Between Fist and Axe

Advice

So I recently joined a new PF home-brewed campaign. I am starting off at level 8, the rest of the party is level 8 through 10. Currently they have a duel-wielding Rogue, a blasty sorc, a generic alchemist, an oracle, a mystic theurge and a newly joined Warpriest.

The group is clearly in desperately in need of a front line fighter type. I been looking at both Bloodrager and Brawler as two possibilities...but cant pick which one to play. (They are both good front line tanks and are both very shiny)

Any suggestions, build ideas or advice would be welcome.

Oh btw we are using dice generated ability scores. I rolled a 17,16,16,14,15,15. (in front of the GM and another player)

The Bloodrager is my favorite new class so I definitely need to pitch in a vote for that. There are several really good bloodlines to choose from; Aberrant can give you an insane "no-touchy" zone by stacking the reach increase with enlarge person and other such nonsense. Arcane gives you some massive spell-like buffs while you bloodrage (you're basically applying three buff spells on yourself as in one turn as a free action). Destined's bonuses start to get really silly with Fate's Favored and goes well for a mega-tank with the Steelblood archetype. If you go Air Elemental you'll get to come into the game flying.

All in all, it's a very strong class with a wealth of possibilities. I love it, personally.

Bloodrager. I love the class.

If you want to be an insane bloodrager, go Primal and exchange some of your crap bloodline abilities for Rage Powers.

If you have dice generated ability scores, do go for melee casters. Bloodrager is your guy here. Brawler doesn't have much to do to maximize those scores... if you went Bloodrager, you'd have a ton to play around between high Will saves, dodge, casting level, skills, damage, etc.

Cross blooded for bloodrager is almost a must, -2 to will is ok with good will and cherry picking bloodlines is better as all of them have weak abilities.

I gotta disagree. Your will already blows as a bloodrager, except when bloodraging, and primalist, as mentioned earlier, lets you trade in your crappier bloodline ablities for -two- rage abilities.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll most likely go bloodrager. Not sure yet what kind. Leaning towards either Aberrant with the Primal Archetype or a Steelblood Destined rager.

does anyone with you have shield other?

ummm not sure maybe the oracle or the warpriest has it.

If you decide to go Aberrant, remember to pick up the Aberrant Tumor and Improved Familiar feats so you can have a wand monkey buffing you every round without having to pause your own frenzy.

Paladin would be nice and tanky, Swift lay on hands and then power attack. Smite to blow away DR and you can get your own buffs. Choose the weapon bond and you are a living weapon, or you can get a bonded mount.

Grand Lodge

Untouchable Rager Primalist Bloodrager.

Now, the Bloodrager may be a better class, buuuut...

The Brawler could be AMAZING with that stat array. The reason is you can now qualify for basically any feat with Martial Flexibility. Elemental Fist, Battle Cry, all the maneuvers, two-weapon rend, Enforcer.... with dex and strength both being super high you can be an awesome switch hitter.

The Bloodrager, from what I understand, has a shtick it does very well, but I don't think it gets as much mileage out of such sweet stats.

I'm curious, has anyone done anything yet with the Eldritch Scion, the magus archetype that uses the bloodrager bloodlines? What's the first impression on them?
