It has become apparent to me that there are many individuals interested in Pathfinder Online, but are worried about the element of PvP that can happen anywhere.

I have played a lot of MMOs and I can honestly say that the most memorable moments in any game that I have had is from Open world PvP. The sense of achievement from successfully defeating a particularly difficult Raid boss with a good team of 24 people is genuinely awesome, but it pales in comparison to meaningful, large scale PvP battles.

I made this thread for people to share any PvP moments they have had that really stand out as epic memories. I know there haven't been that many MMOs that had more than just small scale arena battles, but I hope I am not the only one with stories to share.

Please do not post anything about how you had a bad experience with PvP. Lets keep this thread positive and a place where we can point for people to go that are worried about the PvP aspect of PFO and show them that it will bring about glorious memories.

People are not worried about PvP anytime anywhere, people are worried about PvP everytime everywhere.

Anyway, my most memorable moment wasn't on a MMO, but on NWN. It's when a guy killed my lvl20 priest with his RDD/BK/Bard lvl24, and complained that it was unfair to have used a death-spell he was not immuned to, because it could have killed him. Good time.

I have many such memories. I will share the greatest one of them first.

As I have mentioned in other posts, I ran a Mercenary guild named Pain For Hire in Shadowbane on the Dread server. This was 11 years ago, but I remember it like yesterday. A guild named The Black Watch was the head guild of the largest nation on the server. They had been going about laying siege to other nation's capitols and were thus far undefeated.

A guild called The Legion was the head guild of a nation that ruled a large island to the north of the island that my guild ruled over. They had helped us at the beginning of the game so I had offered their leader a Contract that we would fulfill at no cost in return. Earlier on, no one took the idea of hiring Mercs seriously, but when The Black Watch decided to siege The Legion's capitol you bet that the leader contacted me and mine to help defend it.

I got 30 high level PvP hardened members of my guild in three formations and we got positioned behind the the line of the enemy, so that they were between us and the city. There were a little over 100 of them lined up waiting for their trebuchets to tear down the city gates. The Legion and their allies were positioned on the other side of the gates inside the city, by all appearances waiting for the gates the fall and to defend the city in the choke point to make up for their fewer numbers, they had around 80 players. In actuality I had devised a plan with the leader of The Legion that would catch The Black Watch by surprise. I lead my 30 Mercs charging up at the command center of the enemy and as they turned around to fight us, I signaled The Legion and they came pouring out of their gates and attacked form the other side of the enemy.

Being a rather large minotaur that had bee-lined for The Black Watch leader, I died fairly quickly and spectaularly as every enemy caster in sight lit me up. I only managed to cleave into TBW's leader once with my axe before I was ripped apart by magic. Side note here of interest, I had actually adventured with TBW's leader, by the name of Legs, on the first day of launch and had maintained good relations with him ever since. We often found ourselves facing each other in battle and we had a mutual respect for each other that was healthy and good natured.

While I had died, The Legion had won the day. The Black Watch was finally defeated. My mercenary group was no longer a joke and we got consistent contracts after that night.

I was mostly talking about my friends in real life that I have discussed PFO with. I certainly wasn't trying to bring up old debates from these forums, as that would be counter productive to what I am aiming to achieve with this thread. Thank you for bumping this thread though.

Your story reminds me of the Battle of Alesia, but with notably different outcome. Sidenote: I still have the old Avalon Hill board-game Caesar at Alesia, and it's a fun play.

Avalon Hill games are great. If I could only find someone to play Gettysburg or Kingmaker with, I'd be a very happy camper.

I have fond memories of WoW PvP before battlegrounds and arena were introduced. Alliance gathered near Southshore, Horde gathered nearby in Tarren Mills. Massive pvp battles happened between the 2 cities and one side then another gained the advantage back and forth and eventually one side would push the other back into their city, destroying both them and the NPCs in the city. At that point the pvp would dwindle, then a bit later start back up all over again.
But if you were a regular there you got to know the other regulars. My main was a dwarf priest back then, and there was this strong Tauren warrior cleaving people in two and he sort of became my nemesis. Getting a kill on him was the prize I was usually after. In the times there wasn't a lot of pvp going on we'd 1v1 each other and just sort of hang out there, even though we couldn't actually communicate. There was definitely some mutual respect that developed in those battles.
This was on a PvE server though so it was always fully consensual.

