Ruins of Bonekeep

Pathfinder Society

4/5

How many parts of this series are there going to be?

Thus far (to the best of my knowledge
Ruins of Bonekeep 1 released 2013 3-7
Ruins of Bonekeep 2 released 2013 3-7
Ruins of Bonekeep 3 announced 5-9
Ruins of Bonekeep 4 announced 5-9

I'd like to play the entire series on the same character, so I'm wondering how many more are planned and what levels they would be.

I believe it's just 4 parts.

Scarab Sages 1/5

Thematically there should be 7 or 8 levels. One for each school of magic.

They aren't based on schools of magic...at all.

Scarab Sages 1/5

Then the plot is even more obtuse and invisible to players than average.

*Thinks about it for a bit*

Nope, the micro-plot (or plot for an individual scenario) for Bonekeep is fairly transparent. The macro-plot is unfolding more with each part, and revealing the plot in pieces is what I'd prefer.

Very brief summary of The Ruins of Bonekeep 1 that probably spoils little:
Hey, that rival wizard of ours went into these ruins--an old siege fortress--and found something. Go in and check it out.

PCs have several encounters that involve <redacted>. They also find a <redacted>, which is pretty cool. They scratch their heads a bit and wonder at the larger story before dragging out any survivors.

Very brief summary of The Ruins of Bonekeep 2 that spoils slightly more:
The PCs discover they had an incident earlier while exploring, and after receiving treatment, they are to return to find a cure/closure.

The PCs encounter more of <redacted>, leading some to posit that there might be a greater connection. They also find another <redacted>, which suggests further connections. Many groups perish before uncovering the entire plot.

If, however, this is not to your satisfaction and is instead indicative of further failure to meet your standards of plot transparency, I invite you to start another thread to discuss the degree to which scenarios allow players to understand both the micro- and macro-plotlines--an area I have consciously endeavored to improve since I started working for Paizo. Otherwise, I fear your negative remark may not have had the effect that you had hoped for.

Kindest regards,
John

Having played and ran both I thought the plot was obviously being obscured as we learned more about the dungeon. Like any good operatic song cycle, the major plotline is rarely fully revealed in the second act.

Bonekeep games are my absolute favorite PFS games (though Waking Rune is up there too. And The Elven Entanglement almost got me killed). I hadn't heard that 3 and 4 will be 5-9, that's awesome. I know a lot of players who are going to be very happy about that.

Spoiler:
Isn't the plot of bonekeep that some ratfolk found the basement of some powerful necromancer who was going to overrun Absalom with undead, before he was defeated?

And wasn't it spelled out in like, the first adventure? To the GM, if not the party.

When part 3 & 4 is plan ?

For what special event, you think you going to release this event ?

I hope the remaining parts are better than level 1 is.
I ran through The Silent Grave last night as a player and all I can say is... BORING. Unless one likes to make Fort saves every round vs Disease while fighting the spawn.
I don't know who wrote this but you gotta believe Paizo is paying them too much! Should have been named "Ruins of Bonehead", or "How many Fort saves can you make in a night"

I'll never buy this scenario, nor GM it when available, and I certainly will never smoke a GM Star to play it again.

And NO, my character did NOT die, although 3 others did.

Sorry if I seem blunt, but this is my honest opinion.

Any update on bonekeep 3 and 4?

Grand Lodge 5/5

part 3 was released last Gencon. In the box text, it mentioned it being the last one, so it seems there wont be a Part 4.

I think people expect you to have cool plans for major conventions. I.... think...

Maybe some other ruins of an old siege fortress?!

Shadow Lodge 4/5

We've been to 4 already, I think(Pyramid of the Doge, citadel of Azid, Red Redoubt of Karamoss and Bonekeep). Maybe something else?

Fallen Fortress is another one...

Shadow Lodge 4/5

Knew I forgot one!

Personally, I'd like something in the Precipice Quarter.

Could you remind me when we've been to the other 3?

Pyramid of the Dog is in Silent Tide
Red Redoubt is in 6-01, Trial by Machine
Citadel of Azid doesn't ring a bell

Having just played level 3 this past Sunday, I can back John up on the fact that the story of Bonekeep is fairly obvious to those who can survive to see it. ;)

And to those who don't survive it, you may now officially refer to it as Bonedkeep.

Bonekeep 2s story ib by far my favorite. Its opening is amazing.

Yes!

And I just wanted to gloat over the fact that we ARE getting a new scenario set in the Precipice Quarter. And serpentfolk, but that's not quite so gloatsome.
