Question concerning the Emerald Spire

I was too slow to add the print pack add on and so I wanted to ask 2 questions.

1) Will there be an opportunity to buy both the flip mat and the book, even if it isn't in the fancy leather bound? I would love a leather bound book, but I am ok with something more simpler. If I have to pick 1 or the other to get, the flip mat is preferred. I have the PDF of the book, just kinda sucks flipping back and forth in the PDF as I read to view the map.

2) I have a crappy printer and would like some suggestions as to how to print out the maps in a way I can use them for a game board, like 1 inch square sized. Is there a professional business or something I can take it to or something?

I would much rather have the print pack and I understand if I am SOL as it has sold out, but I also really want to run this for my TT group and don't want to butcher it by attempting to free-hand draw in out. Thoughts, suggestions?

Both are available for purchase right now;

Do we know exactly which hex the Spire entrance will be in? Is it the monster hex NNE of V, number -05.07 on this map?

Goblin Squad Member

Probably. But the spire AFAIK won't be in for awhile and will be dependent upon us crowd forging it to get it developed.

We do need to remember Lisa told us it "may not exist for many years". While we remember "many years", we can also hide (a bit) behind the comfort of "may not".

Where are you based?

One of the UK VCs (Rob Silk) owns a print shop, but that may not be convenient for you.

Here's a link to a discussion on the Paizo boards that might be useful for the printing. Someone found http://www.bannersonthecheap.com/ and had a discussion with them on getting Pathfinder maps printed (they had to email customer service and do something to ensure that the resulting banner wouldn't be used for promotions from what I remember). These were vinyl banners which you might not be interested in.

Me? I'm hoping she meant, 'may not exist in it's entirety for many years'. And we can have community events to break through the seal to the next level as they get them implemented.

I've had good luck with:

Using a few maps from there for my Runelords game.

Thanx for the responses, I was unaware that it was being sold so thanx for the link CBDunkerson.

@Snorter Thanx but I live in the states. the UK is a bit of a drive :-)

Or a swim.

At least you're on the right side of the water for the major conventions.
Take solace in that.

That's the one. It's all croplands in middle of a huge forest with a giant Emerald Spire plonked right in the middle of the meadow, down at the base of the large mountain, because fantasy makes sense :).

Add in that the plains area is a nearly perfect circle centered on the Spire and it's clear that this isn't 'natural' terrain. The module says it has something to do with the magical effects of the spire and the portals that occasionally sweep through the plains area at random.

If I'm not mistaken, that's swampland around the Spire, rather than plains. It may be portrayed differently in the PnP materials, I haven't taken a look yet =)

Nope. if you look at the landrush map, sans all the overlays and icons, it's definitely plains coloured.

Goblin Squad Member

Ok so now I see my problem, after realizing which settlement icon was for Thod's friends... I actually thought the Emerald Spire was located in the strange swamplands between Z and Y!

I see now the 7 plains hexes between Golgotha and Thod's Friends must be the Emerald Spire. Thanks for clearing that up for me, sorry! Carry on...

You can only imagine how happy the inhabitants of Toad Hollow are not to have the Spire's traffic. And its death toll.

Yeah, forget about getting raided for the loot coming out of the EP, they may get raided for their food. "V" should be called Thod's Grocery.

If they're getting raided, not paid, wouldn't that be more of a Thod's Food Bank?

I'll be sure to reserve some of my Special Sauce, just for you.

Not if I happen to be in the vicinity when the raiders invade. Thod's Graveyard would be a more suitable description. ;)

Why? Do you expect you and Thod to die often? :-(

Scarab Sages Goblin Squad Member

Oh, Scrappy Doo.

Shouldn't you be at the lighthouse, pestering Old Man Jenk..uh...I mean 'the Sea Witch'?

Doubtful, yet possible. ;)

Thod? Yeah probably, Theodum? Not once.

2 questions to DM's in general. I was looking at the maps that were given with the EP dungeon and noticed that while the "S" isn't on the secret doors, it was quite easy to see them because of the gap in some of the walled sections where they are located. Any suggestions on using these maps and not giving away stuff that only a decent perception skill is meant to find?

Also, when it comes to using the map and hiding the sections the party can't see or hasn't gone into yet, what do you suggest? using a book/paper/other objects to cover these sections until they are revealed? Some sort of expert folding technique?

I don't normally use premade maps, though I always wanted to. I am used to "home-brewing" my maps and campaigns as a whole, which then get drawn freestyle on glass at the game.

Suggestions to both questions?

Goblin Squad Member

I use other books and paper to hide stuff on maps, and lots of them.

In the past, I have used carefully interlaced sticky notes to good effect.

Goblin Squad Member

ok. That is what I thought but wasn't sure. Thanx for the input. Concerning the secret door issue, just keep it covered or make due or what?

Grand Lodge

Concerning physical maps, I also use the sticky note solution. You can buy a 500 pack for like $2.