Nice, I just learned some real life history. Thanks for slapping me with some knowledge :)

Anyway, back to the point of this thread, is that epic battles like this can and will take place in PFO. I am very much looking forward to seeing "Caesars" rise and fall in PFO.

It wasn't an epic victory, but a victory in 1v1 after being the victim of what would be considered a gank by my definition, namely an unaware victim and the attacker seams to "come out of nowhere". I told this story briefly in another thread but it fits here too.

I was a gnome frost mage, complete 61 (I think was the talent point number at the time level 70 BC expansion) point frost build. A build I used to raid in and was quite competent in it's use. I was in netherstorm farming scryer rep when out of the blue an orc shaman jumps me. Enhancement by the look, it was a tough fight. Luckily I had all of my CDs available to me at the time and I used nearly everyone. Pet was already out so that helped.

It was an intense and exciting fight and in the end, I defeated him with not much left in terms of health and mana. Just then, he used his "anhk" ability (called resurrection for those not familiar. it is a self rez once per hour or so.) He resed with only 30% life and a small amount of mana himself, but was hoping to catch me off guard and finish me. Using Ice block (makes me immune but I can't do anything) immediately negated his first few attacks, while he ignored my water elemental (to his demise.) Using the water elementals ability to frost nova (to freeze him) I then spammed ice lance (instant attack that does X4 damage to frozen targets) and killed him again before he was able to finish me.

After my victory, I went back to my farming of rep and a few mins later, after a rather large pull of mobs were killed, I sat down to eat and drink (recover health and mana quickly over time) I looked over and saw the orc I had fought earlier standing there full health and mana. Startled, I stood up knowing I was an easy kill, but figured I would make him work a bit for it. He simply waved, then bowed, then walked off and left me to my farming.

The experience, which anyone who plays or played WOW, especially on a PVP server, will tell you this was a very rare event. I played for nearly 6 years, most of which was on a PVP server and this was the only instance I saw this, or even heard of it for that matter. It made me feel good and have great respect for the player who played the shaman. He showed my respect by not taking the easy revenge kill. I don't remember his name, but I will always remember our encounter.

It is my intent to bring, and promote, that same respect I was shown that day to PFO. I hope I won't be alone in this venture.

Got to disagree with you there. Having read them in both English and French, I have to say I much prefer the English versions.

Then I'll blame my differences of opinion between the two versions on being perhaps 7 or 8 when I started reading them in French, but old and cynical (read: hormonal) at 16 when I found the English. I still dislike the English name-puns, though: they could've just left the French names that work so well.

I'll share a story from the early days of Dark Age of Camelot (DAoC).

Some Hibernian friends and I had decided to visit the frontier to do a little grinding not far from the entrance. While we were out there, I started to see a name I had seen many times before, "PersonX was killed by Plip," "PersonY was killed by Plip," "PersonZ was killed by Plip."

Plip was a kobold and a Hunter from the frozen lands of Midgard. Hunters have the ability to use stealth to become invisible and they attack from range with their bows to deadly effect. But I too had these skills; Aine McLish, lurikeen Ranger. I knew that I was in an excellent position to end Plip's vile predation upon the good and noble people of Hibernia.

I sent a "tell" to PersonZ asking where he had been killed. "The bug log" was my answer. The bug log was an old fallen tree which housed a rapidly spawning hive of giant ants, a spot famous for lowbie solo grinding. Cloaking myself in shadows, off to the bug log I sped.

Upon arrival, I saw one lone lowbie Druid pulling ant after ant. I assumed Plip would attack from behind his victim so I moved into good position to launch a counterattack where I suspected Plip would likely appear. And then I waited.

After several minutes of scanning the low grass for any sign of my quarry, to my frustration the druid packed up and started heading for home! Grimacing in chagrin from the audacity of what I was about to do, I sent the poor young Druid a "tell", asking, "hey, would you mind doing a few more pulls please?" He stopped and I could almost see the confusion on his face. He didn't question the request, however, and went back to the bug log for one more pull. That was all it took.

