I am sure many folks already know, as I have made postings in our public organization forums and it has likely been shared in a few meetings, but I have been absent from play for some time and will continue to be for a few more weeks.
A couple months ago, I was diagnosed with bone cancer in my pelvis. Because of this, I have had to focus my priorities away from gaming. I now have a surgery date set for the 13th of this month. It is going to be a fairly major surgery (looking at 8 hours under the knife) but I fully expect to pull through. The doctor has told me to expect two to three months before I should expect to be able to get back to work. Naturally, if I cannot work, I will not be able to play extensively, but I should hopefully be able to resume at least a casual presence after Thanksgiving.
Should I fail to return for any reason, I would like to say it has been quite a ride and a pleasure to be involved in this community. However, focusing on the positive, I look forward to playing with you all again on the other side of this most dangerous quest.

Often times we give lip service to the expression "Real Life Comes First", and it is usually in reference to mundane things like having to work longer hours, or some other such trivial things.
Then we have real life events that are unspeakably real and challenging, and it puts all of the minor BS and the playing of games into their proper place.
Best of health, you will be in my prayers. Be strong! Although I would suggest you change that avatar to something more fierce than an androgynous Elf.

Surgery went well. Sadly, the battle has taken my left leg and a good portion of my left pelvis. But I have come out victorious despite the losses. The clerics have deemed fit that I stay with the trainers in order to learn the arts of continuing despite my impairment (Physical therapy rehab).
Probably another couple of weeks before I return with any real presence, but I shall be returning!

Glad to hear that you made it through your ordeal. I look forward to seeing you around Brighthaven when you are back!
