tensile strength/durability to, you know, not-die when you made use of your super-strength power, you get them both when you say "super strength" as a singular option.)
Why?

If, instead, you could be a gestalt of 1d2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 super heroes, who would you gestalt to be yourself? Why? Which comic universe would you run around in? Would you prefer to be in that one, or this one?

On the other hand: BAM! You just gained 3d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 3, 2) + 2 = 10 levels in a Pathfinder class (or classes)! Which class(es) do you pick, and why? Incidentally, if you could spontaneously switch races, would you? And if so, to which?

Similarly, you won the super-lottery, and gained mythic tiers! 3d3 + 1 ⇒ (1, 1, 1) + 1 = 4 of 'em! (And you gain class levels to match; please feel free to change your previous answer if this does so for some reason.) What path do you take? (Alternate option: substitute a single tier for a simple mythic template.)

Yet another query: you monster. Specifically, you CR: 1d30 ⇒ 28 (or less) monster! Which are you?! ... and would this have been your first choice? If not, which would be?

But the wheels of fate-time have spun again, and your everything has been transposed into that of someone else! You've just become a prepublished NPC from an official source! Which prepublished NPC is it?

What campaign setting do you run around in? Why?

As a final thing: blend any and/or all of the above questions into a single ginormous question: an optional blend of a prepublished NPC, monster, and some superheroes all walk into a bar... and out comes you, as a gestalt of those guys, the race you choose, some extra superpowers, and have extra class levels and mythic tiers on top! What are you?! (Other than "awesome" - naturally.)

Equipment is a non-issue (like adjunct super-powers; what you need to do <X> is assumed). Also note that any significant others can be brought with you.

"Official" and "Pre-published" are loose terms, but general expect something that has a solid publishing company and identifiable map/world/conceits behind it (like WotC for Forgotten Realms, Eberron, Dark Sun, Greyhawk, etc; or Green Ronin for Blue Rose, but not "True20"; or Paizo for Golarion, or the Maelstrom, or the upcoming Starfinder; but not "the Bestiaries" or "the Planes" or things like that - basically things that people can find and nerd out about with you). Similarly, if it has a solid AP out for it, that, too, is acceptable (like Legendary Planet; or any of Paizo's APs). It should probably be a d20 variant, but it can be whatever you like of those many variants (True20, Blue Rose, Paizo, 3.5, 3rd; etc.). That said, if a Homebrew or otherwise "weak" entry just needs to be there due to compelling reasons... okay. Similarly other systems. Let us know why! Computer and video game translations of such (Neverwinter Nights and/or expansions/sequels; PFO; etc) are acceptable as interpretations as well.

Similarly, for comics, it needs to be superheroes that people can reasonsonably be expected to come across - "that one I made up with my cousin as a kid" is an awesome answer, and worth noting and why, but prrrrooooobabaly isn't the best choice, unless it's just so powerful that you've GOT to. In which case: sure, but bring us along for the ride! Related, the super need not come from one of the "big two" in comics, so long as the people and world is both recognizes me and accessible - choosing The Incredibles world is valid (and awesome), as is Spawn (blech); you're not just limited to Marvel or DC. Similarly "standard" powers need not apply - so long as it is clearly communicable, it's fine (even if all the field specifics aren't clear, that's okay - knowing you're powered by our yellow star is fine; you don't need to know this, but it's acceptable if you do).

Finally, presume you have the basics necessary for a happy life. Your spouse, best friend, and so on, can all be considered to "come with you" (should they choose to do so) wherever it is that you go.

Oh, and one more thing: if you lived through a Legend of Zelda (as one of the Links); which would it be, and why?

Thanks! Enjoy!

It's certainly not going to be ALL hobgoblins, but I agree that we have a monster we describe as really great at organizing into armies and invading forces, and we never portray them in adventures as anything but mooks and bandits.

Paizo hired me.

I've played games from many different companies, and sicne starting at Paizo I've written for several more as well, but Paizo was the only company in the RPG industry that said "Sure, I guess you can do this."