Plip must have sensed his opportunity slipping away because as soon as that Druid engaged the next giant ant, Plip struck! I saw the Druid's health drop precipitously, announcing Plip's attack. Immediately scanning my surroundings, I saw the dark little kobold readying a second shot. Quickly targetting him in my crosshairs, I drew back my own bowstring and let fly an arrow that struck true.

I saw Plip's health plummet like a stone but, whether from ignorance of his situation or steely resolve I cannot say, he did not move as he continued to send arrow after arrow into the poor Druid until his target fell lifeless to the grass. His objective met, Plip took quick stock of the situation and made the wise choice; he summoned his pet wolf to attack me and fled as fast as his tiny legs could carry him.

I saw the wolf approach with remarkable swiftness but knew I had time to loose one last arrow before Plip was out of my range. I let fly and watched as the arrow arced beautifully across the meadow. As Plip's wolf reached me and lunged for my throat, my arrow found its home in Plip's back. The summoned wolf vanished as Plip's corpse slid to a stop at the end of a bloody trail in the grass.

That wasn't the last time I ever saw Plip... but it was the last time I ever saw him hunting lowbies at the bug log.

Most of my better PVP memories are from space PVP in Star Wars Galaxies. If you never participated in space pvp in that game, it was very unforgiving (most ships couldn't survive being hit more than two times so evasion was more important than absorption) and had a steep learning curve. I flew a "heavy" ship: good speed, heavy armament, poor handling, so I had to think two to three maneuvers ahead and I had to make every shot count.

The most memorable encounter came in Deep Space (an open space PVP zone). A friend and I were patrolling for rebels and decided to take out the rebel station since it didn't seem like any rebels were around. Out of the blue, 6 rebels hyper in. We back off the station and head for the 0s to regroup and give them a chance to get ready (we were civilized- no load ganking). I casually mention on Pilot chat that it was time to earn my GCW for the week and that I thought 6 on 2 wasn't fair to the rebels :) Well, some of my rebels friends saw that and decided to fly to the aid of the rebels and our 6 enemies became 12. The battle was glorious- 2 and a half hours of 12 on 2, and my wingman and I managed to end the evening with a 47-7 kill-to-death ratio. Most fun I have ever had in a game...blood pumping, tense, and, despite that, everyone was civil to one another.

Another memorable (for the wrong reasons) incident came when I ran across an Arc Fighter in Deep Space. Normally, this wouldn't be something that I would really remember, but at the time the hitbox of the Arc was bugged, as in it was the size of an astromech. Imagine that the only way to destroy an X-Wing would be to hit R2- that is the kind of luck/aim you needed to kill them at that time. Most pilots didn't fly them in PVP because any kills they got wouldn't be considered clean by the pilot community. I engage anyway and for a half hour, I futilely try to hit him with my cannons and manage to dodge most of his return fire. He finally landed a solid hit on me and was targeting my engines, so I had lost a lot of speed and my handling was bad. So I decide that I'm going to end this by using missiles, and nail him with 3 Image-Recs, finishing him. Then came the insults and profanity because I had dared use missiles on him (missile use was generally frowned upon because of their mechanics). When I told him to come back in a non-bugged ship if he wanted to settle things without missiles, he decided to badmouth me on the pilot channel. Fortunately he didn't get anywhere with it because I was really well known among the pilots of the server and had a very good reputation. But it still struck me how some people can't handle losing in game. Up until that point most pilots on Shadowfire server were good sports, win or lose. Heck, most of us helped each other build their equipment, talked about improving tactics and builds, and were the first to say "Good Fight" when we were bested.

I'm hopeful the PFO will have civility within the community, regardless of whether you are part of the winning or losing side of a PVP fight. I'm encouraged by what I've seen on the forum so far. Even players whose in-game activities seem to be in opposition of mine appear to want to keep things civil amongst the players, even if our characters will be fighting.

This is exactly what I am hoping most of the PvP encounters will be like in PFO. Of course it can only happen if players have the right mindset. We need to all encourage that good sportsman like conduct in each other to ensure that PFO is the rewarding experience I know it can be.

Thanks for sharing. It makes me regret not playing SWG haha.

One of the Greatest PvP moments that I had, was in Darkfall.

