That's actually helpful, I wish more did that.
I don't know if that eats up any of their wordcount or not. I hope not.
I kind of like that, saves me the time looking it up =/a
My item came up quite early this time around, also, there are quite a lot of nets around, I've been quite impressed with one of them, AND I just added an awesome -REALLY awesome- axe to my keep folder :p
I've also been annoyed by quite a few items, but those were probably joke items, I mean, THAT thing had to be made on purpose.
No, that's not how charges on a staff work.
Oh look, the first artifact. Despite Artifacts not being a category.
I was wondering how long it take for one to show up.
Swiss army weapon vs. class-in-a-box.
Decisions, decision.

It does not, actually. It makes no difference to word count.
thunderspirit wrote: That's a lot of gold for +2 armor.
I mean, a LOT of gold.
Then again, it is less than the cost for this +1 armor. So there's that.

ok some really cool stuff in every category.
I'm seeing an awful lot of items that add extra adjectives if an extra condition is met. This would be less troublesome if there was typically more to them than that.
Hmmm...not sure if inventing a new weapon is kosher, but the least you could do is tell us what stats it has. Damage die at the very least.
Staff that isn't a Staff vs Staff that isn't a Staff, what to do
someone reads dork tower... "I ready my treasure sack"
Item left the bold tags in the submission title.
Understandable; the advice that this doesn't work is buried well.

ACCK!
...
I'm going to blame my cat for that vote, as she nudged my hand as I was trying to click.
...
Yeah, that will work.

Definitely a number of items where you take on your opponent's appearance in the middle of combat. Very strange.

Blame Cosmo, particularly since that was post #666. :-D
Phew. I thought I had two Star Wars items pitted against each other, but one of them just has an unfortunate naming coincidence.
...an inordinate amount of "wicked(ly sharp) blades".
...lots of SAK items that where perfectly good until the creator added, in the last few lines, "Oh, and it also does this, that and these two".
...two Minkai-centered weapons.
...more Staffs and technological items than I thought.
...one intelligent item. Some more tho talked but weren't intelligent.
...my item! (yay!)
Ran into my own item a second time. Still feeling a bit surreal, but at least I got the formatting right.
Haven't seen it paired with anything my conscience forced me to vote for over it...at least not yet.

Still haven't found my item, although I have either seen people talking about my item, or my item was less original than I hoped.
Mispelled with unclear mechanics vs. hilariously overpriced. Interesting...

EDIT: Now starting to notice a trend in weapons that break off and annoy/murder your foes.

If someone writes "it's" instead of "its" one more time...

My first marriage item.
And I wound up voting for it cos its competition was essentially a Michael Bey movie. :-|

"Can everybody huddle up a little closer? The radius for this effect is measured in inches."
(A rather hilarious typo, but otherwise not a bad item at all. An easy upvote.)

First techno-weapon.
Maybe a bold choice, given how so many forum-goers seem to lose their minds, when anything remotely SF is mentioned.

Shields with mouths on them is a interesting theme this year. I actually like the fact that the mouths seem to do different things with each entry.
I wish the maximum word count for submissions was 200.

Time to sleep. This is exactly why you put the magic part first in magic items, you make Drejk fall asleep because he's bored reading the non-magic portion of your magic item's description! Stop making Drejk fall asleep! Exactly! It was that and had nothing to do with the fact it was 6 AM in my timezone!
I tried really hard to be sure my submission followed the template. I made use of the gracious offer by Template Fu *and* ran it past two other highly-knowledgeable people. I previewed it multiple times.
All this to say, the effort it took to actually follow the template was minimal compared to creating the item and it is ... vexing to me that SO MANY DIDN'T! I am very seriously tempted to downvote every item I see that is improperly formatted.
Yes, I am a curmudgeonly old fart. At a surprisingly young age.

Yeah, I get where your coming from. I tend to be lenient with mistakes, but not so much when people just haven't bothered. Items with vital information just flat out missing, for example.
Two completely uninspired items made in <75 words....
*twitch*
Staff joke-item that actually might've been cool, if not for the joke. 10-yr-old boys will still think it's funny, though.
Hello Assassin's Creed item. Up against an anime inspired item.
Hmmm... decisions, decisions.

I think this one is going to be the record holder for longest name in RPGSS.

"just a staff" vs "just a staff" how do I choose?

Yes...and given that fact that it really should work it is even easier to forgive.
Somewhere between 10-15 different disarming shields, I've seen so far. x.x
I just got two spiked gauntlets paired together. I guess that eliminates the decision as to whether putting spikes on a magic gauntlet makes it a weapon rather than a wondrous item. I think I will vote for the one that seems to truly make use of the fact it has spikes, where the other one seems it might be tacked on to make it a legal item type.

I guess Mr All bold, all the time wins over badly disguised wondrous item.
Two "Captain" items matched together. Arr!