I wasn't exactly a known name in the industry at the time. I'd abandoned my first RPG writing career a decade earlier after a series of bad experiences, so it's not as if I was a valuable resource that anyone should have recognized or fought over. Paizo needed some grunt work in the art department, and I can grunt. Hiring me to write came much later,

I wanna play an AP as a Wizard/Ranger/Eldritch Knight, but the thing is that that idea could work in so many different APs that I feel like I have to pick ONE AP to play it in, and then start from scratch so I'm not playing a Wizard/Ranger/Eldritch Knight in EVERY AP, since that'd be poor roleplaying form playing essentially the same character each time with a slightly different face.

Since you seem pretty familiar with goblins, what's your head-canon on their teeth? Are they like humans, with a set of deciduous teeth that fall out for a single replacement set of adult teeth? Are they like sharks who constantly grow new replacement teeth? Are they like rodents whose teeth constantly grow and must be continuously worn down? Something else?

I actually wrote up goblins for Inner Sea Races, and one of the fun bits that got left on the cutting room floor was that they constantly grow new teeth throughout their lives, like sharks. Several goblin games keep score by knocking out teeth

This would fantastic!

Our skull & shackles crew would love to sail south & explore (and/or just understand where people sailing past the shackles are going)

Equally would love to play a campaign where pathfinders explore a genuinely new location and set up a lodge there

Hello Crystal. I running the fantastic Hell rebels campaing (amazing story btw , one of the best campaing out there) I have some problems making one of my players to hate barzillai or his organization , i made Barzillai to kill 4 members of the hellknight order of the torrent in the public park of kinthargo and he burtally killed 2 inocents tieflings by letting his dogs ''to have some fun with them'' But my friend (he is playing a paladin of abadar) said that they were crimminals and the justice was made not in the best way but it is justice after all.

In fact, my friend said that he consider Barzillai Thrune like a national tragic hero that is making alot of mistakes.
My questing is How can i make my player change his maind about Barzillai thrune ?

No, don't do that.

Because you *know* what happens when you ask for 's.more'.

Instead...

"In order to promulgate a buying paradigm amongst Pathfinder customers, it is imperative to promote new ideas and products in a pro-active and cohesive fashion, building upon the most excellent building block found in the city of Anuli and the nation of Holomog. Expediting this would be beneficial to all parties involved."

This kind of sounds like a problem on a player level more than a character level, and you might want to ask this player (one-on-one, away from the table) why he's trying so hard to make excuses for the campaign villain. Maybe he has a character arc in mind for his paladin, setting him up to feel personally betrayed (or he might just be a contrarian).

From the perspective of a paladin, torture is never okay, and Barzillai leans more heavily on torture than even the average Thrune (especially without any legal conviction). He's also an illegitimate ruler according to the city charter, making his a tyrant who ignores the legal due process of the city, and any lawful-leaning character (as any paladin of Abadar would be) should be bothered by that. He eagerly associates with evil (summoning devils, binding devils to his servants, ect), and is demonstrably evil himself. A paladin can see him as a tragic figure but still realize he needs to be stopped from harming others.

From an Abadaran perspective, he's imposing unhealthy and unfair economic conditions, and using state power to manipulate the local economy. He's placing restrictions on what people and sell and who can buy/sell it. He's placing restrictions on merchants traveling to and from the city. He's raising taxes specifically on moving goods across the city.

Ultimately, this sounds more like a player issue than a character issue, and is probably best solved away from the table. Hell's rebels is already a rough AP to play a paladin in, and it sounds like the player either doesn't understand the tone the campaign is aiming for or else wants to be disruptive.

I'm stuck trying to decide on a race for a Giantslayer character. Should I go with a dwarf, which has a stronger connection to some of the history and natural advantages against the titular enemies even though they're pretty rare in Trunau and, at least from your perspective, less interesting? Or a half-orc, which requires less explaining as they're a sizable minority in Trunau and have stronger connections with the opening part of the campaign, but who would probably offend dwarven PCs or NPCs if they touched dwarven stuff?