The top Mercs, "The Mercs," "Afghanistan," and "Rainbow Ninjas" sponsored a PvP tournament at the center of the main land. There was this massive set of chains, each link the size of a volkswagon, you had to climb to get to the center of this great mountain, with this dead city up there. At the center of that city, was a chain going up to a center platform with an arena in it.

The guys I mention sponsored a PvP tourney inside that Arena, and asked the top 2,000 PvPers to come join them, each bringing 150 gold for the entry fee. On the big night, my Guild sent 5 people, and the PvP was so heavy and so crazy, at roving bands of PKers roaming the area trying to kill everyone and take their entry fees. After a good two hour battle, we finally made it to the area, only 3 of us left.

As far as I remember only about 100 people made it, and so the PvP tourney began. I fought this crazy heavily armored, but slow got in my first round, ended up taking him out, but in the next round I died to a ranged magic user, lucky enough we bound in a neutral city near the center, so it only took me an hour to get back lol.

My friend ended up winning a good portion of the winnings, because he took first place. The Mercs announced to the whole server that we had 10,000 gold, and they weren't going to protect us after we came of the mountain....we were pissed, but outnumbered to do anything in response. So we left....

The next four hours were some of the most stressful and fun of my life. We had to fight off at least 300 people looking for that 10,000 gold in a swath from the center of the mainland all the way to our home on Yssam. It was so stressful, we had to constantly hide and let people pass, and we kept getting found by groups of 2-3 and having to PvP, and then rest. The worst part was going through the Orc Lands, even though we were officially allied with them, a lot of their members were crazy, and willing to kill us for that gold.

That last half hour stretch crossing the water, people following us, and trying to get our own Clan members to cover us, so crazy, and so epic.

That sounds crazy intense!

I really like the idea of player run events like the PvP tournament you describe. I will have to start another thread trying to promote the idea of holding a tournament every 3 months or so in PFO. I will wait until the game has started though so all the rules can be hashed out properly.

Thanks for sharing, just the sort of epic story this thread was made for.

In tibia, I once dared to delve into the depths of the world. There I encountered a man doing battle with a terrible monstrosity. The struggle that took place before me, was deadly and fierce, the kind which are written down in songs and great legends! So of course I waited until it was over and killed the heroic champion as he stood victorious over the fallen beast. Thus the demon's horde and the magical items of the champion, was mine to keep!

But as I lay my hands onto the champion's great sword, I felt a presence whispering into my very soul... I knew then the champion would rise from the dead and seek to destroy me.

Being the cunning sorcerer I am, I fled the continent. Yet still I was haunted by that presence in the back of my mind. It was only a matter of time, before his scrying would locate my whereabouts. And so I made my stand. I offered most of the loot I claimed from the champion to a local mercenary guild. With their help, I hid out in a small cave out in the country side.... Then we lay in wait.

It was not long until the champion appeared, his eyes burning hot with righteous fury. But he had not expected me to get help and together with the group of sell swords, we managed to best the champion, who even outmanned slaughtered a few of them.... But the fight was over. The champion conquered and defeated once and for all...

On a ooc note, he had lost so much gear and xp from both these deaths, that he raged and never logged in again... Closest I've ever gotten to perma death.

Here is another fun story about a situation that can only happen in an open PvP sandbox game.

This one took place in Shadowbane as well. My guild was contracted to help attack a city. It looked like it was going to be a hopeless effort as the guild that was about to be sieged joined the big, bad nation ran by the Black Watch. Which of course meant that we could expect significantly more people showing up to defend the city then we could handle. I talked with the guild leader that had hired us and we decided that we would still attack, since it would still be fun and would give his guild some siege experience.

As we were setting up the trebuchets and I saw more and more red dots show up on my mini map, indicators of TBW summoning in more and more members of their nation, I came up with a crazy idea. I consulted the guild leader I had a contract with and after he laughed he consented to it.

I messaged Legs, the leader of the TBW, and made a comment about how the defending guild had only joined his nation today for help defending their city and would probably leave the nation tomorrow. Legs said that he knew that, but he was bored and wanted to fight someone. I couldn't be more happy at this response as it let me segue perfectly into the crazy idea I had earlier.

I challenged Legs to single combat. If he won, I would take my Mercs home. If I won he would take his guild members home. I had nothing to lose, and I had always wanted to test myself against the leader of the biggest nation on the server.

