Personally I am fine with any delays that raise the Minimum in MVP.
I'm excited to get going but I was hoping for more VP and less M than the current Alpha provides. Here is hoping A8 will change my tune!
Agreed. I'm waiting to see Alpha 8, but I do think there's a lot more M needed to make VP. I'd be fine with a full month delay until mid-late October.
I'd like to see encumbrance, stamina usage when running, consumables, full tool-tips, and companies in before EE. If Alpha 8 includes those, great, but if not, I think the launch will play out a lot better with those. I think they need to be in before we start competitive play and there's not much time between EE and the start of WoT.

Watching the EN World interview with Ryan the other day, he said something that made me reevaluate my own stance, and I realized there were two factors contributing towards why I'm so eager for Early Enrollment to start, even if it's not really "ready".
1. I actually paid for Alpha (twice), which makes me extremely predisposed to like the product;
2. I'm already paid up for all of Early Enrollment (due to buying Alpha), so there's no question of whether or not it's ready enough to be worth $15 per month.
I'll defer to Goblinworks' and the rest of the community's judgment about when we've reached MVP :)

I agree with Leithlen on consumables, useful tool-tips, and companies. To me, though, encumbrance and stamina loss from running can wait until after we have some form of rep-neutral PvP (or just faster reputation regeneration than Alpha 6 and 7), and player loot drops. I hope we don't have to wait until the War of Towers to test PvP (without making a character unplayable for an extended period).
Note: Nope, I'm not a would-be bandit; I'm one of the folks who wants to protect travelers from bandits. Neither role can really get established until we can fight and still train.
Edit: I sent an Alpha invite to a friend who hasn't been following this message board for the last couple of years, but I advised him that downloading the game during Alpha 7 would probably be frustrating. In my opinion, as long as every player needs to keep a copy of the developer spreadsheets open at all times, just to know what feats do, the system has not reached the V in MVP. Someone who hasn't spent hundreds of hours in this board should have some hope of figuring out what to do.

I'm a little confused about the Zog test-server bit. So that will have Zog running as a test server to select folks while the Seattle server is still live? And then the following week the Zog test code will be input into the live server?
Does that mean two different clients for the two different servers??? How does that work?

Regarding on-going testing on Zog: are you going to copy a portion of the "real world" over to Zog periodically, so there're Settlements, non-newbie characters, and an economy to aid testing, or will you make some other sort of provision?
In a few games in the past, I've played only on the test server, but had to work around the emptiness. In PFO, I don't see there being any possible workaround if there's emptiness.
EDIT: All Hail Zog!

I've had two LOTRO clients living on my machine for years now, so that I can test on Bullroarer when needed, but play on Vilya with live code. It's sort of the same with Cryptic's games, but there you just select in the launcher which server you're going to, and the code patches right then as needed.

Zog will likely be a capsule universe detached from the live server completely. It will not represent any of the ongoing development of the live server.
We have some pretty cool ideas for Zog for the future but we're going to sit on them until after we have Early Enrollment released. No good would come of trying to talk about two iterations of the same game when we just need to get everyone focused on live operations!

These plus player looting, UI status effect icons, and at least Place holder spell effects for each type of AoE(hard to tell what the cantrip effect is when you just wave your wand and guys take damage). Then I would deem this pig fully lipsticked and ready for MVP. :)

I knew I was forgetting a few minor things. Yes, player looting and status effect icons. I don't know enough about spell-casting to comment on the last.

I have no interest in any of those things, personally being mainly a crafter and trader :D
The problem, and likely source of conflict, is the game can never be MVP for everyone until its fully complete. MVP for a crafter is quite different to MVP for a PvE quest runner and different again for a PvP player.

Yeah, it should all be good.
The one thing I noticed was "Our community has been very vocal..."
I hope we can become vocal in other ways, too. It would be nice to leave a community imprint on this game, but we'll have to *think* as well as be vocal. It would be nice for this game to be a truly great game. I don't think it can be without the chemistry between dev and playerbase. As that is what makes indie games good.
Lesse how alpha goes.

Starting on Thursday the 18th, we expect to open the Alpha to all users with goblinworks.com accounts and at least Open Enrollment access. That will enable over 7,000 people to experience the game for a week prior to the start of Early Enrollment and allow us to do some extensive stress testing of the game.
I cannot wait to meet these people !

hmm logging in at Goblinworks gives:
"The site is under maintenance or overloaded. Please try again later."
Yea, brought the site into maintenance mode so I can do some back end work safely. Sadly it's taking a little longer than expected. I'll let you know when we are back to normal operations.

Looks like everything should be back to normal. Let me know if anything starts behaving strangely.

So...I'm trying to get a bit more granular sense of what will happen when. My intent is to plan so that I can start the download of the new client as soon as possible, as it will take at least several hours for me to download on my less-than-optimal DSL internet connection way out here in the middle of nowhere.
So, if Alpha is being opened up at 3PM Fri, does that mean the executable will be made available for download at that time, or is there a possibility it can be downloaded earlier than that?

Based on my experience with the last two builds, they usually release it hours in advance; but it doesn't go "live" until the server is up.
Not to mention that not everyone is on PST. People will start downloading at different times based on their Time Zones and work hours (or lack of).
They are aware of the problems of everyone trying to download the client at the same time and ALSO start playing. :)

...they're dragging their heels installing cable up here anyway...
I moved to Jersey City, New Jersey right after grad school, and the city wasn't wired for cable yet. They came through a couple years later, and my side of my street was the very last done in the city...seven months after the other side of that same street.

I don't remember whether I voted for Gerald McCann, but before his felony prosecution he was reasonably popular, so I probably did. Before I moved away, I got to meet Bret Schundler when he was doing his house-to-house peregrination, and he struck me as good people; it's distinctly weird to have a beer, in your living room, one-on-one with your next Mayor.
