I do wonder what Barbara Kane's role in "Gotham" is going to be. After all, Katherine Kane is Batwoman and Barbara Gordon (though that was Jim's daughter) was Batgirl.

New 52 Batman has been pretty great, especially the Owl story arcs.

I miss the pre-52 Birds a LOT. It was a great title. I have the whole pre-52 run, minus a random issue here or there.

If Huntress in Arrow wasn't so two-dimensionally written, I'd really love to see her team up with Laurel and Felicity at some point. Also, Diggle has ties to the Blackhawks so I'm desperate for them to get a version of Zinda Blake on the show.

Agreed, re: Birds, though I started picking it up when Gail Simone came on. She's such a good writer. Didn't realize Diggle had ties to the Blackhawks (I have far fewer ranks in Knowledge (DC) than Knowledge (Marvel), but seeing them and Zinda would be fun. They did reference the Blackhawks once, didn't they? Or am I making that up?

Her name is Barbara Kean; in comics canon (or at least in some DC canons given how often they rewrite crap) she is Jim Gordon's first/ex wife. She has nothing to do with Kate Kane (totally different character).

It would be interesting to see a Kate Kane in "Gotham" -- but I'd don't know if she'd be an adult (IIRC she had a relationship with Montoya at one point, didn't she?) or child (to be a contemporary of Bruce's).

Huh. Didn't realize it was Barbara Kean. That makes it sooo much less confusing. I agree I'd enjoy seeing Kate Kane, though I think they're going out of their way to avoid costumes, so I don't know how well she'd fit in. I think she did at one point have a relationship with Montoya, who I'd also like to see more of in the show. As for age, I'm not sure it matters that much. After all, comics-wise, Montoya seemed to be a contemporary of Bruce's (at least pre-52), but she's obviously much older here.

I was never much of a Batman fan. I wasn't a big DC fan at all, though I used to read BoP, Catwoman, Secret Six and Legion. None of the New 52 versions of those impressed me enough to make me keep collecting them. I haven't picked up a DC book in at least a year.

And of course, if Marvel reboots, I might stop with them too. I barely like the post-Bendis MU as is, so that may be just the push I need to get me to stop collecting them.

Here's a random PF question, since I figure we've got a lot of collective PF expertise here: is adamantine magnetic?

EDIT: And I know about Magneto and Wolverine's magnetic adamantium, but I'm assuming we can't just identify adamantium in the Marvel universe with adamantine in Golarion.

Gail Simone took a decent thing started by Chuck Dixon and Jordon Gorfinkel and made it legendary. She's a brilliant writer.

As for Diggle--yes, back in Season 1, there was a story about a guy, Ted Gaynor, who ran the "Blackhawk Protection Group" (or something like that) which was an old buddy of Diggle's. He turned out to be a baddie, but IIRC the point of the security company he was running was in part staffed by many Gaynor and many of the other military comrades of Diggle. A story in the tie in combat suggested "Blackhawk" was also the name or nickname of that particular cohort those men were involved with. Sorry I don't remember exactly but that's the gist. I remember Diggle even referencing a "Blake." (Diggle is of course was a new character written into Arrow--though I believe he has now made it on the pages of the comics, much like the young blonde geek version of Felicity Smoak; he wasn't a Blackhawks character prior.)

Scott -- I don't know officially. Normally I tend to presume most "special material" items are alloys mixed with normal steel, but I think that's just me.

On another note: leafing through Bestiaries as a refresher for many reasons, I realized it's also a great thing to do as one thinks about adventure design, as you go, "Ooh, that would be cool if it showed up x..."

I'm a DC rather than a Marvel girl (mostly), but I was only peripherally into the Bat-titles. I always fangirled over random second-tier characters, like Etrigan the Demon and Jason Blood.

I cosplayed as Etrigan at SDCC one year. That was... really hot. In the sense of "I am roasting alive in this suit".

Allow me to translate that Sportsball match into Pathfinder terminology for folks with no ranks in Knowledge (Sportsball):

You are at the end of a PFS scenario. In order to win, you must move through a doorway and activate a McGuffin in your possession in the room on the other side. There are a bunch of ogres standing in the doorway, trying to stop you, and time is running out.

Your party consists of a low-level, ranged-weapon fighter with really good stats; a handful of moderately-optimized, mid-level rogues; and a super-optimized, high-level barbarian with Dodge, Mobility, Greater Bull Rush, and a special boon that increases his CMB against ogres.

Instead of handing the McGuffin to the super-optimized barbarian so he can bull rush through the ogres, your party tells the barbarian to stand guard one room over. The fighter throws the McGuffin through the crowded doorway and the rogues attempt to grab it before any of the ogres do.

The rogues predictably fail to get past the ogres to claim the McGuffin. The party attempts a few ineffectual attacks against the ogres that now own their McGuffin, time runs out, and no experience points are awarded to the party. The barbarian is still standing guard one room over.

Question: Are we allowed to talk about our maps as soon as voting officially closes today, or do we need to wait until winners are announced tomorrow before we can take the gags out?

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 32 , Star Voter Season 7, Star Voter Season 8

I wondered about that too....

Star Voter Season 8 aka TealDeer

Related to "When can we talk about our maps" esp for us Alternates, would anyone at all be interested in hearing my item's backstory?

I'm thinking of first off putting a revised version up taking into account the judge's comments on my item, and then just tossing in the backstory for kicks. I know, I know, no one cares, but since I'm out of the running anyway, it won't affect anyone's votes.

Scarab Sages RPG Superstar 2015 Top 32 , Dedicated Voter Season 8, Star Voter Season 9 aka Rusty Ironpants

See there is a problem with backstory for magic items. The items submitted for the constest are supposed to be specific items - that is, not just a +1 keen stabby-stab, but have some special powers. That does not mean a specific magic item is unique. There can be dozens or even hundreds of that specific kind of item in the game world. With so many instances of said item, backstory doesn't make much sense and can actually detract from the item itself in some most cases.

Oh no, the backstory in question allows for there to be dozens or even hundreds of that item. In fact, one of the evil secrets in that backstory are that while some persons want you to think they're rare, unique, or even impossible, more need for them exists than one would think...

Like, okay. Winchester Rifles have a backstory. There's a LOT of Winchester Rifles, but there's still a story behind their creation. Or Fender guitars.

There is a round like that, actually... it's called "next round" for 50% of the finalists and "next year" for the other 50%. However badly or well your round went, learn from all the feedback you and your fellow finalists got, then move onward and use that knowledge in your future challenges, whether it's the next round in RPGSS, your next freelance assignment, or next year of RPGSS. Yeah, it absolutely isn't :) and part of my edit is keeping the abilities of the item in line with that backstory, but not REQUIRING the backstory for the item to make sense.

Basically, the context could serve as an adventure hook or inspiration for where, why, or in whose hands you might find my item, BUT without context the item should still 1. function and 2. make sense.