We squared off against each other in front of the gates of the city. Dozens of defenders watching from atop the walls and dozens of attacks huddles around trebuchets a good distance back. Just me and and my nemesis. Somehow none of the other players present interfered, I kept expecting to see assassins stabbing me in the back from stealth, but it never happened.

We fought for what seemed like hours, but was probably only a couple minutes. It was a very intense fight where we were using every trick we had learned and some that were formed on the spot. Legs was dodging most of my attacks and I was parrying enough of his attacks that our health bars were creeping down at a snails pace. It quickly became apparent that his sheer number of attacks were taking more of a toll than my powerful slower hits, due to his dodge. I realized that if the fight continued as it was, I was going to lose. As my health dropped precariously to zero I was keeping an eye on the cool down for my Battlerage. It didn't look like I was going to get it in time so I switched stances to defensive stance and used a cool down power to increase my parry chance, but didn't let me attack. As I parried almost everything that little rogue through at me, I prepared to unleash a rapid combo as soon as my Battlerage popped. Finally with barely enough hitpoints to survive one hit I hit my battlerage, which upped my maximum hitpoints during the effect, also healing me. I switched to offensive stance and did a serious of attacks that reduced his dodge chance, then I hit him with my most powerful attack. If he dodged it, he would be able to reduce the rest of hitpoints rapidly. If he didn't then it should be enough damage to kill him.

As his corpse hit the ground there was a moment of stunned silence, then the chat box was filled with exclamations of surprise and /cheers.

Legs got summoned back and after coming out front of the city gates to thank me for the great fight, we bowed to each other and he took his troops home.

We won the siege fairly easily after that.

Stories like these, with the intensity of "moment" (whether you win or lose), are making me more interested in exploring PVP seriously. Trying something different this time around. I still want to see what it takes to get rich and get my "Family" rich in PfO, but there are many things that I haven't done (in other games), yet am eager to embrace for this one.

That's actually really funny, I had a similar thing on a NWN server. In my case it was a role-play server during a larger event with a dungeon master and about 6 players in total. As a quick note, this particular server allowed up to 30th level characters and was run as a persistent world. Since it was role-play based, you could also apply for ...unique races and whatnot making for some interesting characters and situations.

It's a bit blurry being so long ago now but we were investigating a tomb to harry some baddies that were stealing an artifact buried there. We get so far in and find out these baddies worshipped a certain deity. Turns out one of the people working with us actually worships said deity...and promptly switched sides and began to attack us.

The foe in question here was a bard/dragon disciple (black)/blackguard. They were level 30 with the devastating critical feat. Anyone who has played Neverwinter at those levels is already groaning. Basically if they critical hit, you need to make a really high dc fortitude save or die instantly (it is based off their strength stat and you need at least a strength of 25 to take the feat in the first place). Plus the dragon disciple gave her a +8 to strength. The save ends up being in the 30s to 40s long story short.

Most of the other players along were level 18 to 25. One other was 30, but she was a cleric/mage hybrid...and the first to get hit with a crit soon as the blackguard changed sides. She dropped instantly.

My character was the other level 30 with the group. A kobold. Specifically, a level 20 monk/10 rogue. Damage really wasn't my strong suite...

Within a minute I was the last standing (mostly due to darting around a corner and into stealth). The battle went on for about 5 minutes total mostly due to me cheesing stealth and some items (thrown items that created an area of darkness). Basically I was using the monk speed and darkness globes to move in, get a sneak attack or two and dart out with the occasional stunning fist. She kept healing with potions.

Eventually she failed a stunning fist roll (natural 1) and after that I was able to drop her with a flurry of sneak attacks before it wore off. I used some raise dead scrolls (usuable by anyone in NWN rules) to get the rest of the party back up. The GM was sending me private messages laughing and how they couldn't believe I won. Felt awesome and was a lot of fun.

Lag wasn't as much of an issue, but in these large scale battles the game client would crash fairly often. The dreaded "SB.exe error". This was over a decade ago though, so I am hoping that technology and server hardware have improved.

Damage really wasn't my strong suite......

