Advice

A near trick for the unscrupulous necromancer(any body deling in undead controlling and creating really).
1: Make or hijack a powerfull undead with some sort of create spawn ability.
2: Find some poor sods that no body will miss slaves, convictet criminals, a Remote village or some beggers you can Snatch of the street.
3: And let your new friend make some loyal followers.
4: do step 2 and 3 until you feel ready.
5: take over part of the World.
6: spend your time as Evil overlord being afraid of the Day where some adventures kill the only undead you control and all the others turn on you:)

Am i the only one that like this idea? Or is it just so old that you all used it back in the Ad&D days?

It's not a terribly original idea. This is essentially the placeholder villain type for any Big Bad.

I see this as a villain type often enough, but nobody ever lets me get up to anything like this as a PC, so I stopped bothering a long time ago.

I have had this plan, like most of us i guess, since i first read a monster with a create spawn ability that allows it to control its offspring.
And i just realized that i have actually never played in a game or read a scenario where the guy with the undeads controlled them like that.
A first level cleric with the undead Master feat can control an army of wraiths.
But if you guys use it and find it dull then pehaps i am just a bit behind:)

As a PC, I would advise you to NEVER Command an Undead that spawns. Every day it gets a save to break free, which eventually it will (even if it has to roll a natural 20 to do so!) If it has spawned an army, that's a potential TPK on your hands.

Of cause you need to be careful but if you wanna be an Evil bastard then you need to make some of the Evil bastard mistakes.

If you are the type that worry about the concequenses then you wouldent be an Evil cleric to begin with.

(I miss my Overlord minions!!! Btw, are they ever going to make an Overlord III?)

There are unconfirmed rumours that there might be Duncan7291.
