I can't access the link from here.. have to check this tonight. So this list is the fails only right now or has it grown into a full list of all items? Thought I read somewhere in this string about a full list.
Also I would certainly down load a composite of our items. There is a ton of good work here and seeing it compiled into 1 document would be worth a few bucks to me.

No, this list is of the items seen since the cull, the "fails" are not a part of this list.

"fails" is a bit harsh, don't you think? IMHO, people succeeded just by having the guts to enter the competition.

I agree. It's why I put "fails" in quotation marks. Nobody failed here. They just didn't make an item that appealed to many people. That is not the same thing at all. Should have been clearer there. Thanks Zahir. :)

"The Cull" is a bit harsh too. By Google definition it means:
Cull
noun: cull; plural noun: culls
1.
a selective slaughter of wild animals.
an inferior or surplus livestock animal selected for killing.
That's harsh.

My math could be off (so please forgive me if it is), but the list shows 508 items (thus far). So, I think that means that any one item on the list has about a 6.5% chance of being in the top 32 (assuming there are no other items not listed). Adding two more items to the list drops that to 6.47% which is about the same.
Wasn't a math major so please forgive me if I did that wrong.

This just in: making top 32 is statistically more likely than rolling a natural 20.

640 total items would be the point where those would be equal.

I got 6.3%, rounded up slightly.
Mine might be due to rounding errors, as I rounded at the 10,000th's place (0.xxxx) for percentages. But at least we can agree that it is above 6% right now.
Edit: I know there is a calculus formula I could use to get a more accurate answer, but I took calculus about 2.5 years ago and don't want to look back at it unless I have to. Granted, it probably would have been faster and easier than having 32 fractions to add together...

I figured out where you got the 6.3%. The 32 items that make it would comprise 6.299% of the 508 items on the list.
I got the 6.5% (really 6.49something%) by adding the probabilities of any one item landing each slot. Basically: (1/508)+(1/507)+...(1/477).

You are right. You did a probability. I just did a simple percentage. I wasn't a math major either. Gee, I hope I didn't multiply to get my item's caster level.

That's nothing... Add some amazing back story and you've got an 1100 word entry...
Not that I would have any personal knowledge of such lunacy, mind you. Something like that could only happen if you got all excited about the contest and started writing before you read the rules.
Who would do such a thing? Not me...

So, what's the longest word count for an item in RPGSuperstar history?
Based on no data whatsoever, I'd guess...between 1000 and 3000.

Just to be safe, I would wait to do something that might get you disqualified. There is a chance that people have seen your item, but didn't add it to the list. However, you are allowed to show your friends privately. Just don't post it on facebook or somewhere that anyone has a chance to look at it. Use private e-mails, or face-to-face. There is always hope, so just hold out until the 21st!

Because I don't have google access, so I can't add to the DB.
I've sent the list to 5 people, so someone should be updating soon.
I'm up to 531 seen with 19 on the list already that I haven't seen.