I have so much stupid PvP anecdot on RP persistent servers... A few month ago, with my lvl 16 cyricist priestess, I make an obvious trap, to a 22 weaponmaster drow whom I already screwed 2 times. So he comes, totally prepared to kill me, with buffs & whatnot.

I tell him : "Ok, you're too easy to kill, I don't want to have to hurt you again, I just want your boss, so give him to me."

"NAY, this time, I came prepared, you can do nothing !"

"Really, I can. Last chance."

"No, you will die !!!"

Then, he starts to come at me. I have nothing, not even a protection against evil. And I cast my greater sanctuary.

"Ahah, you will have to come out eventually ! You can't get out !"

... It is then, that I used my 25 balor invocation that I bought earlier to a mage. I don't have protection against evil, so they are not bound to me, which means that I can invoke as many as I want. It is not an aggressive spell, so I stay under my greater sanctuary. Which means that the Balors can't target me.

Poor guy. He died at the 7th "implode". He didn't even understand, he thought that it was a DM intervention.

Haha, I recall some of the villains doing that near a friendly little settlement on one of my earlier servers. It was sort of surreal being like a 3rd level newbie and watching this balor stalking across the grassy plains chasing a deer down the npc guards chasing after it and doing pretty much nothing to stop it whatsoever.

In Shadowbane I played an Aracoix (birdman) Warrior (birdman with full plate) named Bloodwing. One cool thing about Shadowbane was that Aracoix and certain classes could fly. Another cool thing was that the walls surrounding a city had walkways to fight from like actual castle walls.

So during one massive siege in which I was on the attacking side I notice there are mages flinging spells safely from the top of the enemy walls. I rushed up to the wall then went around to the side of the city, away from where the main battle was taking place. Once I had positioned myself tight against the wall and squarely below my target I launched into the air to say "hello" to the mage standing there. He didn't even know what hit him and I can only imagine his surprise as a Warrior suddenly appeared in the air next to him. It didn't turn the tide of battle but it was a personal victory for me and a story I'm fond of telling.

You all sure are doing a good job making PVP sound appealing.

I will begin with my first recorded EVE Online combat kill and loss:

Pirate Coalition Kill

This kill was recorded on 11/5/2006 when my character was a little less than 2 months old. I was a member of the Wolfpack Guild, and it was a member of the Pirate Coalition Alliance.

Although I do not remember the particulars of this specific battle, I was likely piloting a Rifter (frigate), the Battleclinic did not record my exact ship but it did mention it was a frigate.

My first loss was in a partially fitted Cyclone, also during my time with the Wolfpack Guild / Pirate Coalition.

First Combat Loss

Lessons Learned: Even back in 2006, long before jump to zero or any of the other "watering down of PVP", a young and inexperienced pilot could venture off into Low Sec space and enjoy a life filled of adventure. Wins, losses and many draws... made no difference really. It was all better than blasting rocks with mining lasers!

Ahhh... Here is a funny one...

Friendly Fire Kills

This is a good representation of the cluster f*** that is / was faction Warfare on the Minmatar side c. 2008.

This was during my very brief stay with the 17th Minmatar Tactical Wing; fighting for the control, of a station in Amamake (.04) and I had been alpha striked by my own side.

I don't blame them entirely. There were over 500 ships involved in this battle, many of us were new to large scale PVP and the faction warfare was new.

On my newer, less experienced character, our gang scored this kill.

My First High Damage and Final Blow Kill

Lesson Learned:

The nature of small gang PVP in EVE's LOw sec space is that flying solo is not advised! Even in a group or pair, there are still risks.

Birdman in fullplate? Didn't see too many of those in SB, but I bet you looked pretty darned cool flying around. I hated trying to fight flying mages since I had no ranged attack. Seemed like you were their worst nightmare though.

Thanks for sharing Ravenlute!

Were you a one-man wolf pack?

This is a lesson that everyone should take to heart for PFO as well.

"How I learned to stop worrying and love the PvP"

In Age of Conan, I was playing a priest questing alone in some ancient ruins atop a mountain. Then came a quite infamous bear shaman (melee healer, paladin-like), known for mercilessly killing anyone he came across. I knew of him but I'd never met him before in the game. Naturally, he attacked me and as my heart started pounding I first felt really upset that he attacked me for no reason, I felt it was unfair and that he was ruining my gaming experience.

