I imagine their master (Vader? Or someone yet unseen?) would train them up, and then graduation would be "all apprentices fight to the death, keep the last one standing." It still isn't clear if they are Sith or something else.
It's interesting though that Ahsoka doesn't self-identify as Jedi either. Maybe they're building to more complexity in the Force than just Dark Side vs. Light Side, Sith vs. Jedi... since that old outlook has too many shortcomings/problems (imbalance?).
well said.
Mary Poppins lightsabers around the thread

Yes I think you are. Sorry.

it is not the first time noone shared my vision, and will not be the last.

As long as we are on the topic of the silly MaryPoppinsLightsabers. Let me just say how contrived they were being suddenly usable to fly when they weren't before, or how impractical they are since putting a tiny repulorlift device into your weapon means either attacking OR flying not both. They could have installed the flight system into boots or a pack and done both.

I'm trying to avoid spoilers, but when you say flying lightsabers, do you mean like my favorite attack in Knights of the Old Republic?
Because I think that form of flying lightsabers is even more satisfying than Force Lighting (which I also love).
But both attacks still falls short of my favorite attack form, which are also the three most beautiful words in the English language:

Think a circle with blades coming out at opposite ends. Put a handle in the circle that allows the circle and blades to spin about rapidly. Use as helicopter.
Everything I have seen and heard of Rebels makes me glad I dropped the show after the first two episodes.
you are missing out.

I think I might like it because it was done in v gundam first.

I like them too. I figured it's a unique Inquisitor force power, weaving the force around the lightsaber blades so that when they spin they can get lift.
Everybody please remember: Star Wars is for children, please retain your sense of wonder and whimsy while watching it.

"Star Wars Rebels" may be on a childrens' channel, but it's thoroughly good enough for adults to enjoy. It's nowhere nearly as silly as "Teen Titans Go!" with some pretty serious storylines at times. Sure, they have comic relief with Chopper the Droid, but things don't always have happy endings and are sometimes even tragic to a degree. So I wouldn't say it's strictly for children. Like Freehold DM said, a sense of wonder is necessary to enjoy the series, and I would extend that to the movies, as well, though the midichlorian thing sure crushed that for some people.

They could be taking a signal from the original Lucas EU (as opposed to the Disneyfied EU)...where the Emperor had a bunch of Assassins called the Emperor's Hand.
A bunch of force trained assassins who were not Sith, but used the Force (aka Mara Jade).
It is likley the same than what happened with Count Dooku and Ventress. He was a Sith and she was his underling with some training in the force but no Sith.

I've enjoyed this series so far. So has my boy. The season two finally was pretty kick ass. As I did not watch the Clone Wars series, I'm not up to speed on how Maul was alive, although I knew he was alive.
Yeah...I found it a rather weak way of him surviving (being cut in half, and you survive through force of will...
Puts Anakin's survival to shame in comparison...

Anyone that 'dies' by falling into a pit or chasm is 100% not dead.
In our Star Wars game, I already told my GM that I won't accept Darth Maul is ever dead even if I see a corpse - the group will chop the body into tiny pieces before we believe he is dead. Apparently large pieces with vital organs in them being cut off isn't lethal to him...

Kalshane |
I really enjoyed the finale, though put me in the "helicopter lightsavers are silly" camp.
I love how they used Vader this season. He was "crap your pants" scary to the cast and they backed it up. The main characters were never able to beat him, simply survive him.

I'd like to get hardcopy as well.
Still haven't moved totally into the digital age I suppose.
I'm in the same boat. While I've gone more digital with my music (simply because having access to my full musical library at one time, rather than a single album is really nice) I still prefer having a physical copy of movies, tv shows and games.

Oh it had good moments... it just wasn't ALL good.
** spoiler omitted **The series also has yet to explain where the Inquisitors fit into the universe and dark side. There are always two Sith a master and an apprentice. They aren't Sith but clearly dark side trained... they did something similar in Clone Wars with Asajj Ventress and Savage Opress. What is the difference here?
I believe the comics explein it better basically amoung there other jobs (Hunting down surviving Jedi and force sensetive individuals) each inquisitor is a potential replacment for Vader (Since the entire crippling/cyborg thing was not part of the emeperors plan for him), Also remember palpatine has a long history of only kinda vaguly following the rule of two.

On the inquisitors, the entire franchise, while harping the rule of 2 over and over again since they came up with Bane, has had a ton of non Sith evil force users. They may have had limited access to the greater secrets of the dark side (ventress and inquisitors) or may have been secret apprentices (maul and starkiller), but they are there just like non Jedi good force users.

Plus, villains and rules don't exactly get along - a complete disregard for rules is practically a requirement for villainy. The rules they care about are the ones they made up themselves, and even then, the rules are for the minions, not the master.

Holy Cow THRAWN!!!!
(Old wizard just pee'd as little) ;P
Sorry, I liked the Expanded Universe. I can't believe that they kept something from it! :)
There are several ideas from expanded universe that made it into The Force Awakens - but with all the good to great stuff in the EU, there was also a lot of garbage. Putting the good stuff back in while (hopefully) leaving the bad stuff should be a good thing.
