Then the fun will begin for folks who love hunting for arbitrage opportunities. I hope we'll see the green-eyeshade wonks behind the scenes giving orders to well-armed travel teams about where the best buy-and-sell opportunities are now.
The experts running those teams will judge where to move goods, how quickly, and how well-protected. Sound like lots of lovely human interaction, encompassing a variety of skill-sets, interests, and play-styles.
This sounds awesome!

Your spy reveals the Pax settlement is selling Long Swords for 15 gold. You cut your price down to 12 gold with a limited time special of 10 gold each if bought in packs of 10.
Travelling merchants learn of the deal and come in droves to buy a lot of Long Swords to sell for a profit in Pax settlement. :P

Or alternatively you set up a buy order in callambea for 100 longswords at 15 gold each, minimum quantity bought in one go 20. Then put up a sale of longswords in a nearby settlement for 12 gold each quantity 100.
While 12 gold is expensive there is an easy profit to make just shipping them straight to Callambea and filling the buy order thinks the independent merchant.
Of course as soon as he buys the 100 for shipment and the informer in that settlement tells you the sale has gone through you cancel the buy order and pocket a nice profit from the sale of 100 overpriced longswords
Not that I am suggesting unscrupulous merchants might do such a thing......

...unscrupulous merchants...
All the more reason for import/export brokers, bankers, arbitrage specialists, venture capitalists, and others to arise, offering price-insurance, arbitrage-insurance, contract completion bonds, and many other services translated directly from the real world. We already have Venture Companies with charters needing decimal points in their rules, so it's easy to see how things like this won't take too long to arrive in-game.
Stock market, bond market, central bank...I'm tempted to put "LOL", but we all know people who'll try these, on both sides of the transaction.

Options.
We need to be able to "buy" the "option" to sell Pax 100 longswords at 15 gold each before we actually buy them from the nearby Settlement at 12 gold each. (Or better yet, buy both options as a single transaction)
The option would need to have a time limit, and a penalty cost for failing to fulfill it up to the total amount of the option itself.