I did not, however, play possum and just take the beating. I gave it everything I had, throwing spells around and kiting like crazy to avoid his attacks. My healthbar went down and up, down and up, really close to emptying completely many times. But I noted that he was really close to going down as well and he had to also desperately try to avoid my attacks by ducking for cover and such.

The battle raged back and forth, all over the ruins. Mobs would aggro us and die in the crossfire. I don't know how long we fought but it felt like forever. Finally we ended up some distance apart from each other and for some reason both of us ceased fire. Then we /bowed and /waved and he ran off. I was out of potions and too shook up to continue my business but really happy that he had jumped me. There are few PvE encounters that I can recall as vividly and with the same pride and happiness as this fight.

A Priest of Mitra versus a Bear Shaman?! Epic!

Age of Conan did a great job of making healers effective in dealing damage too. I wish I could have seen that fight between you two :)

Thank you for sharing!

No, at the time we had 17 or so members. That corp was vacated long ago, and may not be closed because the admin never shut it down.

I was trying to be funny, making a Hangover reference.

But you went and ruined it by answering seriously.

Way to go, Ruiner.

I am shamelessly bumping this, because I want to read more stories from you folks. Don't be shy. Tell us about a great moment you have had in PvP, it doesn't have to be epic, just meaningful to you.

Ok. It is definitely not epic.

This one time in Darkfall....

I never was much of a PVPer in that game. I was "all in gathering and crafting". As time went by, I slowly built some Baresark (warrior) skills. I was working solo on my "Kill 30 Hill Giants" achievement. They were still very tough for me. I had to try and pull them off one by one. Each one almost always beat me. It was foolish to do it alone.

So, I am wearing one of them down, almost thinking: "Hmmm... maybe I better disengage, heal and try again..." All of sudden... WHAM!, wham, Wham! I am being attacked from behind!

Totally panicking I flee the giant, get a bearing on my attacker and decide to FIGHT! Set up for PVP? NO. Not even any potions quick slotted. Had to actually open my pack and find them while we danced around and dodged the giant. It took a few minutes but I started to get the upper hand and he fled.

It was quite shocking when I had time to look at him and recognize him as a guy I had helped do some achievements (just for him, and he a total stranger) the night before. Enraged, I went after him, and finally beat him down.

First player that I killed in Darkfall: "Sir Salaryman"

He was not even geared well, or near me in prowess (exp), but I was pretty satisfied when I refined all of his crappy gear into ingots, leather, and wood.....

Ah, the sweet taste of justice!

Hopefully Sir Salaryman found that to be a learning experience haha.

Since everyone is sharing their epic PvP victories, I'll do something else.

I'd been playing Darkfall for a couple of weeks, and obviously didn't have many skills yet. I needed a small cash injection, and decided to go on a 'naked' treasure map run - I liked the exploration side too. It took me all the way to the island in the north west (I forget the name). Just as my map started pulsing a little faster to show I was really close, I spotted a guy charging towards me on his mount, and the first arrow flew my way.

Well, I jinked and bobbed, and got a few shots in myself, but it was just delaying the inevitable - he had over 100k prowess and I had less than 20k. He killed me and had a look at what I was carrying - bugger all, apart from the map, which was a small one. I was expecting disappointment and a few sarcastic comments in chat.

He did contact me, but proceeded to give me a run down of what to do when map running, a few other hints and tips, and offered to give me my map back. Not only that, but he later ran point for me on my first large map - and wouldn't take any of what I found as thanks. So not a PvP victory in the traditional sense, but a PvP victory nonetheless - I found a new 'buddy' by getting killed...

I think that might be a very constructive way to approach things if you have reservations about PVP. It isn't the End of the World if you get surprised and beat. Many will be friendly if you chat them up after the battle. Sure, there are jerks full of "hate" for everything. Well... let them go and don't internalize. Get better (or get friends) and get them back if that is your thing

You can also learn and make a quasi (possibly better) friend...

Interesting note: I found "Sir Salaryman" on the Banhammer.com list a day or two after that incident for "cheating".

That is a great experience. I hope that there are a lot of players in PFO that will not only help people PvP better, but be accepting of that help as well.

Thank you for sharing Lhan.
