These look way more normal than may in other games. Sometimes you bust your butt trying to get the best gear only to discover you look like a complete idiot in the stuff they designed. I played a Republic healer in SWTOR and was very disappointed when I finally got the gear. I knew it looked goofy, but felt twice as bad after I equipped it. in Here are some examples:
SWTOR Jedi Sage Horrible headgear
SWTOR Columni Force Master Ultra Funky Headpiece and Triangular Shoulders
GW, please keep the gear decent. I will be very sad if tier 3 is clownish.

Except that in SWTOR, you could change the appearance of your best gear, and take the one you liked.

SWTOR, if nothing else, looked and sounded great.

Are these all tier 1?
If so one thing to keep in mind is that the newb to moderate level gear in most games generally produces (what I consider to be) the best looking gear.
Newb gear almost always looks function > form. As you get into the super high level gear you get the ridiculous ornamentation.
That's why I still fear over the top / gaudy gear being all we have to wear past a certain point of gear progression in PFO if we as a community do not consistently repeat that is not what we want.
This is cool looking / fairly tasteful high level gear.
This is a shiny clown suit.

Hey, if I am a high level Mage, I want gaudy! How else are the peasants going to know to fear me without first blasting most of their village into dust? It should get me the best seat at the inn with no waiting.
Now I can understand fighters not wanting gaudy except for formal occasions since that gaudiness could make it easier to hit them, since the blade wouldn't bounce off or slide off if it catches on that gaudy stuff on it.

There were a few items of armor that didn't make the list, I had a few of them myself but unfortunately I didn't take the time to look at Cheatles post until after alpha had finished. I must say for everyone who has not been in alpha, Cheatle has been extremely busy during the alpha open times and has brought a LOT of information to the community.

I am impressed by the amount of armor that is already there, that sure seems to go way beyond MVP.
Art creation isn't interchangeable with feature design and coding; the people who do one aren't typically able to do the other. So the rate at which we get new art in game is pretty much independent of the speed of game development.

The art being in is part of MVP, and the art pipeline doesn't gradually iterate up to high-quality.
That said, each armor has five permutations for two sexes and four races already; that's a freaking lot of unique meshes that have to be in before certain features are implemented. Props to the art department for not holding up features or release.
